Beware of member Brain71

Beware or doing business with member Brain71 I started a thread stating that I wanted an old style Gulyassy Sledgehammer break cue. I had other members that offered me one for $150. Brian71 texted me and said he would sell me his for $125. I agreed to the price and asked him for a paypal address. He stated that he would only accept payment in the form of a postal money order. I sent him the postal money order certified mail. I received a package today. The only thing in the package was a Sledgehammer BUTT. I contacted him via text and asked where the shaft to the cue was. He then informed me that he was only selling the butt. He says that he sent me a text stating that. I never got it. I pointed out that my thread was for a cue - not just a butt. I then told him that I was not satisfied with the deal. I told him just to send me a money order refunding my money and I will return the butt to him. He said; "Right now that it's not going to happen. I just lost my job and I need the money. That's why I sold it."

I asked if since he stated "Right now it's not going to happen", if he intended to refund it later. Now he won't return a message...

I guess I got screwed. I thought that we could reverse the deal and make things right. He apparently figures that I don't need to be made whole due to his situation. He didn't ask about mine. I don't have money to throw away either. I got hurt at work and am currently on worker's comp. They don't pay much.

I don't really know how to proceed except to make others on here aware to be careful in you dealings with him. Anyone that has ever done business on here with me knows that I am VERY easy to deal with - and payment is immediate. In the event that there is a trade deal - shipping is immediate. And I have never had a bad deal on my end.

Anyone want to chime in?

People always remark when it is butt-only. If he didn't, he's pretty lame and a con at that. I hope everyone boycotts dealing with him in the future. I also hope he gets banned unless he sends the shaft along or cuts you a price break in the form of a partial refund or full refund.

How come when I search for member Brian71 nothing comes up ........ that's because the user name is Brain71

bad deal

Everyone please feel free to do a search using my username and what my thread stated. It's pretty clear. I don't know what the hell I would want half a cue for. I think it would be pretty tough to break with just that...

Usually I try to limit buying/selling things from well established reputed members and who are frequent traders. But no matter how much research you do or who you deal with, in reality this can happen to anybody.
All you can do is inform other people about it so that they don't get scammed.
Good thing is you didn't loose "a lot" of money.

This part is not true. Had the buyer paid the seller, whom he didn't know, with PayPal funded my a credit card, he would be whole already.

trust

I figured that he was a silver member with substantial itrader. He has 72. The way I do business is that the deal isn't done until both parties have received their payment or item and are satisfied.

That being said - if there was a misunderstanding, and he takes steps to rectify the situation - I will be on here telling everyone. I will yell it from the rooftops if he wants. I just want things to be square and right. He still has an opportunity to preserve his reputation. You all will be the first to know.

Big mistake on his part to prefer a Postal money order.

Contact Postal Inspection Service in your area. That is textbook mail fraud.

Not to say that this possible misunderstanding and miscommunication is not "textbook mail fraud", but I will say that in my 7 years as a member here, and after reading countless "he ripped me off I sent him a postal money order" threads, I have yet to read of even one situation that was resolved to the buyer's satisfaction through US Postal Inspectors.

You assumed he would do business the way you do.

How's that working out for you?

Why be a douche and rub it in? Oh, because you do in EVERY one of these threads......how about you stick with the cats and silverware:thumbup:

Hey Brain71....refund this guys and money and take the butt back and I'll Paypal you a free $125 bucks:eek:........so instead of rubbing it in, ill try and help the situation...

misspelled username

Just to let everyone know - I misspelled his username. It should be Brain71 - I have gone back and edited it. My bad.

Does the cue have a 3/8x10 pin? If so let me know the joint size and I'll send you a shaft. Not a Sledgehammer shaft but a nice break shaft none the less and you will be able to at least use the cue.

That Stakehorse is a good man:thumbup: nice job helping the situation instead of making the guy feel like a jack off cause he didn't use a paypal account backed by his neighbors, daughters, son in laws, maternal grandmas, older second cousins, landlords, pimps, life coaches credit card......

Now back to cat and silverware porn

Nice move Horse. I was thinking the same thing since I have many extra shafts laying around.

shaft

Thanks guys. If anyone can find a shaft that is actually a Gulyassy for an old sledge I would accept it for sure. I would like to keep it original because I know they hit hard. The reason I wanted one is because I bought a BK3 and didn't like it... It is the 3/8/10 radial pin on this butt that he sent me. If I get a shaft for this thing - I will let the guy off the hook. It probably was a misunderstanding. Like I said - the deal is done when both parties are happy.
