BIG Congrats To Mike Dechaine For Winning The 2014 Ginky Memotial!!!

Congrats Mike on the win, but they are suppose to play even, not one guy getting 2 on the wire. Need to go back to get beat 2 sets playing even or one long race11 to 13 playing even. JMO. Johnnyt

There were no games on the wire involved.

It was a race to eleven. Mike was the guy in the hot seat, and the rules announced prior to the event, were that if the guy in the hot seat got to eleven games before the loser's bracket winner, the final would not be extended. As Mike got to eleven before Mika, the extended race rule was irrelevant, and Mike finished the event undefeated.

Your opinion is based on the lack of the facts. You should shut the fu^k up if you are ignorant of what's going on!

Luther Lassiter used to color his ferrule RED.

aaaaaaaaaand... here comes the next fad.

Luther Lassiter used to color his ferrule RED.....I've seen a few players over the years use different colors, not sure why, I'd guess simply for contrast (with the white cue ball).

It's been around forever, it's just easier to see your cue tip placement to the cue ball. Bob Frey makes me ferrules in black linen micarta. Offers great contrast & a solid hit.

The final was a race to 11 for Mike D because he was in the hot seat and 13 for Mike because he came from the one loss side. That's a handicap or playing not even or Mike getting 2 on the wire. If they played the traditional 2 sets to 8 maybe Mika would have one both sets. I believe Mika got to 8 first but not 100% sure, so please don't yell at me and call me names as it hurts me so much. Or they could have played one race to 13 that Mika could have one. No big deal. I like Mike and Tony R and his team does a great job and Steinway is doing a lot for pool. Johnnyt

Once again, you are mistaken. Had Mika Immonen gotten to eleven first, the match would have become a race to thirteen for both of them, not just for Mika. There was no possible way for the winner of the match to be anyone other than the guy who won more racks. Had they chosen true double elimination, it would have made no difference, as Mike won the first race.

Mika Immonen is a future hall of famer who has won everything under the sun. He'll rightly be remembered as a legend of the game. Still, Mike has beaten Mika in their last two encounters, once in the Quebec event two weeks ago and now in the Ginky Memorial. Right now, Mike Dechaine is playing just a bit better than Mika. It has become a nice rivalry between two phenomenal players, and we can all look forward to their matches against each other in the future.

Back in the mid 1990s, Jeff Carter advised me to use a black sharpie on the outer perimeter of my tip in order to increase contrast. I've been doing it ever since.

Do you have any idea what shaft he was using? I know he me sponsored by OB now, but the ferrule was black. Just wondering because I've never seen an OB shaft with a black ferrule like that.

Mike plays with an OB-1 shaft. He did color the wooden ferrule black as mentioned previously, he prefers the look of the black ferrule to the natural wood.

Could be an idea to sell the OB1 shaft with a stained black ferrule... same performance.
