Well I am back to work and working on some ideas. I am seriously considering not doing the PPV at all this time and just putting it on the net for all pool fans to enjoy. The problem is can I get enough sponsorship $$ in the door to cover all the costs that are part of an event like this.

The other side of this is since it take a lot of time and energy I would like to make a little money myself (Oh no did I just say I want to make money???)

Air Art 1 will still be involved and co produce the event as they are a invaluable piece of the puzzle on the ground in Lincoln if thats where we end up again.

I am looking at Friday May 27th and 28th and that is Memorial day weekend so I an a little unsure as to how many people actually go out of town at that time. I already have a agreement with Archer and Appleton so that part is good.

If anyone has any ideas as to how I could do this for free please let me know. If not I will have to go back to the PPV angle.

I'm just looking at different ways to make the Legends and Champions "Bad Blood" matches better for all. The last one was a learning experience.

I look forward to your ideas if there are any.

I have no ideas to help you, Mark. But wow, if you can pull that off and make it work (and make you some money too!) it will be fantastic.

There's an awful lot of talk about whats wrong with pool. You sir, are one thing that is right with pool!
 
I'd give tvmike another chance since it sounded like he lost his shirt on the last match too. Don't know anything about streaming but maybe don't use Ustream this time if they can't guarantee service.

Are they playing the same format as Earl/Johnny Mark?

Yes it would be the same format. The length of the 8-ball and 10-ball races may go up to 20 instead of 15 but not 100% on that.

Yes, McCready vs. Jimmy Mataya gets my vote and if you mic both of them it would make it spectacular.

I say stream the event for free but make the whole thing available for download ASAP for a cost. If you stream for free, no one can b1tch if there are technical issues with the stream.

I refrain from buying any live streams because I'm always busy doing other things and don't want to be tied down to my computer for extended periods of time. I would like to see some of these matches and they do become available on DVD EVENTUALLY but that process is slow. The discussions on the match always die down within a few days on the forum so waiting a couple of weeks for a DVD kills interest.

I would be willing to shell out $10 to $15 to download the vids for some of these matches. It should be possible for you get the videos posted online in electronic media format within 24 to 48 hours so people can download it. You wouldn't have to worry about producing the DVDs and getting them shipped out and all of that headache. Just set up the download site and let it rip. You could even tier the pricing to the quality of the vid (to save on bandwidth costs).
 
Earl vs anyone--He is the reining champion of this format. Earl is the draw and he deserves it with the come from behind win.

Make it PPV, you deserve to make money. End of subject.

Who would not want to watch and hear Earl and Alex?
 
It sure seems to me that it shouldn't be all that hard to find sponsors to finance a event like this.
The best players in the world wanting to play. And someone willing to put it all together.
A couple of things come to mind. How to get the word out to people,,the advertising of a free stream . I think if more people knew about things like this ,,you would have 1000s of viewers,,which gets the sponsors more interested. And maybe its time to run a few,"commercials " during the stream. Brings more interest for sponsors. Find a way for these sponsors to get some coverage.
Have to get these events advertised on the TV. But there is a cost there too.
I also think there are dedicated viewers that would donate for a match like this,,but you can't count on that for a big payout,, all though it could be. There is no way of knowing what that would bring.
Getting a large number of viewers is the key,,I see the catch. Can't get started without a sponsor.
Seems this whole thing is in its infancy. If you could find a sponsor willing to take a chance now,,,, giving them the main spot as it grows for future events and in the hope that it could get huge.
Drawing up a plan of events for the next year ahead (or some type of schedule) showing in detail what the hopes are. Thinking it may grow as it goes and the word gets out. Could bring in some sponsors also.
I'm sure your way ahead of me,,,its a great idea you have. There has got to be a way.

Right now its impossible for me to work with Earl due to him management agreement. The agreement is crazy on the financial side of it and will for sure end up to where I lose money. Its not Earls fault either. Just FYI. Otherwise I would love to work with Earl as I have for the past 4 or 5 years.
 
It should only take one sponsor to produce. More would be the gravy.
If you could get Bud or Coors or some large corp. to sponsor, then that should pay for itself.
You might also think about lowering the price point. This way even some of the guys who wont go for $25.00 will pay for it which i assume would give you a wider audience. How about having other poolrooms streaming it in to their rooms for a fee.
You might also want to get an impartial commentator.
Whatever you do G.L. with it.

That is a very good idea. Digital media downloads are becoming quite popular these days and it also eliminates the cost and time of producing the DVD for mail out. This way you could also offer a percentage of the royalties on the downloads to both players. :thumbup2:
 
Do a PPV but DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT use ustream as you PPV provider.
Talk to Justin and find out who he uses for his PPV's.

Sounds easy doesn't it.
Some people have no clue what it takes to do an event like this.
When the beer companies come calling let me know and we can do commentary for the rest of our lives.
 
Obviously it is not easy. What i was trying to point out is with a major sponsor behind you, it would allow you to sell it to other sponsors. Then PPV wouldn't matter.
There is an audience for pool, tapping into that is the difficult thing.
If Bud will pay millions for a 30 second shot in a football game. I don't know why they couldn't sponsor a pool match.
It would have to be presented with facts and numbers behind it so they can see a profit. Money talks and BS walks.

What about Muellers Sporting Goods here in Lincoln. Wouldn't they be interested in sponsoring this type of event in support of the billiards industry?
 
Budweiser already had a sponsorship for Bad Blood 1. Obviously not to level of what would be necessary to do what's been suggested in this thread, but the good news is that they are interested in pool. At least somewhat.

This is where we differ Bob. I don't think there is an audience there for pool. If there is one, it isn't in the country. As for Bud sponsoring a pool match, when's the last time you saw them pay for advertising at anything that had under a few million viewers? They spend millions for a 30 second spot during a football game because there are 12 million people watching that game. Now i'm not sure of TAR's exact numbers, but I think they were just under 12 million viewers. Its been proven to them for decades that paying for those spots are worth it. Pool players haven't exactly shown the same results considering $25 for 2 or 3 days of pool seems to be considered a little too high for a lot of them. As an company owner, why would you throw major sponsorship to a target market like that?
