Best leather tip for breaking

My Mezz Power Break II has some sort of resin based tip. I think it is considered phenolic. Either way it doesn't hold chalk very good and I have a hard time controlling the cue ball. Can I have some suggestions for a good leather tip to use on a break cue?

Thanks in advance!

> Juan Rios here that posts under madman1nonly has a KILLER laminated tip he makes himself. I tried it after cuetechasaurus gave some away as samples, and it RULES!

There is also a large number of people that like the Samsara, which I honestly doubt is as hard as Juan's.

They're also really reasonable pricewise too . Tommy D.

+1 Samsaras are the nuts

Agreed. I have a Fury jump/break cue that formerly had a pure phenolic one-piece ferrule/tip. I had my friendly neighborhood cue repairman slice off just the rounded part of that one-piece ferrule/tip (thereby creating a flat stump), and glue a Samsara on top of it. That was two years ago, and I'd been using it ever since.

You have to look close to see where the phenolic ferrule stops, and the Samsara tip begins (e.g. in those tourneys that ban phenolic tips, I have to carefully point out to the officials that difference, so that they can see it's a Samsara tip, and not a one-piece Phenolic). But the additional effort is worth it. With the Samsara, you can break with spin (i.e. follow or draw), and the jump portion of the break/jump combo benefits from the fact I can apply spin on jump shots as well.

When the phenolic tip first became available, I jumped on the bandwagon, but soon realized that with the use of phenolic, you sacrificed a fair amount of control over your break, at least I did.

I've not tried a Samsara yet but advocate any leather tip over phenolic.
I generally replace phenolic with Super Pros.
I replaced a friends tip on his BK with a Talisman break tip and hes sold on it. The only problem with the Talisman break tip is that they are not readily available. You have to buy at least a package of 3 Talisman regular tips and Tony throws in a break tip as a bonus.

And how are the Samsara's for jumping, I may have to order a couple.
Will try Mad Mans tips too as the price is certainly right.

Having to buy 3 Talismans to get their break tip may not be such a problem. I recently needed to have severral tips replaced and used the opportunity to survey many popular brands. Of the tips that I tried, my favorite is Talisman WB Hard.

Atlas sells the Talisman break tips individually

i like the samsara for a break/jump or jump cue. it's very hard, almost like phenolic. i like white diamonds for jumping too (but not breaking), holds chalk better than phenolic.

for pure breaking though, I like the WB tips. soak them in mineral spirits for a couple days, then press the heck out of them in a vise (i use a picone tip press). let dry thoroughly and you'll have a rock hard leather tip. it doesn't jump as good as the samsara, so i use it only on break cues, but it's slightly softer than the samsara and i like the added control it gives on the break.

Juan Rios (mad man tips) makes a laminated jump break that rocks ! Give one a try and Im confident you wont be dissappointed.

Water buffallo tips also make a good break tip, but Ive switched to Madmans break tip now..

Thanks for the answer to my question. If Samsara is a good jump tip too, then we have a winner.
I will be placing an order with Atlas soon and will be sure to include some Sam's with it.
