I went to the acs and may and paid 220 for air fair and about $60 a night to stay at excalibur. I thought that was pretty cheap.. Now the fool holy jesus. The best deal I think I got was eating at gordon ramsey's new burger place. Two Burgers fries and sodas was about $50 bucks but when you consider I paid $34 for to eat mall quality chinease food at mgm it's not to bad lol

As Ozzy said, we are tracking fairly close to last year's numbers. We get a HUGE push on deadline dates and it takes a few days to go through the stacks we have in the office.

It takes some time to verify the entries and to get them processed. The final numbers wont be available for another 3 weeks or so.

We feel the move to the Rio was necessary.
Many people favor the July dates (no school, no Mother's Day conflict) etc.
There is not much difference between Mid May and Mid July weather - it is ALL too hot.
Some of the Northern climates have balked but we feel we can get them back through providing better events etc.

All pricing in Vegas is creeping up - the Rio rates are the same and we think we have some solutions for providing less expensive food options.

Last year was our first year in a new venue - we had a 73 mph storm that blew out electricity for 14 hours and had a lot of other issues that were out of our control.

We feel this year will be better than ever. The pro stuff is very exciting and actually more viable for us.

It was definitely time to get out of the Riviera. Poor service, poor condtions of the hotel. I was looking for you to move for years and couldn't be happier that you did.

Airfare is simply way up -- has nothing to do with the time of the year. Costs me almost $500 to fly out this year. It never used to be over $300 and some years was closer to $200

There is no food court in the Rio. Not trying to get people to leave your facility but there is a food court over at the Palms and it is not a bad walk (unless it is 118 outside). But at least at the restaurants at the Rio, you get sat and served quickly.....unlike the Riviera.

Looking forward to next month. Thanks for all you, Ozzie and your team do.

Vegas in July, they should be giving away hotel rooms:eek:

But they are not, and not much is cheap in Las Vegas any longer. I recall the day of inexpensive rooms, breakfast specials, dinner special, and world class buffet for reasonable prices.

Back than I think the Casino's made out on gaming losses. Today the game plan of the Casino's is to seep rat the visitor from ever dime from the moment they step in to any thing in sin city, be it hotel, motel, or ?

That is the way it is, and what was is no more.

I have been doing this deal for 15-20 years and much prefer the Rio to the Riv. The main issues I see are the air fare is insane compared to what it was say 3 years ago. Vegas in general, now that the economy has come back somewhat for some folks, is much more expensive. I can remember finding $3 dollar tables during the week, now you have to search for $5 and most are $10. Dining has gotten more expensive. Gone are the days where food was cheap just to get you into the casino. In general it is much more expensive to get there, stay there, and eat there now days in most cases.

As far as the heat, I could care less. I'm going to be inside not outside. If I'm not playing, eating, watching the pros, or gambling, I'm probably taking a nap.:)
I also like the fact there are not any more tokens and you can watch the pros play at no charge. I can't even begin to estimate how much I have spent over the years on tokens and to watch the pros play in the old venue. I do the $50 dollars a day, eat when and how much you like at the buffet. I would spend that much a day even when we were staying at the Riv.

I much prefer the Rio to the Riv all things considered. The only draw back on the Rio is you are not really on the strip and somewhat off the beaten path. Other than that, I think it is a much better venue and will continue to support it.

I was thinking the same thing.. who cares about the heat..I'm only outside for a few minutes at a time. Hell I wear jeans the whole time because I'm freezing in the casino's lol

Coco, you may not have noticed, but an ice cream cone is no longer a nickel !..Vegas is no different than any other popular tourist destination. Just like here in Phx., they are after your $$$$..Vegas just has more ways to get it !..
..Air fare will no doubt hurt attendance, but no one can control that.

Why do you care anyway, you quit buying cokes when they went to 50 cents ..When was the last time you played
in a tournament, with an entry fee over $5 ?...I can't imagine you ever going anywhere, but the FREE senior rec centers here in town !..Most people go to Vegas, because its FUN, and they're willing to spend a few bucks to have it !

I prefer the Rio over the Riv ALLLLL DAY! Better restaurants, a better pool, better rooms... and July wasn't as bad in Vegas as I expected last year. It was hot, but nothing some drinks by the pool couldn't fix.

I'll be there this year, drinking by the pool. Come buy me one! Thanks! :)

Dannnggg, I booked my flight from here for $425 direct on Delta. Economy class, cause I'm a nit.

rates as of today:

RDU to LAS @ 6 nights, non-stop, 1 person

FLIGHT ONLY - $600

FLIGHT W/ HOTEL
RIO - $835
BELLAGIO/COSMO - $960
MGM - $750
MIRAGE/NY NY - $725
LUXOR/TREASURE ISL - $700
EXCALIBUR/TROPICANA - $655
STRAT/RIVIERA - $610

so the Rio is $40/night.
(but for $110 less, i'd stay @ Mirage)
i forgot to check the Palms - but the Playboy Club is on their top floor....

EDIT - all of these include $100 food comp.

I was cheaper at the Riv and if you wanted a quick cheap meal, McD's was right across the street, whereas Rio had nothing cheap to eat, the BK was the cheapest place to eat if you wanted to stand in long lines, but the options were limited, although they had great food at that place near the sports betting room? lol

The Rio is really nice, but it's off the strip and getting to the strip kind of sucked. I stayed there a week and it was quite expensive.

I've been to the BCA national events in Vegas for the last several years, the thing that has been bugging me is when they went to Diamonds, don't get me wrong I love the tables, but there are none in my hometown or anywhere close to practice on and that put several players at a disadvantage while other players play on them predominantly in their home towns giving them an advantage.

Another thing that bothered me was when they moved to July which put it closer to our state tournaments and it's tough trying to get all these days off near the same time year, so this year I ditched BCA for the first time in a long time and decided to give ACS a try for the first time instead in Vegas, it was much cheaper at Tropicana, right on the strip in the busy part of town, Valley tables which I'm used to playing on and we've all played on them which makes it pretty even for both players, no brand new never seen Cyclopes balls to get used to on the fly (I actually liked them), but I had a great time and played well on tables I'm used to playing on. You had other Casino's nearby including the mono rail, so you could easily hit several casinos and walk back whereas Rio is like it's own town and any other casino seemed far away and took a lot of time getting back and forth

The downside was it was a much smaller field, less payouts to, but it was in May like BCA used to be and that worked out well for me.

Looking forward to next year? The jury is still out.

I remember delivering Structural Steel for the Ballagio in 1997, than walk across the street to the Barberry Coast Casino. Steak, Egg, and Coffee Breakfast Special was like $3.49. Those deals are the old Vegas

If you have not been to the CSI/BCAPL event at the RIO, do yourself a favor and get your entries in now.

May vs July

Think back to when BCAPL first introduced scratching on the 8-ball not being a loss or ball in hand anywhere after scratching on the break. The early responses to these changes were that they seemed somehow wrong--like not 8-ball the way we know and love it.... Now, we're used to them and they are good rules.

The switch from May to July is a little like this. Pool players just associate VEGAS with MAY. So when you hear things like how hot July is, I think what you're really hearing is "it's not May, and it just doesn't feel right." I think it won't be long until July feels right. There are a lot of reasons July is a better time, not the least of which is it gives us an opportunity to get a much better venue.

Rio vs Riviera

To walk down a long hall in a nice place with giant posters of prominent pool players including where they are from and key accomplishments is really awesome. And then to have some of those players playing in front of you IN THE SAME ROOM as you play is phenomenal. I know they are working out the best format for having top pros play in and around the amateurs, and I'm thankful they seem committed to this idea. The Rio is great! The swimming pools are fantastic. It's much better for the non-pool-playing spouse. Penn & Teller .... Food...

We've got a good contingent coming from Fargo.

Again there are a few days left. If you're on the fence, I urge you to go. This really has been a positive step for pool...

just a head's up - book now.

i've got 30K+/- people rolling in for my furniture show b/w JUL 20-25 (till AUG 2), and most haven't booked yet. we don't stay at Rio, so you're safe. but it could jackup Rio's & other hotels' rates.

there's a big Eiffel Tower across from Bellagio now.

in 2002, i could fly for $200 plane & $130 hotel.
now it's $600 plane & $25-50 hotel. (plus $100 luggage fee)

every hotel offers 2for1 dinners @ $40, 3 course meal.
every hotel offers $100 food credit (3 night minimum).
i don't know what buffets cost.

I have boycotted Nevada since it for OBAMA in 2012, so I don't do Sin City no more..

Hi!

I was hesitant as I don't like change and actually enjoyed the Riv since I was used to it for the last 10 years or so, so I was very comfortable there. But I loved the Rio last year and the food and rooms are MUCH better. Everyone talks about the heat, but it's a dry heat and are you really outside that much? I actually love the weather there :)

I think Vegas in general is more expensive. I can't find a cheap room right now anywhere, since ALL casinos charge a $20 DAILY resort fee (which the Rio does NOT when you use their group travel rate through BCAPL/CSI).

I can't wait til July!

One place for cheap food by the Rio is right next door at the Gold Coast Casino. They have an excellent dim sum place called Ping Pang Pong. I waddled out of there for like $15 at a Saturday brunch. The lines can get a little long though.
