Does anyone remember this quote I believe is about Wimpy. "He would walk into a pool room and watch the players. If a guy missed more than one ball in an hour, he knew he could beat him!"

After hearing Mr 714 Jayson Shaw broke the record as a lark trying for just a few days. It made me realize. Nobody plays straight pool. So it's more like a gimmick.hi
thats cool.
my buddy boo weekley was doing a golf clinic.
someone in the crowd heckled him so he said watch this ,and made a hole in one on his next shot on demand.then he said if you think that was luck he made another for good measure.
.running 11 racks on demand would be about as tough but hey you said you saw it so i guess ill go with it.
think about how silly what you said sounds.
if willie ever ran 11 in his life he would be fortunate.
but to do it on demand to shut up a heckler is ridiculous and shows how people like to remember things.
by the way someone asked me the other day if my high run was 786.
they said someone told them it was my high run and that they watched the last 400 balls of it. you see what i mean.
by the way boo didnt really make the hole in one i made that up. i wouldnt want you to think that really happened .
Here's a list of Mosconi's world championships. It shows 8 matches to 2000 or more points, and in 5 of those 8 the opponent scored more than 50% of Mosconi's total. If no one can name a world 14.1 champion with more than 5 world championships under their belt, let alone 15 world titles, no one since Mosconi could ever fill his shoes! In a race to 2,000 no one could score more than a 1,000 points against him!
According to Cliff Thayer, who also had a high run of 449 balls, and lived in Willie's time frame, he told me back then they would play races to 2,000 points quite often, not in block play, no one could score more than a 1,000 points before Willie racked up 2,000 points. Here's a list of Mosconi's world championships. Willie Mosconi's World Championships
Since I don't have much else to do during the pandemic, I extracted Mosconi's World Championship winning performances from Charlie Ursitti's records. This starts from the first one he won in 1941. Note that in 1933 he lost by a single ball. From 1941 to 1956 there were some other championships...forums.azbilliards.com
My brother's cousin's sister-in-law's husband from her father's side, whom also lived in the time of Willie Nelson once told me that it never rained in Seattle. Therefore, based on the laws of the internet and the laws of transitive arguments, it must be true. Damn those history books.According to Cliff Thayer, who also had a high run of 449 balls, and lived in Willie's time frame, he told me back then they would play races to 2,000 points quite often, not in block play, no one could score more than a 1,000 points before Willie racked up 2,000 points.
You were told the truth, I've been in Seattle 100's of times, and it never rained on those days either. My brother's cousin's sister-in-law's husband from her father's side, whom also lived in the time of Willie Nelson once told me that it never rained in Seattle. Nothing larky about that performance. He was paid to play, did awesomely over several days, left the pool hall after a lil hiccup/distraction on his last day that ended a run in the 3 or 4 hundreds maybe? Something high. After hearing Mr 714 Jayson Shaw broke the record as a lark trying for just a few days. It made me realize. Nobody plays straight pool. So it's more like a gimmick.
What do you think Willie would have done if there was a paycheck involved for setting a record for the highest run ever? I mean, 526 just during an exhibition, for no extra money, for freeNothing larky about that performance. He was paid to play, did awesomely over several days, left the pool hall after a lil hiccup/distraction on his last day that ended a run in the 3 or 4 hundreds maybe? Something high.
But he turned around and came back to play more and ended up going through the night, and around 8 in the morning he scratched on a break after 714 shots. It was b’dass
Mr Shaw had actually played 14.1 several times before starting that challenge. He’s one of the best pool players on earth. One of the straightest shooters to have ever lived and likely will still be top 10 even if pool goes on for another 500 years. All this skill on a generous table? It’s not like some random dude or even a shortstop picked up a cue and ran 714.
Yes yes I feed trolls. A habit
13 years later my high run in 14.1 is still less than it is in 1PI really lie John, he is a good friend who I firmly should make every attempt to break that record. He will be doing alot for himeself and pool as well. Its "THE" record. I hope he dedicates himself to breaking it, I believe he can do it. The cue might feel a little funny at 520 but he is mentally strong, tough as nails, I watched it again this week and thats what 14.1 takes(and this opinoion is comming from a player with a high run of 8, I can run more balls playing one hole, than 14.1)Seriously JS can do it for sure. the old record is too old anyways.
Got ya, so the name Willie should only be associated with 15 world championships, and not setting the high run record. He would’ve run a whole bunch of 2 and 3 hundreds, a couple 4 hundreds, and if he kept at it for a while he’d run another 500+ and if he kept at it even more he’d have gotten to the 6-7 hundreds and if he kept at it yet longer he’d likely have gotten into the 900’s.
No one with a name of “willie” could ever get into the thousands though. That’s not a straight pool thing that’s more of a name thing. I get that it was a different time but...’willie’ ...no no that’s not the handle of a 1,000+ ball runner.
Had he gone by Bill or Wild Bill he’d likely have gotten to 1k that night in Ohio or wherever it was.
Not taking anything away from Shaw for running 714 balls, but playing against another player, shooting back at you, thats a whole different game. And Willie would have beaten him repeatedly, just like he did against every other top world class players. Willie was on a level all his own, and didn't share it with ANY other players!Nothing larky about that performance. He was paid to play, did awesomely over several days, left the pool hall after a lil hiccup/distraction on his last day that ended a run in the 3 or 4 hundreds maybe? Something high.

Similar-My high run in 9 Ball (3 pack=27) is higher than in SP (22). The last time i played SP- We were going to 125 -I quit when he reached 100 or so. I had had at least 15 innings and my high run was 2!13 years later my high run in 14.1 is still less than it is in 1P
Somethings don’t change……
I don't think it should. He played in a time when they played straight pool. Lots more opportunities to win world championships back then.Mosconi is a 15 time world 14.1 champion. That should settle any debate.
Yeah 15 out of 18,pretty strong.Mosconi is a 15 time world 14.1 champion. That should settle any debate.
I think it was Grady who insisted it wasn't even played many of those years-His championship was just 'carried over' until it was played again. No idea the veracity on that.Yeah 15 out of 18,pretty strong.
I think only Caras and Crane won the other 3 maybe there was a third player.
