This is in response to the question/discussion about an IPT and BCAPL connection.
The BCAPL has ALWAYS supported pool events. We were approached by the IPT several months ago (before the non-payment issue) about joining the up-coming affiliate program. We held off when all their money issues began presenting themselves.
After KT's "pop the champagne" announcement (plus several other sources), we felt reasonably assured that the Chicago event would go as scheduled. and the players would be paid prior to or at the Chicago event.
In our wildest imagination, We did not think that KT would make the announcement he did - and then in less than a week do a complete turn around. We feel a little abused. We do not use our site and e-mail lists for frivilous items. We took every precaution we could and tried to do what was best for the pool players - unfortunately we were mislead.
Like everyone in the industry, we wanted the IPT to succeed. This tour created a new "buzz" to the industry and had the possibility of getting our sport the recognition it deserves. It is a terrible disappointment, but much has been learned. Maybe we (the industry) can take advantage of all the info gleamed from this "experiment". And although the IPT future does not look good, strange things happen.
So-there is no "connection" between the IPT and BCAPL - other than we strongely supported the IPT and desperately wanted it to survive. We would do the same for any future "tour" that proposes to elevate the industry. However, I guess we would have to be a little more suspect.
Because of my ties to Diamond and the amatuer pool players, I felt it was my "responsibility" to try and help the IPT succeed. Everyone connected to the IPT has suffered a loss - however, I doubt many have been to the extent that Diamond has suffered. When I acquired the BCA Pool Leagues, I was criticized by some about my motives. I believe in pool and will continue to put my money where my mouth is to help promote the future of our great sport.
