Best Break Cue

I am looking for a break cue. price isn't too much of an issue but what cue would you recommend.

I prefer the cue to be very light.

I have been looking around the best ones seem to be BK2, Mezz power breaker 2, or perhaps a custom j/b cue.

Can anyone recommend any custom makers who make excellent performing j/b cues and what prices they start at and comparisons to production break cues.

Am I better getting a seperate cue for breaking and jumping or are there good ones that do both?

Thanks in advance

you know in my opinion the BK2 is a good break cue but not the best out there. the mezz PB2 is fantastic and i don't think you can go wrong with one but for the price there're plenty of customs that you could afford.

i dig gilbert j/b (in a pinch you can play with 'em) and i'd really like to try a pete ohmen j/b. i had an arnot break cue that broke well but unless you can get one used you're going to have to pay out the teeth for one

i forgot to add that JW Petree's break and jump great and they look better than just about anyother j/b i've ever seen.

if you're looking for something really light then you're probably going to have to go for a custom

I would Contact Rick Howard and buy one of his Mace Jump/Break cues. Ricks cues are great for breaking and jumping, and since the cue is a Custom you can Rick build the cue to your specifications , unlike the import cues you mentioned above. In addition Ricks cue will last a life time, they are built to much higher standards and will last and perform longer than any of the imports.

just my thought's

i hear Johnny Archer used a rick howard breaker for years

I just ordered a Lomax j/b after hearing rave reviews about them.

Very high end construction, and he likes making the cue on the light side, as well.

Do a search for "Lomax" and see what pops up.

I build cues and I use a BK2 and and diferrent jump cue. I am not sure if it is because I am lazy or I just like it. LOL I really like the BK2 and for what I have in it I will keep using it.

Gulyassy

I bought a used Gulyassy/Samsara from a user here. Love the break this thing gives me with Mike's new tip. He has some nice looking j/b's on his website at a reasonable price.

and even when everything is in order the cue spins the ball too much for a break cue

Speaking as a non pro but with a pretty stout break ... I have tried a Predator BK and BK2 and can't really see the hype. I can break as well with my Predator SP although I don't want the stress on my playing cue.

My current break cue, and it smashes the rack ... although you have to be a tad more careful than you are with a low deflection shaft ... is a stripped down Viper butt with a stiff 13 MM shaft and a Picone White Diamond tip.

Total cost I don't remember, but it is around $50.00 total plus about 15 minutes work.

When I changed tips I sawed half the ferrule of and drilled a hole about 5" down the center of the shaft.

Total weight is 16.75 ozs if I remember correctly.

Maybe it's just that I'm inherently cheap, but unless one is a highly skilled player I don't believe that spending $300.00 or more on a cue that you will use 1 shot per game makes a lot of sense.

For most people the money would be better invested in a good case and/or lessons.

FWIW ... the break is the strongest part of my game.

My $0.02. YMMV.
