Best action in your area?

Mr. Cues II in Atlanta, GA is where you would probably find the best action around here. The Poolroom in Duluth (about 15 minutes away from Cues) occasionally has some too, but usually when there are major tournaments held there.

I'll give you action if we can make a game... and I haven't picked up a cue in 2 months!

I've been playing this game a long time, but there's one class of player I can't ever seem to beat ...

...

...anyone who points out he hasn't picked up a cue in two months....

Action at the Q Club regularly. A 2,000 dollar set was played their last week. Usually can get 100 a game one pocket action on a daily bases with the guy that owns the room or some of the locals. Road players need to stop and check it out.
Hey 1on1 is the room owners name Jim? My friend opened a room in Terra Haute I haven't been able to visit yet just wondering. Philw

I live in Sunny San Diego County. If I drive 30 min. in any direction I can get to Downtown or Orange County. Lots of dough in the OC. Although downtown San Diego has lots of action, lots of railbirds, hustlers, and he all important MARK!!

Who and what would motivate someone to actually go to flyover country...on purpose! That has to be some of the most desolate country one can find. Kansas? Sheesh!!!

And I gotta tell ya, the Shooters in Wichita is a real dive...sticky beer soaked pockets and rails, dead cushions, poor lighting, snippy ignorant barmaids, and no nada zip action...that is, unless you're looking to hook up with a backerless Matlock or Walden. No, Shooters is a place to avoid since the ownership change. Dive city without any socially redeeming virtues...that is, unless you're lookin' to have a pitcher accidently dumped onto your Richard Black and into your cue case.

Where's the pool action or dough in OC?

Dave, I really dont know what your problem is... The topic asked a simple question so I gave a simple, honest reply. Olathe is a suburb of Kansas City, not Wichita. Dan Tull has full control of Shooters again and I can guarantee you if you want to play James or Dave at this establishment, finding a stakehorse for either one of these two players will not be a problem.

Oh, and one other thing, I would say the Desert is a more desolate place than western Kansas.

I'll second that.

Anytime someone refers to the mid-section of the country as flyover territory he's merely showing his own limited perspective. Quality of life can be quite good there and quite poor on either coast, depending on what you make of it. I've lived all over the country as well as in Europe. Kansas isn't bad at all. Missouri? That's another story. ;)

Well, Shooters in Wichita is not the epitomy of class, but it is not like you describe it. Most of our rooms here are 10-11 table rooms. Did you stop by Rumors? Or go to Sidepockets with 31 tables, and our most classy room?

If you can't get played at Shooters, you didn't try very hard, and the ownership did not change, Paul still owns Shooters. I will play you, and any one of probably 10 players in town will play you for larger money if you want. Paul plays pretty sporty himself. The Challenge table goes from $5 to $20 a game every weekend night, and ring games are pretty common in there.

It has been a while since I was there, but it surely isn't the place I remember.

Just about anywhere in the Carolinas, you can get action. Even the smaller areas. I'm not exaggerating that there might be 100 break and runout players within a fifty mile radius of Raleigh.

action

the washington DC area (including VA and MD) see's a fair share of action.

9 ball - one pocket - primarily - but you might see anything! billiards - one ball seems to growing in popularity locally as well - anybody else seeing much one ball?

You have as much of a problem with recent imports as we do here in Arizona? Seems like everyone wants to move to Phoenix.

125 degree rock and rubble...no thanks...I had enough of that in Vegas for 5 years...

First of all, the main point I was making is that many road players prefer the Jack Cooney approach...walk softly and carry a big stick. Not all of us go looking for the world beaters in dead stroke.

And BTW, are not the BEST tables and players in Wichita to be found at Tight Pockets? Now those folks know a thing or two about the game... Look, if I were advising a road player where to hook up in Wichita, I send him to Tight Pockets.

Oh yes, about my original comments in this thread...If you rolled into Shooters, ordered a beer and went to check out the tables and had the bar maid dump a pitcher in YOUR cuecase before you took your first shot and then was told when you immediately returned the balls that they were going to charge you for a full hour, how would you react? Most places would apologize for dumping the beer and not charge you for not playing. Shooters is a dive!!!

Edit - Just realized the "dive" I was describing was SidePockets, not Shooters. I believe Shooters is strickly a bar box kinda place. No real tables at all. Sorry for the mis ID. Could it be that both places have rooms in both cities?

I'd be pissed. But I don't think you gave the place enough of a chance.

I lived in Wichita for 2 years. The first year was unbearable, then I found shooters. If you're a pool player, you'll love this place. GREAT action every night of the week. challenge table, tournaments galore and lots of players of all abilities willing to play for 5 or 10 and even some for 100 or more.

Wichita when I lived there (96-99) had THE BEST pool scene of anywhere I've lived. That includes Denver(89-92 & 99-03), Atlanta (92-95), San Francisco (2003-?) and Phoenix (99), yes Phoenix. Always action, always tournaments and always friendly games if that's what you were looking for. In addition, lots of open tournaments with world-beaters to compete with or just sweat the action. Plenty of action on bar table or big table.

Sorry you had a bad experience Dave, I know how crappy that can be, but it's not typical of the pool experience at Shooter's.

Cheers,
RC

Respect your position...and I have nothing against the bar box action at Shooters. But I was describing an experience at a dive called *SidePockets*.

Appears you were in Wichita during Gabe's stay there. Did you know he had to move to Tulsa to find action?

He left before I got there. But I saw him many times when he came back for tournaments and action.

*He* had trouble getting action there. That doesn't mean you would :D

Never went to side pockets.

Tulsa at that time probably had the best pool scene in the nation. Never lived there though I visited some. There was always action at the billiard palace and magoo's.

As I was writing, I didn't see your previous post, but I realized that you might have been mistaken because there aren't any hourly tables at shooters...

Cheers,
RC
