Best Worst Quote EVER from an APA League Operator

So I asked a local APA league operator if we could do a tournament at a local pool room just for APA players in our league and add $2,000 to the prize fund and use there APA handicaps. We just wanted the support and approval from the LO for the event.

The LO tells me, NO we can not. I asked why. He said, "we don't want our players getting used to playing for money". My jaw hit the floor and I was stumped then I just laughed my ass off feeling sorry for the poor APA league suckers.

Is that just stupid or what?

Do it anyway and expose the league operator's comment. Oh, by the way don't discriminate the non APA players. Let them play too!

"Even if your team wins, I am going to forfeit you" Denton county league operator when we were playing to get into the city finals. Instead he moved 2 of out players up making it impossible for us to field a full team.

That's not an APA thing, that's a jackass thing

Our local League Operators are very supportive of unofficial tournaments (i.e., APA players in non-APA events), which all have varying degrees of payout. Absolutely we're used to playing for money. I have no idea what your LO was talking about.

did he give you a reason, or was that just out of the blue?

lots of tournaments around here... the local APA site lists the locations, formats, etc. If the bars support them by fielding leagues out of them, the APA operator returns the favor

Years ago I ask when I was think of playing in an APA League. What percentage of the Weekly Dues is paid back to the Players at Seasons End. There was a moment of silence, than the guy replied someone about was that really important. I said yes, you should be able to answer a simple question, and the I HUNG UP!

that's gotta be a strictly local attitude .
I've played in several regional "dream team" tourneys with 5 figure prize pools. . . better odds than Vegas nationals , just don't have the "National Champion" braggin rights !

Bruce...If I were that APA LO, I would have given you a simple answer... "None! It's not a payback league!"...and then hung up on you.

No it is not stupid, he is telling the truth and admitting that there is no money for the players to be made by playing in the APA.

Best Quote from an APA LO

Here's my personal favorite...of course it came from me: "Is it worth it to you to pay me $1 a week for a fun, fair, safe environment, with an honest chance to advance to a national tournament?" The overwhelming answer from over 700 players was "Yes!". Sportsmanship was a big focus in my league area, and the players supported it.

Our LO has singles tournaments, but other than the cities it is only for 6s and under or 5s and under....can't remember which because I just know that I can't play. Wish they would have higher SL tournaments.

Asking to add $2000 to the prize fund is where the conversation went south to begin with, APA or no APA.

If that's how he honestly feels, why do you have a problem with it. He just told you he wants to take the money aspect OUT of pool(read "gambling" as that's what it amounts to). He's telling you is he wants to break away from the part of the game that has been it's curse for generations. He's telling you a "cleaner" image will bring in the patrons that will give his league legs. He doesn't care about you and your added prize money because all that'll do is bring in the sandbaggers anyway. He knows where the money's at. Sounds like a smart guy to me.

Wow, you could be right but then I guess if he wanted to take the money aspect out of pool then he shouldn't charge soo much for fees and weekly dues and kerp such a BIG percentage of it,
huh?
