Who does the best Titlist conversions...?

And while we are on the subject (since I've never hit with one), what are the playing characteristics? I understand the history/nostalgia attraction, just not sure what they offer in terms of performance over a contemporary custom cue. Is it about the full-splice design? Better wood?

i have seen a few that steve lomax has done and they look and hit great. he showed me some that he hasnt re-done yet and the handles of the cues are very thick. he says thats the way people used to play with them so i guess that thick and solid of wood contributes to the performance. im sure there are other cue makers that also do a great job with them, but steves are the only ones i have seen in person. hope this helps.
 
I have had several including a Searing conversion...Pete Ohamn is going to do the next 2 soon. I'd like to know who does this coversion the best in peoples opinion too...for future reference.

Voodoo~~~guess this means I should play pool more with these cues coming, huh?
 
I saw 3 at the DCC that Andy Gilbert had just finished. Absolutely stunning work. They were dressed up with some very nice ring work and a Hoppe ring thrown in on one.
 
Best is like Beauty it depend who you are talking to.

The best I have ever seen was shown here a couple years ago. Madison Bob did a conversion and it was better than I ANY I have seen by ANY MAKER.

I am not a huge MB fan, but the one he did was outstanding.

Better than GINA, SCHICK, GILBERT, BLACK, or anyone else.

Truely amazing cue.

I will be receiving my Conversion from Alex Brick sometime in April and
expect it to be a real knock-out, as with every other Cue he has made
for me in the past several years.
 
What is the advantage of a titlist conversion? If a cue maker does not use the titlist blank does it make the blank from scratch by himself?
 
I have had a few my favorites right now are Gincue, Shick, Bob hunter and Mike Stacey plus a few others.

Titlist although they are nostalgic do have a very nice solid hit.

Titlist Conversions are made from old Brunswick Titlist one piece cues.

Check out the Palmer Collector here on AZ, he has a great page with the Titlist history

I play with a Titlist with a Brass Joint and am very pleased. My current player was converted by Jerry-R.

He has many fans here on AZ. Mines made to the specs of a Gus Szamboti cue, has a little bit thicker butt section than the modern cues.

I had a Titlist converted by Bert Schrager that was nice, it had an Ivory Joint and a radial pin, it was a very solid hitting cue also but to light for my taste.

I've seen many here on AZ converted by the names mentioned and they all look great.

Something to look for when you do find one is to make sure the points line up. I've seen quite a few that don't.

Points not lining up may not affect playability but when you want something perfect it is a concern.

Recently I came across a Wayne Holmes conversion, flat faced steel joint, radial pin. The cue hits just super for what I want and the construction is outstanding. Brunswick used many types of hardwood in making titlist plus constructed full sliced. Just the use of different woods they used can produce a certain hit. Some of the conversions done also use modern shafts that produce a certain hit. Then you have to look at the pins used, the joint materials, the tips and etc.. Best thing to do is find someone with a conversion and try it. I think it all comes back to WHAT YOU FEEL is best.

If you can find one by Gus Szamboti, buy it. It'll cost plenty, but those are among the finest cues ever made. GF

Andy has done some really great ones. He is making me a real special Titlist conversion right now that will be AWESOME....I can't wait. Will definitely post pics in the gallery when it's done. It will be unlike any other !!

I've been wanting to try a conversion. I've seen many nice ones from many different makers. On just a hunch (founded on his excellent reputation), Wayne Holmes will be the cuemaker I'll contact when I eventually do a conversion.

Spain conversions > Titlist Conversions?

At least from what I've heard, people lined up to buy Burton's blanks because they were superior to blanks Brunswick was turning out.
 
The only one I've ever played with was a Buss conversion. It wasn't mine, but it hit very nicely.
