Bathroom breaks at the U.S. Open

I'd be surprised that happened on the non TV matches. But if it did I'm sure the rules would have been enforced. Like I said, the TV matches were mishandled. Either don't do commercials on live streams or record live, drop in commercials and then broadcast.

I would imagine that sky sports (who actually broadcast this and is the only partner Matchroom cares about) dictated the timing for their broadcast schedule. What we see
In the US is just an afterthought as we aren’t the market for Matchroom.

8 times?....seriously?? 8 TIMES??
Don't get me wrong: Gorst is an amazing PRO pool player,.............. but......
8 times? What'd he get? .... a bad burrito or something?

I've played tv matches before and it's typical for the players to have to sit and wait while the commercial time is inserted. The matches I played were ESPN taped matches, so it even happens when the matches are taped and are edited later. So we just sat and waited. We were only allowed one break per match, so there was no getting up and leaving, and it was only a minute or two at certain points during the match. Goes with the territory, unfortunately.

So the players weren't allowed to wonder around to the bathroom or wherever they want to 8 different times during one match? 1 bathroom break makes sense.

Great players have a way to adapt to their surroundings. There were tons of tv timeouts this stream and he found a way to overcome it by leaving the set.

I don’t think players should be just sitting there.

Production needs to change how they do their broadcasts.

Right and it's actually 2 breaks because you could also leave when your opponent takes a break as long as you're back in the room when they return.

I use to do this but to the extreme. I would leave the pool hall and have them call me on my phone if I have a match coming up. I tell them to call me when the match starts on the table I’m suppose to be at next.

What was I doing? I go for lunch, go home actually or go for a drive and listen to music.

I have no argument. Matchroom allowed Fedor to disappear during the TV timeouts. I said they mismanaged it. What I disagree with is calling Fedor a shark artist for pulling moves.

The number of commercial breaks in the final match was 7 -- after every 3rd game in the 23-game match. Gorst left the arena all 7 times. Van Boening left 3 times, 2 of which were just briefly (shorter than the break).

So, there was a previous kerfuffle in a 3-hour match when one of the players left for three breaks. I was thinking that he probably had violated the guidelines, but it is clear from the above post of the rules that he hadn't. It was even OK -- according to the rules -- that he hadn't actually gone to the bathroom, but maybe had smoked.

Right. And I imagine the Matchroom text was written thinking mostly about the normal "between racks" time to just rack the balls. I don't blame any player for getting up and walking around during these extended commercial breaks of about 3 minutes each.

I didn't think either of those two smoked?
