Best Playing Cue Builder

I know this discussion is going on endlessly, but the best player to make cues is Mike Sigel. He worked with Joss Cues, won well over 100 tournaments, all games, and did build cues. Nobody else in the discussion really comes close.
I just happen to have been fortunate enuf to lay my hands on one of his original older cues. My daily at present. Hits very well.

Jack Madden I believe is in Arizona now. I have one of his cues and I love how it plays.

You should play with this cue.

Mikes ability to play, compared to Strouds ability to make cues is a much better comparison.

That's a fair point. I remember a period of time when the finish of a Stroud cue was not up to par. But that aside, they both made cues, and were both players. I guess it's debatable.

I think this is a fun and interesting discussion. The above couple of comments have me thinking another good question is who's the best all-around player/builder - obviously there's no actual way to quantify, but who has the best average between the two?

For me, the obvious front runners would be:

- Bobby Hunter
- Rick Howard
- Bill Stroud

On a tier below that would be

- Pete Tascarella
- Richard Harris

I've hit with all these cues and they're all lights out. I currently play with a Bluegrass that my wife got me, but I split time between that, Prewitt and Rick Howard cues. Below these you have guys like Mike Sigel who is obviously the best player to ever make a cue, but I've heard very mixed things about those cues. Same with Shawn Putnam, who was a great player but I'm not sure people would put his build quality with those in the list above. Or someone like Ed Prewitt, who could play some but his cuemaking ability far outshines his ability to play or Tad Kohara, who was known for player's cues with a fantastic hit who apparently never even played.

Normally, I would say Dieckman, as Best Playing Cue Builder. But today it would have to be AZBilliards member "Newsheriffintwn", as Best Playing Cue Builder. Last 2 cues I brought.... pictures doesn't do cue Justified.... they more beaute than any cue I've held.

There is no such thing as "best cue builder" as far as "playing" cues go.

Each cue is unique as far is "playing" is concerned.

I have had $10 cues that I thought "played" BETTER than some $3000 custom cues.

I have NEVER hit with a Southwest cue that I would even put in the Top 10 cues I thought had a hit I liked.

I have an old McDermott that I bought for $118 that I have turned down $1500 cash for several times after people have tried it.

I have had old one-piece Brunswick house cues that I thought played better than many custom cues.

Some cues may be "made better" or more ornate, but that doesn't always mean they "play" better.
