Best Jump/Break Cue?

my mezz powerbreak 2 di is not known for being a jump cue but its the best cue i've ever used for jumping....especially longer jumps....though it handles short ones too.its also 3/4 length as standard so you don't have to bother unscrewing it to jump.

Andy Gilbert makes a fine J/B. So does Pete Ohman (Omen)

Here's a pic of my Gilbert. Price range is about $450

For $60 a J&J is hard to beat. I have one of those also and it breaks and jumps very well.

I have had the first generation x-breaker, a sledghammer, and the one I have now is a Varney jump/break. The Varney jump/break is the best of the bunch by far. Snag one if you can. Hope this helps.

It should be pretty easy to get one, there are many right here on this forum for sale. But, I have to agree with others for the money there certainly many that are equal or better.;)

I would personally contact Rick Howard at Mace Cues. Rick makes a Jump Break Cue that is second to none, and he is very easy to deal with directly. There is never a problem with communication, and Ricks word is his bond.

By the way, Rick also makes a great shooting cue..

I REALLY like an eBay cheapy....Gino Ferrari. It breaks awesome and the phenolic tip isn't rock hard. Plus it's a wood pin so that helps with vibration. It's also the best jump cue I've ever played with. eBay, $65.

I've got the Poison J/B cue. It's not bad. Not the best I've ever used but there have been plenty of people around here that really like it. I like my break cues to be a little heavier than this one is.

I recently bought the Poison VX2.9 (made by Predator). I don't have much experience with J/B's but people I trust/respect that have tried it say it jumps great, breaks pretty strong and has great control. The tip ("Sarin") is combo phenolic/leather so it gets more grip than phenolic. I was at Shooters when a prominent person there showed his new Poison to Mike Davis. This guy had a Fury J/B and sold it to some guy unannounced and on the spot. Mike said he would consider the Poison so he could get a bit more control on his break. (I guess I'll find out tomorrow at Shannon's tourney at Shooters this weekend if Mike got one.) Of course that was it for me - I had to get one asap. Our local rep here said the new Poison was hotter than hot and is backordered all over. He has 6 on backorder. I got one online from Seyberts for $159 (free shipping). And to respond to Mully's concern about weight - you can order your desired weight. Also of note - there was a slight modification to the grip - the new ones have a thin black strip with Poison written over and over along the length of the grip. You'd want the "newer" edition. And it looks badass!

Yeah, I ordered a 19.5. There's something about this cue that makes it feel like all the weight is in the butt and the shaft is really light. I prefer a break cue to be really well balanced. This one doesn't do that for me. I'll admit, it breaks well and jumps easily and accurately, but I just don't like the feedback from it.

I Have tried the BK2 / Stinger / Sniper ll / Fury / Bunjee / J&J / Sledgehammer and just about every other break or break/jump out there and i will stick with my Varney !!! IMO it is by far the best break/jump going today !!!

Thanks ....... Larry

For the $60 you can buy a J&J, and thats tough to beat. But for $65 you can get a kaiser J/B, and that was one hell of a breaker & jumper for me. Too bad it got stolen...

The Kaiser with the wooden pin is THE nutz. Erik Lee (dooziexx) can get you some at a great price.

I will put my new Gulyassy break jump to the test with any break jump cue on the market today. Breaking, short cue jumps, and full cue jumping, straitness, finish and over all looks. Ask Dennis Hatch what he thinks of my new cue. It is the nuts. I have tried it out at a tournament and it is amazing, anyone with one of the NEW Gulyassy break jump cues would have to agree with my claims. I make everyone in my shop and the quality is unmatched. Every piece of the butt is cored and individually tapered to insure a concentric perfect section. Any movement is fixable with a quick and easy facing off. No one can beat my production quality anywhere in the world, I guarantee it.

I personally took my old crappy falcon j/b and put a phenalic tip on it. It absolutely crushes the rack. But i'll be the first to admit that before i replaced the tip, the cue was a horrible j/b. Its all in what feels good to you. My buddy just got one of the short Cannon J/B's and it feels really good too.

Newest Edition

Here's my newest break/ jump, fresh out of the spray booth! Isn't she a beauty?

Yes. What do these go for?
These go for $475.00 plus shipping. I can make any combination of curly (stained) and different ring material, Bocote, Red Heart, Rosewwod, extra for burl, Ironwood and any more expensive exotic woods or Turquoise or Malechite.

Mike I agree your cues are good to go, I mean look how everyone has copied your idea for the Jump Break ferrule, that kinda says it all. It is kinda like the cue in this thread above your post the only difference being the White Diamond tip added to the jump break ferrule.

Have a good day Mike.

Chris,

Personally, I like the Jerico Stinger J/B combo. It jumps very well, maybe one of the best on the market, and breaks above average. It also has nice color combos.

I don't remember how much I paid for mine, maybe around 300 or so. I don't use it as a break cue anymore though, I just carry it around as my jump cue. For a break cue, I prefer the Predator BK2. It seems to be the least squirrely (sp?) breaker on the market, and I've tried quite a few.

I would not recommend a Fury J/B. The phenolic joint on mine cracked after about 6 months of use.

If you want cheap, check out the axiom j/b. a few on ebay sometimes. not the highest quality but it definitely does the trick.
