Who was the biggest underdog to win it..has there even been one.

How about the player with the least amount of skill to pull it off...

Tommy Kennedy in 92 he's the only player who was unranked at the time to win it I believe

Tommy K gets my vote as well. What a super guy he turned out to be!

Runners up, in my opinion, are Mike LeBron in 1988 (beat Varner) and Reed Pierce in 1995 (beat Reyes).

Tommy K. That was a joy to watch, and he and Archer at the end was priceless. What a couple of true gentlemen.

Tommy also gets my vote. Greatest personality in the game also. Tommy is a good person on top of having a killer break and a killer game.

Definitely Tommy K! Not to mention he beat Archer like 9-1!! You think Archer made a bet with the house bookie??? lol!!Good pool ball juggler too...=))

HAHAHA you can't help but keep smiling at TK. Everytime he looks into the camera he has a huge SMILE on his face lol.

what about rodney morris? it was his first pro tournament and he won it beating efren in the finals??!!

This is not accurate. Rodney Morris played the entire PBT schedule in 1996 leading up to the US Open, including posting a win at the PBT Puerto Rico Event shortly before the US Open. In fact, the US Open, then a PBT event, was his second consecutive PBT title.

Rodney came into the 1996 US Open red hot, and his win didn't surprise too many.

You could make an argument for John Schmidt

A 400 ball runner? compared to TK, who damn near nobody had ever heard of? Not in the same league, imo.

True that.
Beat Andam in PR then another Filipino master Efren.
Rodney played with Szamboti then.

TK gets my vote too.

TK from FLA! He wasn't a total unknown, since he had been playing in tournaments for a few years. Tommy was a good player but a champion, NEVER! His U.S. Open win is like when Keith Thompson beat everyone to win at Johnston City back in 1970. Just goes to show that a good shortstop can get hot and upset a great player. What's a lot harder to do is to stay hot.

If you've followed his career you know that Tommy was no flash in the pan. He has won numerous regional events and finished high in several majors.

When I think of TK, the word "shortstop" is not really my first thought. I hope you meant back then, as I rarely disagree with your opinions:smile:

Actually Rodney played in the 1994 and 1995 U.S. Opens coming in 9th and 5th places respectively.

I think Reed Pierce was a heavy underdog, I'll give my vote to him. I also don't think alot of people expected Gabe Owen to win the year he did, although he went on to win quite a bit afterwards.

Thanks for the Archer vs. TK video. Its so nice to see Archer play without taking 10 minutes on every routine shot and picking at the cloth like he wants to take it off the table.
