**BEWARE**Another AZ deadbeat

Can we fix this?

This seems to be a bad trend getting worse.

Over all, lets not toot our own horns, but for the most part, in spite of being pool players we're all pretty good guys. However, as in any community there is a bad element.

There are enough of us that live in every part of this country to sort of be a "self policing" community. This a503 guy, I was more then willing to give him the benefit of the doubt the first time, I don't know him, I don't know his situation and so this happens once maybe I write it off to a bad series of events and some miscommunication, but twice makes him part of the bad element.

We know this guys name and address, if it's me and he has jerked me around and lives in the same town as me I would likely go to his house, but as our business among each other is normally done across state lines that may not always be an option.

He appears to be an APA player, if maybe some of our members in Oregon could reach out to the LO in his part of Oregon perhaps they could find him on a league night and request some sort of explanation, or maybe they know people that know people...

Either way, the idea is not to be violent or threatening, but just on behalf of the billiard community maybe ask why did this happen and how can we fix it.

I think that in "normal" society pool isn't seen as a mainstream sport, a lot of the reason is, I feel, because it's seen as being full of cheaters, gamblers, liars, smoke filled-liquored up slobs. We know this isn't always the case, but in order to clean up the image at large, maybe we ought to start by cleaning our own house.

Let see if if we can find a503's motivation, perhaps after a series of unfortunate events he's just to embarrassed to approach this community, or, maybe it's just time he gets his comeuppance.

Either way, I feel like we're entitled to an explanation

Hm so i just checked out the forum where he made a thread and well me being new here, it amazes me how there are so many people that goes out their way to donate to this guy. it amazes me even more that even after all those donations he would screw someone. o.O Sadly enough there will always be people like him in this world but do remember there will always be the good as well. Hopefully there is a way to solve this problem in the future.

Dan I will chip in another $10 for your loss! Please give me your Paypal address again! I like your style!

I couldn't agree with this post more...

I think people like this guy are one of the main reasons that pool/billiards is looked down upon by the masses.

I would second that you reach out to the LO of the APA in his area and at least inform them of what has happened.

I do enjoy reading about all the nice things people try to do on here to help a fellow enthusiast who is going through a hard time. But there needs to be measures put in place to stop the dishonest ones from spoiling the bunch, because there are a few that really do need and deserve some help.

I think if someone is looking for handouts and we as a community want to help them out then maybe we should find a reputable person in that general area to oversee that our generosity isn't being taken advantage of. That maybe easier said than done in some cases and might be more trouble than what it's worth but there has to be some way to police it.

I usually don't post on these types of threads but liked what Celophanewrap had to say.

Let's get these types of people out of here!

Jim

Here is a link to the original thread where a503 was asking for pool related donations for his "team captain".

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=299592

IMO, even IF the guy had originally planned to follow through with a trade of a couple of Kamui tips for the extension from Dan, there is a high probability that the tips came from a previous donation made to his "team captain"....that is just an opinion.

Joe

Sorry fellas...this guy's original post about his team captain's gift situation (or lack thereof) had red flags all over....let this be a lesson to all of us.

With so many folks jumping on this forum any more these days...the only people I do business with are the members who have history and positive rep/feedback on the forum. And even then there are no guarantees so... seller/buyer beware.

Is it the economy?

It seems like more cheats are appearing on the Forum than in the last 2 years. It's becoming commonplace and lends itself to being pretty skeptical. I read where Fourkingcues has started an escrow service. Obviously you can't use escrow except when more highly valued items are involved since escrow runs about $100.

Anyone buying a high end cue involving lots of money should probably use escrow since nowadays it's hard to determine who's going to try and screw you. Some sellers overreach in their description of the cue and a common pitfall is when a question arises after a cue purchase about the shafts being straight or having any roll.

The last thing any cue buyer wants to experience after spending a lot of money for the cue is for the seller to subsequently tell you after you've inspected the cue that the shafts are straight in their opinion and any "slight" roll doesn't affect play......DUH? You know there's going to be a squabble whenever that happens.

If I buy a cue and ask if the shafts are straight and the seller responds "yes" and then the shafts aren't, the last thing I want is to debate the topic with the seller. Now fortunately there's only been a few incidents reported like that but it does nonetheless unfortunately occur.

Using a 3rd party escrow like fastn'loose or fourkingcues is a option that obviates that possibility. However, when items are bought/sold that do not justify using escrow because of the price, dishonest sellers and buyers should be broadcasted throughout the Forum so others can avoid getting needlessly screwed by these scam artists.

the only thing worse than a thief is a DUMB thief

lets jubilate that he blew his cover on a low end item

to the OP...you have an excellent attitude and tks for sharing

I am good friends with the folks who run the APA and the BCA here in town. I'll ask around about him. I'll find out what bar he plays out of and make a huge seen, letting everyone know what a dick he is.....

Unless.....

He comes on here and make things right....

I PM'd him letting him know to set things right.

You go cbi! Don't take any APA crap from him. Maybe he'll introduce you to his captain, ask him about his birthday...

He'll just get a new screen name and start over. People like this never really leave when they find a place where they can take advantage of people.

I love to see peoples names smeared on this site and others picking it up locally. I did a trade locally with a fellow APA member that now insists possession is 9/10ths of the law with a cue of mine. As luck would have it most of the league matches in my area are had at a chain of bars owned by a personal friend, as well as the local pool hall also being owned by a buddy. This leaves him with 2 choices in town of where to play pool and hes already been 86ed from one.

Best of luck with the local group finding him. I hope the 10 bucks costs him the ability to play all over town.

feedback.??

I left him bad feedback..Negative I-Trader.. It probably won't make him do the right thing but it will stop him from doing it to one of you too..

Update...

Here is the PM I just got from him.. We'll wait and see if he comes thru..If he does I will let everyone know..
First off, let me apologize I have been without internet and I have also had a lot of personal issues and an illness in the family that took precedence over everything else in my life. I had no intention of not making good on my end of the deal, in fact I thought you had received the tips. I hadn't logged in since that day I sent the pm stating that I was sending out your tips. There is no reason I would try to scam someone out of a 35 dollar item. My teammate really likes the extender by the way. I will send out another set of tips on Monday and will make sure to get delivery confirmation this time. Once again, I sincerely apologize but I had no idea this was even going on. I thought that I.received email notifications when pm's were sent but that is not the case.

Ill provide the tracking number by Tuesday as I'm accessing this from a friend's house and I don't have a smartphone right now.

So sorry again.
Michael.
