Best made Sneaky

I'll make this easy...they ALL make the best sneaky.

Way to go Fence Sitter. Just kidding. Lisa has her favorite, I know but you opened up a huge can of Christmas worms. I would rather the be smoked oysters tho.

I don't have experience with any other than the 2 Leon Sly's sneakies that I own.
Both cocabola (as Leon calls it), and they both play wonderfully well. I couldn't ask for a
better playing cue when I use these.

Finish is about as good as they get. My second Sly sneakie is a not so sneaky, sneaky.
Everything is great on it.

Other than if you get one that is a piece of junk, as Lisa mentioned, they all make great sneakies.

Keith Josey makes a fantastic sneaky as well but I prefer forward weighted cues and the ones I've had from Keith Josey were all rear weighted.

It depends on preference.

The Joseys I've had and seen were 15"-18" balanced. I prefer 19"-22" or so.

Keith Josey will make it forward weighted if you specifically ask.

Either of them build awesome sneakies. I should have said that in my initial post.

If you want a great conversion Brent (BHQ) will make one for you, but he doesn't do points so he won't make you one unless it's a conversion.

Brent probably has the best finish I've ever seen. Keith Hanssens is awesome but Brents is nearly flawless....

LoL! Just cuttin' to the chase. Actually, I have several favorites. But so does everyone else.

I happen to like the way that Keith Josey's cues play. Also great to work with; if you call, often there is one or two already available at the shop for purchase. Super nice folks, outstanding customer service.

Keith is an AWESOME guy to work with. Really excellent playing cues.

I think I got what you were saying, mon. But that was my point, you feel the woodworth is good, but I thought the one I had was a friggin unpredictable noodle.

Asking for advice on a playing cue is silly. Like you said and the posts here agree, everybody has their own likes.

That's why they make almond joy and mounds.

That's interesting. My daily player is a Woodworth and it is a very stiff hitting cue. Osage orange forearm with a 3/8 x 10 pin. It is the only one I've ever played with and I figured they were all stiff hitting cues. Evidently not.

I forgot to mention. A few years ago, I purchased several sneakies on EBay.
They were Eliminator Brand. I sold them as resale and got 2 for free.

Now these ones were dirt cheap at the time and have gone up just a tad since.

You've probably seen others like these with different names on them. They are the sneakiest sneaky that you can get. You can barely see the line at the joint.

A little thicker shaft, I used mine for a break cue for a while. They make a good spare in the case or loner.

It makes a great bar cue if you go out and take just one with you. You can share it, it can get knocked over and it won't hurt your feelings for under 30 bucks.

It does play absolutely great as well, but, it doesn't come close to a custom sneaky.

Thats kind of nifty. I have one, one cue GTF and one aluminum Harley case.

Where I go, not bad bars but nice things still happen to disappear when yer not looking.

I'd hate to lose either one of mine.

GTF cases are AWESOME.

I use one for my fancy Sugartree even.

I like Gils 1x1 soft case though. Might buy one for my Keith Kue when I have to play at not so nice bars.

Unfortunately I play in a couple of leagues that make us go to shady bars.

Don't need anything to disappear when I'm in the bathroom.

When it rolls up in your jacket pocket, its just fine. We are pretty good on the shady bars this year but on occasion, we get some pretty shady characters in them.

I also have a 2 x 4 GTF with the side pocket. Good a deal on it. I couldn't be happier with it. I have a couple of larger ones but I think its the nicest one that I own.

Yeah my only worry then is that if I go to the bathroom someone might grab my cue thinking it's an actual house cue.

I guess that's a compliment at that point LOL

Mines not a real stiff hit, but i like a little give. 3/8 x 10 pin also. I like it so much i ordered a extra shaft from him for it. Paid more for the shaft than i did for the stick which was cool... I told him i was picky and wanted a real good well aged tight grain shaft with no mineral streaks. He sent me a beautiful shaft. Hits stiffer than heck so i don't use it much...lol
Ordered a shaft for my 60" Judd fancy sneaky. Sent him the whole stick so he could match it up perfect as i requested. Sent it back to me a month and a half later. The new shaft was 1/2 shorter, still rough and had a bump in the middle. He didn't even bother putting the final slick finish on it and the friggin taper had a bump in it...lol Had a friend finish the shaft and sold it a week later. Ordered a Scruggs Fancy sneaky with a ivory joint and 2 shafts. He sent it to me and both shafts had multiple mineral streaks in them and the forearm had a big mineral streak in it...He said he didn't use his best wood on sneakies...lol He did refund me. So there you go. I almost always buy in person now.

That's because Bob Frey made most of the Scruggs SP's.

Well, I didn't dare to write it - Thank you.

That basically means that if you go and buy a Bob Frey SP, you most likely get the same as if you buy a newer Scruggs. But for a better price.

Well, as far as the upper echelon of cues go, I remember really liking the hit of a friend's Frey sneaky, but that's all I can remember about it. I always completely forget specifics about the hit characteristics of any particular cue shortly after trying it. Either I like it or I don't, and if you ask me why, I probably wouldn't be able to tell you anything more than, "The cue feels good."

Honorable mention: Recently, I purchased a Schmelke because they do custom orders (mine was a 60-inch with a few "frills"), for what ended up coming out to a pittance (in cue-dollars at least).

Interestingly enough, thanks to my "selective" (bad) cue memory, after shooting with it and liking it, it simply gets lumped into into the "like" category, which in my mind, puts it in the company of great cues many times it's value.

Best of luck finding the right cue for you.

Sneaky Pete are?

One of my favorites of a time now past was the Bob Meucci sneaky pete.

I had one that I broke and played with for awhile. Until in my foolish brilliance decided to cut the ferrule and tenon to 3/4", that ruined the hit for me. Still had zero problem selling it at the drop of a hat.

My current new favorite is my Bob Frey, Ebony into maple. It has a Hoppe ring, so not so sneaky, but I love the style. I through it into a box case with back up piece of chalk, a cue shark, and off to the bar league with no fears.

the term sneaky pete was coined when players wanted to take a good playing pool cue into a bar/pool hall but try to fool everyone into thinking they were playing off the rack. they were also know as ' hustlers '
sneaky pete's do not have joint rings, inlays, wraps veneered points

the photos are of what old school players call sneaky pete, it was made from an old brunswick house cue, uneven points, scars in the finish, beer stains in the wood, old style bumper, no joint rings

That's it.. (Perfect)
Mcp.

Very interesting how many people are fond of the Frey sneakies. I have never shot with one, but they must be well built, everyone says positive things about his sneakies. Hit is very subjective, but from my experience Josey makes a very solid sneakie, the way they should be built.

As many if you know, and have purchased a Frey from me, Bob's sneakys are strong players. I normally don't post about Freys as I don't like to tout my own horn and say that they are great playing cues. Bob and I appreciate all the positive feedback. I get asked a lot about how the cues play and as several have mentioned before it is subjective. Everyone will have their personal favorite cue maker as it fits their style of play.
I have recently picked up a new batch and they are going quick. If you see something you like, I would not hesitate.

Here is the link and all cues with a price are still available. Otherwise it would be marked sold.
