A lot of new moves to be learned in this game.

CueTable Help

I didn't want to diagram the 14 moving too far towards my pocket (obv to my advantage). I'm not sure it would move this little, you go ahead and put it where you think it would go if I shot this.

2 inches too short, and he is banking the 14 out of there (possibly 2 rails into stack) and leaving you behind the rack. If you play to make sure you don't come up short, you risk going too far and selling out the 9. Even if you don't sell out the 9, he probably has the window to kick softly (taking a scratch) between the 9 and 7 to get as close as possible to the back of the 14..

If you DID hit the 14 closer to your pocket and come a little long, he can even two rail kick it directly towards the 10 ball, with the CB heading towards the backside of the stack.

The only good result of this shot is if it lands directly in the 3-4 inch wide window you have diagrammed. I think a better shot is to just take a scratch, kick softly, putting the CB in the same spot as you diagrammed, without moving the 14. It's easier, it's safer, and the results are pretty much in the bag.

The 14 is in a perfect spot right now. (Other than being closer to your hole..) It blocks the bank on the 12, and is somewhat equidistant from either rail, limiting the moves your opponent can make on that side of the table. If you move it closer to the top rail, your opponent can now leave you anywhere up to about 18 inches off your side rail, and he will still be safe.

You move it from where it is and don't put it REALLY close to your hole, and he has many more options.

Had a rare oppertunity to stop by the pool hall this morning before running some erands, so I printed up the cuetable layout and set this up and shot it a few times.
I'm confident in sticking the cue to the 9.
The 12 does a few things, including making the 14, and running into the 14 (still leaving both balls very close to the hole), but mostly I was slightly nudging the 14, or not hitting it at all, and leaving the 12 very close to the hole.

Efren don't have to like it from here!!

I hit this to just move the 12 to the rail.I don't think I would scratch if I hit it right.Your shot was pretty difficult.Freezing whitey to the 9 is tough.

You could've moved the CB, my goal was to stick behind the 9, I agree that it would be difficult to stick to a certain side, and I'm not capable of consistantly sticking behind either side of a ball, but I know I can leave you really close up to that 9 almost every time I shoot that shot.

You decide where all the balls end up. CueBall too. (obv I'm hitting this hard enough that the balls will run into the 14/12)
