back hand english

Ive used it as long as ive been playing. That and the slip stroke. No one ever taught it to me either. Some people just do those naturally. In fact sometimes I wish i did neither, cause it can wreak havoc on your consistency, doing all that crap at once. But like they say "different strokes for different folks"

somebody knows

In case you thought there would be an answer to this question, and are frustrated by the sarcastic replies you have seen so far, let me disabuse you of your mistaken notions:

Nobody knows. Some people speculate, and there is a LOT of mythical "information" where this guy who plays in my pool hall said he heard from his uncle that Efren Reyes taught him how he applies english, and he totally aims and pivots!!!

But nobody knows.

-Andrew

Not true! The Pinos know. This is what Efren personally told me:

Ano ang ibig sabihin sa iyo, sa likod kamay magsulid? Sigurado ka baliw? Ikaw pindutin lamang ang bola at sila pumunta ka namin Pinos ay hindi kailangan hindi mabaho sampal na paaldabis ingles.

So there.:woot:

what % of pros use back hand english. as dr dave calls it

My apologies to anyone who takes offense, but please in the future, give credit to Hal Houle as calling it Backhand English. Without Hal Houle using the term, none of us would be calling it that.

Fred <~~~ sees that Dr. Dave addressed the name

I watched the video where Buddy Hall teaches tuck and roll and he would say, "WE" a lot which made me think all the pros were using bhe. Then I saw a Burt Kinister video where he was more excited about BHE than anyone. "Make the cueball do a trick." He said that everything he had ever said before was wrong. BHE was his greatest discovery.

Then I take a lesson from Paul Portier and he tells me BHE is the devil. Then I take a lesson from Johnny Archer and regarding BHE he says with gusto, "I'm TOTALLY against it!"

I see validity from both camps and now I just use BHE a lot less than I used to but still use it.

And you know what? I love using both techniques.

Did Jim Meador ever talk about BHE? Can't remember.

I used to read his stuff when I first went online, just after he had passed.

My memory fails me a lot, but I don't recall Jim Meador ever discussing backhand english. I want to say that Jim passed away before Hal Houle joined the internet. And there is absolutely no doubt that Hal Houle brought the term to the internet.

I guess you gotta do what works best for you. Massey and Max eberle swear by elbow drop but im sure we could find a pro who says its the devil. The key is to practice whatever ur doing so that ur consistent.
