Best pool books

my favorite books

are Cappele's Play your best pool

definately Dr. Dave's The Illustrated Principles of Pool and Billiards

also, robert byrnes has a few good ones, such as complete book of pool shots.

Precision pool and ewa matayas idiots guide to pool round the list.

if nothing else, definately look to Cappele and Dr. Dave

Our number one seller and really good feedback is

99 Critical Shots.

I have not had ONE person complain about it after buying it.

I play at a pretty high level. At least I should again real soon. I have never been that much into one pocket, though I might try it this time around.

My main game is nine ball, but I love 14.1

Advanced Pool
and How Would you play this? by George Fels both have good sections on straight pool and are well written.

The Straight Pool Bible by Babe Cranfield and Lawrence Moy is a good read.

Phil Capelle's Play your Best Straight Pool is a nice Encyclopedia of shots and strategies for 14.1.

There are so many available. I just got the George Fels Advanced & Mastering pool.

My inbox has been full so I may not have received recent requests for the 101 Tips article. If you have not received one since requesting it, please PM me your email again.
Thanks.

If you are looking for a good story, Our fellow AZer Tom McGonagle wrote Right on Cue. I am about half way through it, so far pretty good. If your intrested you could Pm him and I bet he would sell you a signed copy.

As an employee of Barnes and Noble, I would highly suggest you call before you go if you have a particular book in mind.

Barnes and Noble keeps all their pool books in a sub-section called "Games" right next to the Poker/Blackjack books. Your particular store may have only 10 pool books onhand, but can order anything you find on the website bn.com.

You can save yourself the trip to the store and shop online. If you buy more than 25 dollars worth of stuff online, you get free shipping directly to your house.

pool being a DIY sport you do not need the instructional books to you find out you can't do this and that. for some who have natural talent they never need instructional literature but do find alot of enjoyment in the stories and fictions of the game. that is what i like, the stories. most are easy to find on all the pool sites and places like amazon.
in a recent thread about broomstick play i seen the hamster came in with an interesting short story.

so then i checked out his blog link at the bottom,
David "The Hamster" Malone
http://davidthehamstermalone.blogspot.com/

and seen this book.
Hamster Tales. i like his style and this may be the next book i buy.

I received a Barnes and Noble gift card for Christmas that is burning a hole in my pocket. What are the best pool books out there? I am mostly interested in advanced instruction, but if there are any others such as Playing Off The Rail (which I have), I might be interested in them as well.

Thanks!

Robert Byrne's books are the best. there's no comparison.

Lots of books around that are good but those 3 are great!

Play your Best Pool - Capelle
Play your Best 9-ball - Capelle (multi rail positions etc.)
Advanced Pro Book - Henning (miles ahead of Pro book)

"Right On Cue" by Tom Mcgonagle is a great pool story worthy of movie consideration. I couldn't put it down for long. It's a thrilling story about 9-ball. 9-ball logo #9.GIF Can't wait for the sequal !!!

mentioned was the "Advanced Pro Book" has anyone seen the DVD's ?

how good are they ?

i'm sure he would ! he was signing books the last time he attended the turning stone event.

is this thread limited to instruction books ? i don't see alot of mention of true stories and fictional books !!!!

checkout the books poll here and vote for what kind you like.

I have both "Pro" and "Advance Pro" DVD's they are ok.
I would rate Encyclopedia of Pool Shoots by Dr. Dave and Mastering Pool by Immonen ahead of them.

I just picked up a Capelle Straight Pool book off amazon for 20 bucks. Apparently its 416 pages? Intense.. Looking forward to digging through it and getting back into 14.1

And, you will be digging through it, pretty deep, alright. Lot of good stuff, though.
