Any table with drop pockets. I don't know why.
I think the sides play good. What are you comparing them to, valley? I think those sides are crap. Since the diamonds are tighter down the rail, they give you a side that takes balls. Valley is the opposite, big corners with no sides to shoot at.
Can't beat a US Open edition Diamond Pro, especially when its in my basement :thumbup2:
I have only played on Diamond pros and only 2 of them, they have both been 9 footers. Having typed that the first thing I noticed when I started playing on mine was how difficult the side pockets were compared to the 9 foot Olhausen Montrachet that I had for 14 years. I have always used side pockets as my escape route if I did not have confidence in corner shot. What I mean is I could always count on sides to take shots even difficult ones when other shots seemed iffy to me. On my Diamond (pro cut) If there is much of a angle I must bare down just as I have to on any other pocket. They can be a real b#*ch if you don't focus. It seems resonable to conclude that the sides on a 7 footer may indeed play easier.

Brunswick makes large plastic pocket liners that do not rub off on the shaft. Hold around 10 balls. Ask RKC about them. I have no problem with them.

i cant stand tables with that plastic lip that sticks up above the pocket either and i cant stand metal corners like on Valey tables there is a seam there that will mar up your cue if your not careful....ive scene guys ruin finish on nice cues this way. (i do love the look of that old Brunswick in the last page thou with all the metal trim man thats an awsome looking table
plastic buckets sound like shit when the ball falls...i dont think id beable to buy a table with plastic buckets, or even one with a ball return, no matter how nice it Played .Leather Drops are the only way to go IMO ....somthing about the way the ball sounds when you drill one into the back of the iron...or play a slow roller that falls and makes that nice Click sound when it hits the bottom of the pocket.
About Diamond tables 7footer side pockets i hate how big they are because when playing shape alot of times ill scratch in them from an impossible angle because they swallow up everything that gets near them....i just dont like scratching in the side pocket when i think "i'll never scratch from this angle"

That's a pretty sweet setup! I love Diamonds too but my single beef is that the acoustics are a little lacking. The sound the balls make when they slam into the pockets is just a little too muted. It's one of the things I like best about the Kim Steels. They just sound soooo good.
Meanwhile, here's another gem:
This is a tough question for me to answer... When I think of all the different tables I've played on over the years. Diamonds of course for their sturdiness, solid as a rock. The big "G" tables from Gandy, not the best construction but man, did I love the sound they made when the ball struck the back of the pocket. Another table that pops into my head was the Lemacher (sp?) these tables had the deepest pockets (vertical) I've ever seen. You could play one pocket and never have to worry about a ball coming out because the pocket was to full. As for the game of 3-cushion definitely, without a doubt a Verhoeven.

please forgive the quality of the pictures. i took them late last night and i wasn't up to the task. this table has been written about more than a few times here on az. it a gcV located in the pool room in duluth ga. built by az member mark gregory. the sub rails have been extended to make the corners - i believe (but not sure) - 4.25" and i'm really not sure about the sides. all i can say is they are tight. if mark sees this maybe he will elaborate on some of the details. the pictures really don't do this table justice, it's beautiful and plays like a beast. the tournament edition gold crown in the background is no slouch either. just two more reasons why i like shooting at a lot of rooms in the atlanta area, but i call the pool room home.
The Diamond Pro Am is the best I've ever played on.

Best table ever is the Diamond Pro Am in my livingroom that has Simonis 860 HR on it. RealKingCobra leveled it and recovered it last December. The table plays absolutely perfect!
