Back stroke and follow through?

The arc in golf is different than the linear pool stroke.

In a normal shot the backstroke should be about an inch shorter than your bridge distance. Once we strike the cue ball the follow through should be your natural distance.

This is a very interesting thread.....
Thank you Randy G for the reply.

A few years back,I had an A-speed whom I highly regarded tell me my follow through was short. I found myself extending my backstroke in order to extend my follow-through. I missed quite often, and abandoned the effort.
Reading this thread; I found myself in agreement with Straightpool_99, & PJ . The follow through should be the result of the correct backstroke and as such nary an afterthought.

Thanks to everybody who replied. Especially Randy G. I'll confess that I've thought of follow through, but not about the backstroke. Now I'll probably think about it...and perhaps miss more often????

The simple truth is that we don't "hit the ball and followthrough". What we do is FINISH your swing. If you finish your swing, you get followthrough. How much? However much your body style dictates. Randyg is 5.5 inches of finish past the contact point of the CB...mine is 6.5". This is when the cradle hand finishes against my chest. This is a measurable thing that is constant, with a few exceptions. Everyone has a shooting template...most players don't know how to measure it. let alone know how to use it to teach themselves to play better.

Shouldn't the backstroke be a good pulling motion?
The final forward stroke a good throwing motion?

Didn't read the entire thread, but I like that analogy.

Edit... I'd like to add, these are very very subtle touch sensations with a slight further loosening of the grip on follow through. At least for me. :)

how exactly do yáll go about measuring your 5.5" and 6.5"? does Randy feel inadequate since his partner is a whole inch bigger? (cause 1 inch, can make all the difference in the world!)

I would also like a clearer explanation for what it means to finish on your chest.

Just watch The World Cup of pool and you will have your answer.

You will see players with a 12 inch bridge pulling back 2 inches and delivering. You will see different bridge lengths and many different pulls from each player.
Few players pull back close to the bridge hand, otherwise it’s a mid or short stroke technique.
Watch the Filipinos and many others, they have a 15 inch bridge, pull back 3 inches, and deliver very smooth.

These are Champions and top level players using these techniques. Watch and learn how to short stroke and deliver with ease, they all do it, and even Shane is getting better at it.
They are not using a formula or measurements.
To pull back a measured length or even entertain the idea according to the bridge is ridiculous. It's either a short, mid or a full pull on the swing arm.

Learn about your Ape Index and use it to your advantage, you can thank me later.
Learn how to strike natural, like a player, not a robot, would you like more starch on your stroke?
Learn how your body works, feel it.
Learn how to apply your skill to the conditions presented.
Athletes in any sport "Make It Look So Easy", I wonder why.

The follow through is more important for the beginning of the stroke.
Be a complete player

Finishing to your peck muscle could create two major things.
By connecting two points (bridge & peck) we move in a straight line.
By connecting two points we just about assure ourselves of a full stroke.

Ha, pool is full of so many easy-to-make double entendres that you must become immune to them over time.

Randy's obviously being a true professional.

Scott, on the other hand, may beat my ass the next time he sees me. good thing my cue is bigger than his.
