Best hitting custom in the $300-$400 range?

I'd like to get my first custom in the near future. I want a new plain jane in the $300-$400 range, either coco or BEM with a linen wrap, and one 12.75 mm shaft. Nothing too fancy on the ringwork. Not thinking of it as an investment, but a daily player to use in my basement on my home table. I currently play with a Viking w/314-2 and like it, but all of this talk of customs makes me want to get one for my upcoming 40th b-day. I'd also consider a sneaky pete or hustler or whatever. Don't care about inlays or ivory. Don't like stainless joints.

Some cuemakers that I have heard good things about that may be in this price range:

Pat Diveney
Dick Neighbors/RHN Cues
Bob Dzuricky/ DZ cues

Is there a clear winner out of these three? Anyone else I should be thinking about?

I'd check out Starkey also. And I hear great things about Sugartree. If you can get a plain jane Ned Morris, his cues play great.

One other one I should mention is Rat Cue.

Dave Albrecht is great to work with he can make you exactly what you want for a very fair price . His link is in my signature.

Coker Sneaky Petes are a Great Value ...

You can often find one of Tom Coker's Custom Sneaky Petes for under $400.00 with (1) Shaft and a little more with (2) Shafts ... They are constructed every bit as well as his higher-end cues and play great ... I have marketed a lot of Tom's Cues over the years and they stand up to the test ...

Here is a nice Downey player in your range. Shaft diameter and tip can be changed to suit you. $395

Here is a Rat custom as well. A little fancier, but still in your price range.
(Thanks Jay for the mention)

You would have to include Bob Frey, who has been making solid hitting cues in this price range for the last 25 years. See examples in different woods on my site wwwcuesnthings.com

If I can assist you, call 301-452-3600 JP

Tap Tap Tap on the Fry cues all the way. They are way underpriced for how they play and look I think. You know he deserves alot more respect than he gets. That is one good cue maker and has very good prices.I think Fry is one of the best makers for what your seeking.Scruggs even refers people to him for Sneaks. That says alot in my book.

I will second the Bill Dominiak cue, www.dominiakcues.com. I have one as my player and very happy with it, great value. Wood to wood joints and Bill will customize your cue anyway you want it if you call him.

I have an old D-series McDermott cue in perfect condition, and I had Chris Byrne make a new (very high quality) shaft when I had him replace the standard 3/8-10 pin with a stainless steel radial pin, and the cue hits like high end custom cue, really an amazing feel. $350.00 shipped

Thanks
Ted

Samsara's BarCue line shouldn't be left out as well, and can be had in the range stated.

Try BHQ on here, or www.Willeecue.com on here as well.
