I know some Pool Players S T R E A C H the truth, but the other day a guy who play from time to time where i mostly play told a WHOPPER IMO.

He plays with what appears to be an Old Hoppie (Rambo), so I mention may he should restore it to have something really nice.

Well he says it is an original Rambo from the 1800’s, and point to what appear to be two initials carved it the butt section “HR”, and say the cue is worth about enough money to by the BEST NEW Porsche .

I say to myself BULLS**T. Or could it be worth that much.

Anyone have any Real ideas as to what an old Rambo is worth in Real Dollars? ;)

Rambow did not start making cues until the 1940's or 50's (someone please tell us after checking the Blue Book), so this story is a tall tale. There are some cues that you could trade for the best new Porche, but I have not seen or heard of a Rambow worth that much. There is a cue made by Rambow that was given as a gift from Willie Mosconi to Jackie Gleason (who played Fats in The Hustler). It had a large price tag, but was under $50k.

Well that 1940's, 50's thing is a nice piece of information, so the next time i run into the Teller of Tales. I can give it to him & tell him he is Full of SHIT.... :)

Yeah, don't take my word for it though... find out exactly... the Blue Book will tell you. Maybe it is not a Rambow... could be something very old and valuable.... Could be. But then, why would he be banging balls around with it?

Considering the best new porsche is a Carerra GT that starts at $440,000 I think it's bullshit...lol. I've seen cues listed at $200,000 on classic cues but not even close to this. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who would drop half a mil on one cue me thinks!

Biggest lie in pool today is this, " It hits like a South West ".
Bullcrap. One maker's nephew was hocking his cues one time at a pool hall and started claiming the cues hit like SW.
I know two brands popularly believed ( after the makers made this claim) this even the joint size in their cues is .840" and their butts have a single taper. SW has a joint size of around .870" and have a dual/compound taper.
For their cues to hit like a SW would be a miracle.

This doesn't have much to do with cues, well a little, but I played this guy about 2 or 3 weeks ago for $20 in game of 9 ball race to 11 (im a high roller :D). He told me that he qualified and placed high in the Taiwanese National Championships a few years back. We played and I beat him 11-3. He never made a run higher then 5 balls, and he only did it once in the match. Secondly every time he hit the cue ball harder than a medium shot I thought he was going to fall down. After he lost he said that hes not good at playing with a house cue. Ive seen players play below their speed but this was little bit of a stretch, especially considering the depth of talent in Taiwan. Also one of my good friends beat him also, we are A- players.

Not the biggest lie but certainly one of the more common is “I put myself through college playing pool” Usually by someone who hardly knows which end of the cue to hold.

that the omega dpk's were built to hit red dot cb's.,,,,as told by a well known bca certified instructor. more idiocy than outright lie.

biggest lie?

I was driving over the road-lower 48 states-my schon and i did get to hardtimes-bellflower, high pockets-milwaukie, both cue-masters(sp?), both chattanooga billiards clubs, a couple of rooms in san fran(Chalkers and i believe The Great Billiards Emporium(is that the right name?)) billiards and bagels-gresham,oregon, and several other fine rooms. At a terminal in ontario, california another company driver and i were talking. Pool came up and he told me had been florida champion a year or so back.
we ended up going to Diamond Bar Sports Bar where he did not do too well. i am not high speed but i did sort of dominate him and all the others i played there(top players were not around) that day:) . i ended up telling him about 99 critical shots and robert byrne's books and videos. i am afraid he really got exposed for what he claimed that day. a stewardess was there and she could shot better than he. .i believe she told me she had three schons and was looking for a TAD. he did not bring up florida champion anymore. remember guys and gals i never said i was a top or high speed player.

IMO a SW hits more like a SW than any other Q. Std joint sizw is apprx .830. SW301-93

I'll pay you next time I see you.....

For all the people that have told me this lie...... I would prefer that I never get paid...

It may not have been the biggest lie but it is definately one of the most common.
