Balukas High Run 34?

I don't know the date of that video...Freddie??

But she was inducted into the HOF in 1985 at the age of 25 and that was about the time that she transitioned to 9 Ball for the WPBA tour.

I know Jean and know some of her closest friends who have told me that she has run 100+ LOTS of times.

Hey John, I'm a big fan. I was thinking 34? What the heck, I even went back in the video and listened and I could swear he said 34. 134 is more like it. Nothing compared to Mr. 400 though.

On a personal note, thanks for inspiring myself and everyone on this forum. I've been playing great lately, snapped off 1st in 5 of the last 7 local tournaments I've played in. I certainly have to give some credit to AZ forums for the knowledge I've gained. Buying the 9' a couple of years ago hasn't hurt either.

Basically, without kissing too much ass, I'm saying thank you for posting here, we love having the best of the best being part of this online community.

Lori Jon and Ewa broke it concurrently during a tournament.
They both ran over 134 during the same session.

Easy Joey easy. Both their high runs were made during the U.S. Open 14.1 in Chicago in 1989. I think they were around 50 to 60 balls, somewhere in that neighborhood (maybe Ewa ran 54 and Lori Jon came back with a 62). These may still be the two highest runs by women in tournament play. No woman to my knowledge ever ran over 100 balls in tournament play.

Jean Balukas definitely ran over 100 balls several times in exhibitions etc. Whether she had any runs over 60 balls in tournaments with men I do not know. I do know she beat several good men players in 14.1 events.

Jasmin Ouschan ran 75 and out in the semifinal of the European Championship last year, race to 75.

In the final she ran 76 and out on her second inning, after she scratched on her opening shot. (Her opponent ran 30+ on her first inning).

Guess Jasmin then has the highest runs in tournament play, for women.

Didn't she run 85 during World Championship in 2006 also?

EDIT: She did, in the groupstage. This is what she wrote on her website:

"My strategy worked out and I run 85 balls in the first inning. I managed to finish the match in the second inning with a score of 100:3."

And she continued to beat John Schmidt in the next match ;)

"I already had 4 victories and still one more match to play. Deska had also 4 victories so I had to make at least 60 balls in my last match to qualify. That sounded easier than it actually was. I played “ Mr. 400 balls “ John Schmidt. I was very focused and made good use of my opportunities. I played good pool and I run out with a serie of 56 balls. With this last victory over Schmidt I was qualified for the final round behind Hohmann, Hopkins and Schmidt."

Right Jay,

I've read MANY press accounts of the tournaments Jean competed in and in MANY cases, there were average runs of 15-20 balls in the whole match.

Granted, many of those were while she was still a teenager. But I've never seen any report that she ran anywhere near 100 in a tournament.

But as I noted above, the WPBA was founded when Jean was only around 20 years old. I can't recall what age she was when she first started the tour but REALLY young at which time she was concentrating on 9 Ball.

STILL she finished 22nd and ahead of over 40 men in a top 14.1 event and I think finished T9 or 10 on another.

She then essentially "retired" from competition at only about 30 years of age. CERTAINLY she had not peaked at that age and we will never know how much longer she would have dominated the women's side and continued to beat a LOT of men from time to time.

She was/is an awesome athlete and a sweetheart of a lady every time I've hung out with her.

Too bad she doesn't gamble. She could have woofed some bets on this forum and had guys stacking it up at 50-1...maybe 100-1.

These are probably the high runs ever by a woman in competition.

You're talking the high run for women's tournament play at the time; not the "all-time women's high run". Loree Jon broke it with a number that I can't recall, and Ewa broke that during the same tournament with a 68.

I want to say that Loree Jon won the tournament that year.
 
If we're talking about high runs, the highest I have seen belongs to Jennifer Chen (158).

Jeanette Lee's high run is 152.

Jean Balukas' high run is 134.

Ruth McGiniss' high run is 126.

Jasmin Ouschan's high run is 120.

Line Kj?rsvik's high run is 116.

It was 1992 at the US Open in NY. Loree ran a 64 for the record womens run in a tourney and 20 minutes later Ewa ran a 68 to break it playing Cathy Vanover. I was there to see it and it was a thrill to see the excitement for the ladies in 14.1.
 
Whoever uses Jean Balukas and "sucks" in the same sentence again, I'm gonna ride like I'm on the back of "Big Brown." Disregarding all of the top pros, she could and maybe still, beat most all.

There's a bit of confusion here. Jean had the high run in the BCA US Open 14.1. Both Ewa and Loree Jon broke that record during the same US Open tournament. The runs were in the 60's. {edit: I see everyone's already answered this one}

Jean's high run in the BCA 14.1 Open was pretty low prior to Ewa and Loree Jon. They were only racing to 100 or even less than that, so big high runs were less likely to happen. Jean's high run is in the 100's for sure.
