I believe my shot making and position play are pretty well off and of course no one is perfect! I still drill vigoursly but I find that I cannot get over the mental aspect of the game. About 4 years ago I competed almost every in tournaments. I was just wondering if there is a particularly good book dealing with the mental aspect of the game and also if someone has one that they would loan out.

Thanks

Alex

Many people suggest "The inner game of tennis". I've heard it pretty much applies to pool as well.

The Pleasure of Small Motions!!!!!!

If you can finish that book you are ready for the world!!!!!!!!!!!!

I second this choice. I am receiving "The inner game of Tennis" for Christmas.

plan "B"

Plan "B": Forget the books and play a lot of chess. Seems to work for some funny looking little short guy with an accent. ;)

If you are still sticking with plan "A", the books, I haven't a clue. The "best" book depends heavily on the individual and even where they are at in their mental game at the moment. I will say this, the mental game is largely the same for all types of competition and even some of the books on success in business or selling are helpful. Read whatever is handy or available at the local library.

Well, if you can benefit from a tennis book, why not try a bowling book. After all, Billy Welu repeatedly said "Trust is a must or your game is bust" and I often apply this to my pool game, especially when I catch myself being tentative. The book: Add 30 pins to your bowling score, by Billy Welu.

The Inner Game of Tennis. Probably the best book you'll ever read. Pleasures of Small Motions is good too, but a lot harder to read and a lot more technical.

Nobody has metioned the Monk... His book "I came to win" was helpful IMO
"Point the way" is also good...

"A mind for Pool: how to master the mental game" by Phil Capelle. An absolute must read...very helpful.;)

Buy the books.... I paid maybe $15 for a copy of Inner Game of Tennis on Amazon, so it won't break you. A library of your own is a wonderful thing.

I just started reading it. I won it free from P&B magazine last month.:)

Body, Mind, Mastery by Dan Millman. Sarah Rousey Referred me to this book and I found it pretty helpful, not just in pool but all aspects of life.

"The Tao of Sports"

"Golf is not a game of Perfect"

I've read 'small motions', "inner game of tennis", the Monk's and Capelle's attempts... but the Golf/Perfect was the one that did it for me.

You have to have goals.
