Perhaps, and just throwing out a random idea here, if their PR was a wee bit better, there may have been more fans.

it appeared that they lacked a marketing budget ...........well enuff said.

Not sure it really would have made a sufficient difference.

They aren't selling anything that any significant # of people want...or understand.
 
The PR they could afford turned me off the game right away and apparently that was their plan since, as a one-pocket player, I have no idea about cue sports.

Mission accomplished. Go team!

IPT failed because their main advertising was through online gambling which got snuffed out in the US. The only other way to pay out as much as they were in prizes was to just take money from something that was profitable and toss it at IPT. I just watched an IPT match I found in a box of pool DVDs and the production was pretty good, as good as the Mosconi Cup, although the waving camera thing was there too often.

Do you know if they ever payed out, I seem to remember this one player who won and he had a son, but they stiffed him on prize money for first place and it was really large amount, can't remember his name, Tony Robles maybe?

I think its relatively safe to say that the majority of folks here did not want BB to fail.

That doesn't mean that we have to like how we, the AZB community, were told that our opinions didn't matter, and any of several other arrogant and/or condescending remarks hurled our way.

The short of it is this: if the PR had been handled better here, there would have been far less backlash at the inevitable failure. The PR was amazingly poor, and a great number of potential customers were undoubtedly turned off by the attitude that was presented here. (Of course, since we weren't "the target audience", it really didn't matter how we were treated, now did it?)

I feel bad for those who put so much time and effort into this. I really do. But I don't feel sorry for being right in my estimation of the projects potential for success.

I'm not sure whose assets you're trying to spend for them, but you'd have an easier time getting some lawmakers together on a little pork barrel project.

They're willing especially since it's not their money they're spending.:cool:

I agree but why is that the ONLY pool project that has been attempted in recent history is a newly INVENTED GAME! Why can't we just have somebody back a professional tour of a game everyone knows....8-Ball? 9-Ball?...How about we use the U.S. AMATEUR format of a mixed set of the two games? I just don't see the point of thinking you have to reinvent the wheel to get people interested..... I mean if Arena Football couldn't be a success, how the hell was Bonus Ball supposed to save the Pool World?....jmho...:confused:

It always amazes me when you go anywhere with a pool table because there is always someone playing on it. I think the reason why pool is not not will ever be anything than what it is simply because it is a past time. I honestly hope BB makes something better of itself for the sake of pool. And no I am not talking of the barry:|

How long do you think 'recent' is?

There have been many Tours that have come and gone, plus the IPT and Hopkins' Million (pennies) event jump to mind as 'recent' to me...

I agree that we shouldn't be gloating over any pool entity's demise but I always believe that when one door closes another opens.

I think with the exodus of the pool players from Vegas there will be a short-lived vacuum and given time, the players will rise up from the ashes to be re-born once more like the Phoenix of legend.

Exaclty my thoughts. I definitely support a pro league of some sort but Bonus ball was very difficult to get behind for numerous reasons. The game that nobody else plays or has seen; the hideous cheesey team jerseys with no fans and the girls spotting the balls in wrong place; the schedule conflict; and many more. More amazing how SOME not all players were verbally bashing the TD's of tournaments that suffered because they were so near sighted in the BB meal ticket. Practically biting the hand that feeds you.
