Bank Instructions.Dvd or Book??

Hey there,I thought that's where everybody did their reading.hehehhehe
Your right,I only get to watch dvds when my family Is at school and or work. They don't seem to like watching pool dvds as much as I do.lol

Ok,so...Which Is It..DVD or book. Thank you Baxter.John B.

A dvd would be great, also commentary from some of your bank matches, love to get in your head and find out why and how you shot the shot you did.

Hey there,Cookie man. Ya know,I have thought about that too!! If I could somehow go back over the dvds I have from real matches like at the DCC
And talk about (what) I was thinking and (why) I was shooting the shots that I did...I think that would be a very strong way to get alot of the message across to people. Hmmmm. very interesting. And the BEST thing about all that Is, the DVDS are already made.hehehehe Thank you sir.John B.

Where do I send my money?

Hey John,

I don't know if it is feasible or even a direction you want to explore but if you do a spiral booklet with numerous bank scenarios you could also do an accompanying DVD that references the shots page by page and allows you to demonstrate the speed and spin necessary to make the shot.

A pirated DVD without the pamphlet would have less appeal than if the entire instruction was on DVD media...JMO

Hey Ktown! That's a great Idea.Your pretty sharp....for a pool player
hahahah!!! Oh, one more thing...It's Johnny's got his beer goggles on.
hehehehe.Man, your too funny!! John B.

if you do a book or any printed media, put your thoughts in it as far as what goes through your head when you shoot certain banks or play through certain scenerarios and table layouts...anybody can do a book on the fundamentals and basic strategy i dont know about others but i wanna read your true thoughts and feelings on the game and how YOU do it even if in some cases that may not be how the majority does it... in a nutshell make it personal and not just another instructional how to...

Thank you thank you! That's what would take alot of explaining, and alot of talking. And I mean ALOT.
It's one thing to show somebody how to make a bank,But It's a whole nother story or (book) on how to play BANK POOL.Sounds like you want to learn how to play bankpool and not just how to bank a ball In.I like that!!

Thank you again for your great insights there bud. I love em!! John B.

Bank Instructions

First let me say I have been a big fan of yours since I watched you and George Breedlove slug it out here in Columbus in a bar tournament many many years ago.
I'm happy for all of your success and wish you the best with your book or DVD.
I like the idea of a head cam so the viewer can see the view you see and talk to us about your thoughts while going through your shot routine.
Also then switch to the full table so we can watch the stroke applied and get an idea of speed .
Also I would like your perspective of how you alter your game to play on Diamond tables vs Brunswick 1 2 s and 3s.{I never played on 4s or 5s so I can't say about them.

Maybe a good idea would be a DVD with shot cards that show the position of the balls and a cueball with the spot to hit and a speed graph.
I'm looking forward to seeing you play at the DCC good luck.

Hello Sir. Thank you for the compliments.Appreciate them very much! .Me and that George B. have had some real battles over the years!

You really have gave me somemore great Ideas for the dvd. Real good ones!! I really do have a good Idea about the "veiw" from my eyes. I'm hoping to put a test run out on you tube, just to get some feedback. When I get It on there I'll let everyone here no about It,so they can watch It.

Seems to me,there Is some wants and needs to put one together just for showing and telling how to adjust and or how to tell If,say the table banks long or short or somewhere in between.I have had quite a few requests just for that. That might take a dvd right there.Good Idea.

Good Idea about the cueball with a dot showing where you need to hit the cball to make the shot and or to get the cball where It needs to be.

Seems very Important That I come up with a GOOD speed scale. It will have to have more numbers on It than any I have seen so far.
because there are so many different speeds that you need for good banking. Man,Thanks once again for the great advice!! John B.

John,

First, good luck at the Derby City this year. Three times in a row will be an amazing accomplishment. I think that DVDs, if done right, proide the best instruction and I will get in line for mine. I agree that adding some commentary as to your thought process when addressing a shot would be wonderful. There have been serveral good ideas for cameras and viewing angles but any easy one to put together would be a picture in picture setup. I have several car racing DVDs that show the track coming at you and in the lower corner is a smaller picture of the driver and his motions. You could show the cue ball with cue tip position in the lower corner and the shot itself would be the main part of the video. I have several DVDs and when I set each shot up just like in the video, I can always make it, but when the OB is on the rail or the middle of the table, it's a whole different story. I will be looking forward to buying your DVD. Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge and experience.

Hey John,
I excited to hear about this project. Whatever form it takes I will be making the purchase.

Any chance you would be able to talk about the differences between short rack and full rack. Yes I know one is played to 5 and the other to 8! I was looking for more of the strategy you use. I feel like short rack is more of a run out game, whereas full rack is more about moving and coming up with craft banks.

Also can you please go over some end game scenarios. Maybe what your thoughts are when there is one ball left and it can’t be banked and/or making it and spotting it up.

Thanks Bill.

P.S. I have never seen you play full rack banks. Which break do you use?

Hello Bill,First I just want to thank everyone for their time to give me alot of good tips, advice and thoughts! I appreciate them a bunch!! With all the good Ideas I think I will do both. Some kind of book to go along with the dvds. Due to there being a huge difference in making a bank shot vs playing bankpool. Playing the game of bankpool might be better put In writing because there will have to be alot of explaning, theories, and methods. For example: End game scenarios.I think I can put that Info down In writing.Would you rather read or watch and listen? I sure didn't think this would be that hard, but when I do It or them I want it to be the best I can.

Ok Bill,I'll try to answer some of your ?s now. You have some good ?s by the way. IMHO short rack banks Is not really what I would call bankpool.
Short rack Is just mainly a shoot out. There Is not alot of moving and safeties. There Is some but nothing like full rack. In full rack you have more
chances to invent banks, moves, and safes. That's what I really like about full rack.(Alot more thinking) and inventing and the knowledge that comes from playing some of the best bankpool players In the world Is worth alot more to me In full rack. That's one reason I prefer bankpool over say 9ball.
Knowledge Is HUGE In bankpool. Not so much In 9ball or 10 ball. You can leaarn how to play 9 ball almost over night...and they can luck out on ya.I hate the fact that I have to just break wide open and HOPE I get a shot!!!.But not with bankpool. As you can tell, I'm not a huge fan of 9ball or 10ball. Ok to my full rack bankpool break..I use the straight pool break to where you put the cball about 12in.
from the side rail and shoot the cball to hit the corner ball and spin the cball 3 rails and back to the end rail. If hit just right the 2 corner balls will go right back In the rack and the cball will be froze or close to the bottom rail.leaving your opp no shot.He wiil just have to play safe, and that's where the fun begins. Not much luck In bankpool. Thanks again everybody.
John B.

Hey John

Hey, Ya know.. I have an Idea just for that.

Stay tuned...Thank you! John B.

The helmet cam is definitely a great way to go for part of the aiming. Maybe part of it from above. And personally, I would pay a little extra for a dvd, and maybe a short book.. And a discount if you buy both as a set. I think you'll be surprised how many sets you sell, if you make it a good price discount.

What would John Brumback do?

Which would you rather learn from? I need some Ideas, and I thought I
might be able to get some good ones, here on AZB.

I would appreciate your thoughts and or Ideas.

I know that "hands on" Is the best, but I would like to put something together on video or text. Maybe video taping me and doing commentary afterward...Thank You, John B.

Getting different camera angles, especially from the height and position that a player would most likely see the shot from would be handy.

But the biggest benefit to the video of banking is: What would John Brumback do? Perhaps, even an inquisitive banger like myself posing questions about the shot with you answering those questions; would be advantageous to the video purchaser.

I think that different people see and wonder about different things. It's important to provide enough of the wanted or needed information in a manner that the majority of people will "get it" as soon as it is explained to them. (Lots of different ways to say the same things but sometimes when it is answered a particular way, it hits home just a wee bit better.

You can use that title John. I won't ask for royalties. :D :D

Many times in life, irony rules. There is a fella named David Hobby. What he did what put up info on how to do off camera lighting on a blog for FREE. The info was so good, now he's a millionaire I'd say. I truly don't think he would have had this success if he produced a DVD from the beginning, I think he'd say so himself. Strobist.com if you wanna check it out. I think this is a great business model myself. Plus you'd have the added advantage of both text AND video, and could update the site based on viewer feedback.

If you put info on a blog like this, AND did a good job, and made people want to come back every week or month to read... the sky would be the limit.

You need to teach someone to bank on video.. So we can put our selves in there position... I have seen a few where the teacher teaches someone on video. Get someone that is an average player like me.. Would be a good idea.. Because average players are at the correct stage to buy a DVD about banking the right way..... Good luck and let me know when you need me to be on that DVD.....

Ohh yea do it in blu-ray... Would be the first....
