BEST POOL TABLE ?? Diamond or this Gold Crown ???

Gold crown hands down! That 6 is a looker. I haven’t played on one yet (but have 1-5). They play jam up.

Either Table would be GREAT!

I prefer the GC6 w/ procut pockets.

Unless you know a dealer who has Diamonds in stock, they are hard to come by right now. The factory is closed.

Good Luck with your decision!

$7,500 plus $700 shipping plus the cost of a mechanic setting it up with new cloth.

That puts the total close to $9,000 and you own a table that has rubber lined pockets (vs. leather on a Diamond).

I'd pass, but thankfully everyone doesn't like the same thing.

My thoughts are buying a used anniversary or older GC.

I only have 1500 in my GC III and I would put it up against either of them.

Gold Crown!. I've got about $2,500 in my Gold Crown I including cost of the table, restoration and rail work with subrails extended/new rubber. It's the best playing table I've ever played on.

I think a survey including age demographics between Gold Crown and Diamonds would be interesting. Being a geezer growing up on GC's in halls and Valley's in bars I know what I like.

Nothing against Diamonds they might play great. But so what? A Gold Crown brings me back fifty years. That's why I have one.

Gold Crown that I once owned played better than any table I ever played on before or since. I do not especially like the diamond tables, esp. the older red labels. I also prefer a GC with at least 4 3/4 inch corner pockets; as to me, only my opinion, pro cut is for professionals- that is why it is so named. I would only want pro pockets if I was serious about wanting to become a pro, or had to compete with such pockets on a regular basis- otherwise, what are you trying to prove?

I know that I would not trade my GCI for a Diamond, and I love
Diamond tables. I have about $2500 in my GCI with modified sub-rails to properly fit current cushions, sub-rail extensions for 4 1/2" pockets, Artemis cushions, and Simonis 860. Now if we are talking about barboxes only a Diamond works for me.

Excellent point … I hear ya' brother.

Most good things that happened to me at pool and snooker in my first 20years...
...happened to me on a Gold Crown or an Anniversary...a lot of good memories.

But if you play on a Diamond....kinda makes you realize how many times you had to
jack up over a score counter, raised name plates, metal pocket moldings, and sticky pockets.
.....and slate lines sometimes.

If I had to hit a tough snooker or get tricky position for my life, I’d be better off on a Brunswick...
...but if you don’t think Diamond isn’t a better designed table, you’re dreaming.

Nearly flush pockets and no plates on a GC... I'm returning to the StarGate.

BTW, at that price you could get a Rasson Victory II. I was fortunate enough to play on one for 4 hours. I started off nearly hating it, but wound up loving it.

At that price you could also import a Star, which seems to be the most competitively used table world wide.

Right, but what is a brand new 9' Diamond price installed in your living room? Probably like 7.5-8K when all is said and done. So not too much of a difference when you look at it like that.

I will never forgive myself for not buying the cocobolo diamond table that was for sale on here years ago. With matching cocobolo light.

Should have sent a check, got in my truck and drove to Iowa to get it.

WTF was I thinking?

Ended up with a diamondwood pro table for about 3k less

Makes me sick every time I think about what a chickenshit punk I was for not pulling the trigger.

I like dreaming Paul. I'm dreaming I have an Anniversary in my Man Cave.

Six of one and half dozen of the other. There are things I like and dislike about both tables. A lot has to do with who sets them up. A good installation can make a world of a difference.

Like so many on here I grew up playing on Gold Crowns long before there was ever a Diamond. I made sure to have a GCI as the front table in every poolroom I owned. That was where the action usually took place.

An Anniversary is still my favorite table and a GC5 is probably second. I don't know much about the GC6 and how it differs from the 5.

I don't think anyone will argue that there is a difference between the way GCs and Diamonds play.
I haven't been to many tournaments lately but the ones I went to before were all playing on Diamonds.
So if you ever think you might play in a tournament other than to just have a goof, I would say Diamond, if you want the better looking table . the Brunswick is my favorite. As far as construction , I don't know, I will leave that for mechanics to discuss

Like most older gents, I played on GC's in my youth.

Having said that, I now own a diamond pro-am because from time to time I play/gamble with certain players that play on diamonds almost exclusively.

I'm already at a disadvantage when I play some of them since they play pool for a living and I'm a basement dweller most of the time. Why would I put myself in an even worse position by practicing on a gold crown and then trying to keep up with pros on entirely different equipment that they feel at home on?

Also, there's the resale value. Diamond tables hold their value way better in "MY AREA".

I guess if I didn't feel the need to compete with certain players, I would probably sell my diamond and by a GC 6 with bigger pockets.

I absolutely love playing 14.1 on gc's with factory pockets. IMO, there's no better way to enjoy pool.

Jay, I've played on a couple of gc 6 tables and I didn't notice any differences from the 5's although the gc 6 is a very, very pretty table. Then again, I don't believe I've ever seen a gc that wasn't pretty.

Like you siad, "the installer controls the playability" from table to table within the same brand. The same guy set the gc 6's and 5's up and that could be the reason they all played the same.

Also like you, I like and dislike certain things about both tables.
