The US Open was a success this year because of GREAT players. It was a success despite the promoter not because of him. Were professional pool where it should be, given the incredible talent of the players, Barry wouldn't get to promote a freaking APA City Cup event.

This is what Fatboy does sometimes. He may know something behind the scenes and then posts a snippet of what he knows, letting the imagination of the readers of this forum run rampant. That's not a good thing on AzBilliards to let the readers' imaginations go wild. :grin-square:
I kind of knew that the payouts were problematic when Accu-Stats left the microphone turned on before a semifinals match. Ken Shuman was speaking with Danndy DiLiberto and Jim Wych stating he had to chase Barry Behrman over the hotel, following him, asking to be paid, watching him eat chicken while Ken stood there waiting patiently to receive his funds. Barry was, according to Ken, giving him the stall. He stated that at this time Barry shorted him $200, but he did not care because he was happy that he got CASH instead of a check. :embarrassed2:
From past Open experiences, I know that sometimes they use the monies collected at the gate from spectators to pay out the players as they go, which may have been the reason for the stall.
That said, if $50,000 was indeed in escrow with DGWalsh, then this portion of the payouts was safe, but these monies, I'm thinking are designated for players only and not tournament staff. DGWalsh came on this forum and said the money was good and in escrow and paid out. Johnny Archer confirmed it.
Now, if there is smoething else that occurred, other than what Johnny Archer stated, it should be thrown out here in the mix. Otherwise, it makes Johnny appear to have posted an untruth, and I know nobody wants to believe that.
So the door to the scuttlebutt, if I may call it that, has been opened. Let's hear the rest before readers' imaginations once again run rampant with all kinds of theories as to what happened. :embarrassed2:
The first thing is to get a TV contract instead of relying on streaming video to pull people into playing the game. AtLarge figured up the losses for the US OPEN to the players and it was enough to put pool on TV regionally for several months.
Develop professional pool characters and personalities using professional producers/directors. They could be involved in commercials and ad campaigns and especially charity functions. We used to do charity events at nearly ALL professional events....and now there's how many???
Advertise the game on ESPN with commercials produced by the BCA. Hire a PR Firm to get press releases to all major media groups in radio, TV, print, etc. - this needs to be part of the trade organization's budget if available....if not create a fund asap.
Stop talking negatively and work together as an industry until the end of the year to see how it feels to develop teamwork and synergy. (hey, it's an idea, and prob. a miracle)

What monies are these exactly? I don't know how the money can or could be shared unless the players themselves agree to do this. Is this what you mean?

I am very interested in your answers as you come across as someone who really cares about the future of the game. Further more I do believe that forums can be constructive tools for development and growth rather than some of the general imploded negativity. Although I have no personal knowledge with regard to this, we must have went to the same school because my "nose" is telling me that the headline "for public consumption" story doesn't pass the "sniff test".

It should not be viewed as an accomplishment when someone lives up to their obligations/promises.
I do not know how good he is as a promoter but the US Open would be served if he stayed in the background. He is a terrible communicator with the microphone and a real turn off.

From what people say, JA is a good guy normally. It sucks that ABP tries to spoon-feed this crap to the public. I think this whole thing is a real turn-off, from BB screwing around with players to ABP screwing around with everybody else and JA front and center with this complete bs that was previously the domain of CW.
Makes you wonder what else is going on.. was ABP(JA/CW) getting a cut? Did they say/do something otherwise to try to keep the Pinoys out of it?
And people are supposed to take this stuff seriously?
