Back to Bataan

Played some more pool yesterday. One bar had a very nice Brunswick Metro table and the best player was a girl (actually a 39 year old woman). You will occasionally meet girls in these bars who can play a little, They get down on the ball good and can make most shots. Best of all they don't play nervous, scared to shoot. I would call them decent amateur level players. I must have played this girl five games, she was determined to beat me. I liked her spunkiness. I'm starting to get in stroke....finally. I know one thing, I would play a lot more if I lived here.

Played a little pool yesterday in a bar here in Angeles City. I had to get out of Manila, the air is so polluted I get sick after a few days there.

ALL the bars have 9' tables. You can't find a bar table in the Philippines! I have to get used to my cue again. I couldn't make a ball in the ocean. Fortunately we were only playing to keep the table with no money on the line. My reputation exceeds me in Angeles. They think I'm a pro, ha ha.

Then I went to the poker room and blew 6000p (about $150). That was in the "big" game here. After I got my money in with A,K only to lose to A,J I knew it wasn't my night. Time to quit!

There is no place on Earth like Angeles City (okay maybe in Thailand). The former site of Clark AFB and the home of thousands of ex-pats and Aussies. The streets are lined with bars (almost all have a pool table and a team), with pretty girls out front beckoning you inside. Not really my cup of tea since I don't drink, but I can look anyway. :D

Was wondering what the old Clark Air Base is used for now?

Well not exactly, but I am back in the Philippines.
That's enough for now. I'll be back later.

You sure he is not Efren...kidding! they all look a like to us, have you ran into someone you thought you played but turns out that he is not?

I spent several months in Subic Bay back during Vietnam, all I can say it was UNBELIEVABLE. If you weren't there you would not understand the bar culture.

Enjoying the trip vicariously through you, Jay, so by posting this my email gets a notification when anything else is added.

Great

Great stories I love hearing about the travels. One day I'm typing to make this trip. Hey jay when you get back tell manny Douglas was asking about him.

Clark is now the property of the Philippines, since the mid 90's. They have made it into a commercial air field, and run domestic flights out of there. I'm pretty sure you can also fly to places like Taiwan, Thailand, Japan and Hong Kong, but I've never flown from there yet. Maybe this time, who knows.

A Spam sammy. Man, you guys live large.

Just teasin ya. I make Spam hot dogs. The kids love em and I still do.

Chop up the Spam in the smallest cubes you can. Mix a ton of Cheez Whiz
in with it in a bowl.

Dice onions and mix in.

Spread in hot dog buns, wrap in tin foil and put in the oven until warm.

Sorry, forgot this wasn't the Cooking Channel.

Got me going on food watching the video.

Think I'll pass on the Halo tho.

lol. most filipinos find spam expensive. good thing there's a chinese version of it which is just 1/3 of its price.

your recipe makes me hungry. will give a try one of these days. about the halo-halo, it literally means mix-mix that's why you should mix it all in the glass before eating. it will make your blood glucose shoot up, so its not recommended for diabetics.

We get a product here in Canada. From Brazil. Called Hereford Corned beef.

Back as far as WW ll, it used to be a staple for the soldiers. They called it Bully Beef, cause it had a picture of a Hereford bull on the label, still does.

It is cheap, usually get mine at the Dollar Store for a buck 25 for a big can.

Much better than Spam. Makes great sammys or you slice it and fry it in a pan and have with eggs for breakfast.

If you can find it, try some.

That is... scary.

I do enjoy the Spam, at one time I was making it with eggs just like ham, kids did not mind it at all (got 4 of them), but the wife had that "eww, you want me to eat that?? look about her. It's odd that for a product that is almost universally made fun off, they still manage to sell a ton of it.

SPAM is the acronym for Some Poor Animals Meat:thumbup:

I am thinking it's no more "mixed" than hotdogs LOL.

BTW, I'm a bit upset you left Vegas, son has a spot in the Jr Nationals there this year and your house looked like it had an extra room or two for visitors hehe :grin-square::wink:
