A normal business man would have quit years ago. A normal business man would probably have never started in the first place.
No a good normal business man would of found a way to make money and then when he stopped making money he would of sold the US OPEN.

Please point to one time that has happened in the U.S. in the modern history of professional pool.
Hell please point to one guy who ever made money doing 50K+ added events. My guess is since no one does them anymore but a nutty little dude in Virginia its not something a normal white bread business type is likely to try.
Would you consider the Seminole tribe of Florida as decent businessmen? They tried the pool game for a minute. How did that end?

I would point at the Derby City Classic.
It is a great event, it makes money for Greg Sullivan, and its good for Diamond tables. I think Greg lost money for the first 2-3 years and since then it has been very profitable.
I don't agree with everything that Greg has done with the DCC, but I cant imagine him embarrassing himself and pool in general with such conduct.
I don't think pool is dead or on life support. Like many things, it has to compete with so many other things, where in the past, it didn't. Secondly, the country is really struggling financially, and I don't see that getting any better, ever.
Pool will survive, and struggle. As much as everyone wants to moan about pool leagues (including me), but I think it is probably the best thing to happen in recent years. Without it, pool would be 1/2 what it is currently. It keeps most of the pool rooms in business, and keeps interest in the game.
Barry needs to learn from Greg Sullivan, and step away and let someone else be the face to the US Open.

Welcome to the pool world. Allow me to present JCIN's Rules of Pro Pool World (Updated 2014 version)
1. Completely disregard any ideas about the pool world having anything at all in common with the real world.
2. Never bet against a Filipino
3. Always bet on Shane
4. If Shane is playing a Filipino keep your money in your pocket and enjoy the show.
5. If Cliff Joyner ever asks you stake him at a craps game...do it. You will lose all your money but you will get to tell the story about how you staked Cliff Joyner at a craps game.
6. If Barry Behrman ever says "We have a deal" consider yourself screwed. You may not know how/why/when but it just happened.
Heed these tenants and you shall prosper.
I can't wait until I get the oppurtunity to stake Cliff at craps. I'm dead serious.

Me and I think Ktown did it one year at Derby. The key is to be hammered enough to think its not that terrible an idea but sober enough to remember you did it.
Its a fine line.
Overall it's everything you think it would be.
