Big Action Still In Progress! John Barton vs Justin Marks!

Lou and JB woofed at each other for a very long time before that match ever took place.

Lou's team flew him to NJ and staked him.

JB bet his own.

As soon as Lou won I tried to get him to go again; had the $10k to stake JB in my Orvis bag. Lou said his team will discuss it but soon after that they filed out and were gone. Lou said later in a post here on az that they felt uncomfortable in an unfamiliar establishment (to them - Sandcastle) holding $20k cash.

I don't necessarily blame them for thinking like that but sure would have liked to see them go again.

best,
brian kc

A couple of corrections, Brian:

My team did not fly me to NJ. I paid for my air, hotel, rental car, and meals.

And while I am willing to grant that you had money on site and may have said something vague about "running it again," in the frenzy of the moment I did not take you seriously and never said I'd discuss it with my team BECAUSE if I had, we would have been all over it and were prepared with the cash to double the bet.

Yes. We were uncomfortable holding $20K in a strange room (though we actually had more than that on us). But the money I was talking about was strictly our side and our winnings -- it had zero to do with playing again nor another bet.

You and I have been over this before *in detail* -- if need be I will attempt to dig up the thread -- so why you're altering critical particulars of the story now is beyond me.

This match was held at my room on Saturday and Sunday. All in all it was for more than $10K I can assure you of that. Day one saw John getting out ahead 4/1 and Justin bringing it back to 7/6 and as the night concluded John was up 11/9. Sunday they were supposed to start at 2PM but Justin came late and they started at 4:30 and he came back firing although playing very slowly and the match finished up at 1:30 with Justin winning 15/12. IMO John had some great opportunities to win the match and the score does not indicate how close the games actually were. It was fun to host the two combatants and on day two Justin began wearing ear plugs. I think he couldn't handle John's commentary and maybe that made the difference. I didn't know John before the match began but I can say for sure he's an OK guy with a lot of pride and willing to gamble it up. He can turn a $50 dollar better into a $500 dollar better than anyone I know.

Do you know if the entire match is on youtube or anywhere else for viewing?

The portion that was on youtube where JM was ahead 12 to 11 to the finish line didn't appear competitive

THANKS, adam

Wonder if JB's wife and family think losing all that money is a good trade for all the "heart" it gives him (whatever that is).

I think he has a gambling problem, like lots of pool players.

I met JB's wife. She is a happy women and very supportive of him.
By the way, family should be left out of these threads imo.

Lou has a lot more heart than JB.

Lou has the heart to continue logging in to AZB and turning every thread into a recap about a girl fight he had once.

lol, though the sentiment you express is far from accurate I’m sorry you feel that way. So please, tell the guy standing behind you holding a gun to your head forcing you to read everything I write to go ahead and pull the trigger.

Lou Figueroa
problem solved :-)

He's a west coast Cali player who doesn't really travel. He's played and done well on the mezz west state tour.

Jaden

Well, Justin did travel to China a few years back for a big Chinese 8 ball tournament, I forget which one. And he traveled to Oklahoma last year to play JB the first time. He came out winner in that one too. This whole Justin/JB thing started as an aiming system argument on Facebook. JB got mad and tried to bark and high roll Justin on a gambling match, and Justin flew to Oklahoma and said bet.

My definition of heart is two fold

1.. Someone with the courage to get up and play
(possibly but not always betting his own money)

2 another definition of heart is someone who holds up for the money.
Someone who usually shows some courage under fire
Not the fella who becomes weak as a kitten

(Even though this happens to us all from timeto time)

3 A third ,but in my opinion false use of the word heart is used
as a term of reproach for an idiot who continues playing
long after he should have quit

ie ..a fella showing poor judgement. This is not heart it is stupidity

I really don't know Lou or anything about him,He may be a boy scout
and a stand up guy,

I am sure he is,I think he said that somewhere in one of his rants,so
it must be so

I would not say that Lou showed a lot of heart ,playing a game with 3
balls the best of it and still couldn't get a stake horse to play a second time

Now I don't know but if I saw this occur where a fella was offered the
nuts and no one would stake the game, I would conclude he had a reputation
as a dog or a dump artist and that would explain
why no one would back him.

Now I am not referring to anyone alive or on planet earth especially not Lou
we know he is a $20 player who rose to the occasion in heroic proportions

,but If someone were to offer Billy Stroud the nuts, I would be rushing to bet on him
Unless he is as senile as I am

When Jack Potter chose to support a family instead of playing and was
forced to keep his bets relatively low and I had an opportunity to put him in the box for $5000

My only concern was beating others to the rail

Since I was not the only one to do so,I conclude that Jack had the heart of
the water buffalo,
also it never occurred to me that he would give anything less than his best

I do remember losing bets like this, but it didn't stop me from trying again

Heart should be a term of endearment, funny how it is used to describe a
stake-horse who keeps firing away after all hope is gone.
It is a lack of heart to either play or stake a game with the idea of quitting if you
lose a game or two and quit as a normal practice

However it might be proper to add,"It is better to win than show a lot of heart"

In my opinion John Barton is the best thing happening in pool today,he works
is successful and loves action,he doesn't ask for the nuts in fact he might even
try to outrun the nuts

I say John has a lot of heart,he might have lost a time or two but that doesn't
make him a loser

He is the kind of guy who just might kick start the dead pool world that we
all see today

He proves you don't need to be a great player to compete

My opinion is if I get the opportunity to play John for a significant amount
,is that everyone in the pool world will travel by air ,car ,or sea to be there

I once played Harry P in Tahoo during the world championship 9 ball

600 or more people crowded around our table watching while 6 people
watched the World Champion 9 ball finals Neither Harry or I played good
,but the action brought forth excitement

it would be the kind of action that breathes life into a dying pool economy

Everyone would like to play the winner,or the loser

Match up or shut up expresses the way I see it

No offense meant.

I actually look forward to criticisms of John Barton, not that they make any sense but

It is a freedom of expression,a whiner should have the right to win ,complain and run
stuff like that is entertaining in its own way

I'd like to play some with John if no one else wants to. I haven't had a pool game in a few years and I'm a little rusty (haven't hit two balls in the last three months!), but I'm up to play if he wants to.

The old "I haven't been playing" hook! LOL

Never been in the Scouts.

But everyone who knows me, and isn't just speculating pulling theories out of thin air like you are, knows I'm a standup guy and that you couldn't get me to dump under any circumstances. As to the dog part, I suppose I have as much pooch in me as the next guy.

As to getting staked, I have three solid gold offers, from different parts of the country and also here in St. Louis, for full funding anytime I want it.

I told John a long time ago that since I traveled to his chosen destination for the first match he could come pay me a visit at mine if we could work out a game. I don't need his dough, I will not travel to him again, and it is not worth it to me to put up with his baloney any other way. Jeez, the last guy had to put ear plugs in, lol.

That sums it up for several people. It’s funny watching everyone getting a stiffy reliving this like it’s the best Prom EVER. Blah blah blah

The dude does make a great case.

……..and that's how its done!!

An aiming discussion started this one?? This is some funny sh!t. Who said pool is dead?? It’s not dead, there’s just too many high school girls in it. And I’m not talking about the hot ones that were always banging the loser college freshman, I’m talkiing about the insecure ones that drank two beers and cried at parties.

Carry on, we will vote for the Prom King and Queen once we hit twenty pages. Shouldn’t be long!
