best way to keep weight off an ebony full splice?

spliced

I was trying to come up with a good way to keep an ebony blank full spliced without splicing in a new handle. This is what I came up with. The handle is basically just a really long maple buttsleeve. Good idea?

I would core the cue and install a .750 Maple dowel myself.

isn't that what Davis does as well.i would plug the butt with Maple.

Maybe a dumb question...

Can it also be plugged with coco or purpleheart?

Or would that defeat the purpose

it would basically defeat the purpose.the PH might help a little, but the Coco isn't too far off Ebony.

Coco's acid produces more squirt.
I swear.

Best way

Not if you soak it in Pepto-Bismol first. And it adds a nice pink tone to the wood.
Seriously. I vote for the plug.

How deep and how wide you core the thing depends on how heavy you want it , and where you want the balance point. Between the aforementioned variables, and the weight of the hardware at the joint, you should have a bit of leeway.

IMHO - this method would not retain whatever it is you think
you are retaining about the full splice.

If your goal is to keep a fullsplice blank fullspliced, while changing it
as drastically as you seem to want to for weight reduction,
I don't think it can be done.

Whatever you do is going to change it dramatally.

If you MUST have the lower weight, several good solutions
have already been proposed.

Well, if you want something like the proces you described,
take a look at Denali Cues, mr. Flynn is making me something very similar to that.

Edit: Just noticed this is the cuemaker section, which I am not.
