Have any members watched a BIG MONEY game of pool ? I mean upwards of $ 100,000. or more. Please recall where ,when and players or gamblers involved. There should be some great stories!!!

Wish I did, would love to have rail birded one. I rail birded a 9-ball race to 11 for $3k at Hardtimes, it was late one Friday evening and hardly anyone was still there. Game went a little past close. I still remember that table length jump shot over a full-ball using a house cue with draw for near perfect position.

Most I've ever actually seen with my own eyes was $5000 a set 9-ball.
I've always heard a lot of stories by shortstop level players about how they played for $5000 and $10,000 a set or $1000 a game against good players and yet the most I'd ever see them play for is a $500 set of 9 ball one time and they're so nervous they're almost shaking. So I'm skeptical of a lot of stories concerning big money sets.

I'm thinking using the word "skeptical" may be being generous.

A decent player had a FRIEND that was rich but couldn't play dead.

Rich man, who always played with one of his several BUSHKA'S, would drop in at the player's house (brought an 8-ball, whiskey, beer, etc.) and they would spend Saturday's (apprx 8am until whenever) partaking and playing pool on the players antique 5x10' Brunswick. Started at a dolla a game, doubled up, and would quit even. One Saturday the tab got to 64K (1974/75$) and rich dude skulled out. There's NO doubt he would have peeled if called. So, in essence, it was 1 game of 9 rocket for 64k.

The most entertaining action i saw was a couple APA-3's (no shit!!) freeze up 10k ea and play an 8-ball race to 20. It took HOURS:), and, the one i coached, prevailed. On at least 2 occasions, perhaps 3, they WHIFFED (thin cuts) shooting the 8. IT WAS EPIC:)

I guess i should clarify. Money won at 1 session or match up. I've heard about one pocket match ups where there was over 100,000 lost. Also the reports of big money bet at flyboy's place in louisiana.

Couple 150K+ scores there....

DETROIT, in the early 70's, was a gold mine, IF, you could play.

i know one player that swung with apprx 250k which was won in a relatively short period of time and HEARD of another, from a reliable source, that walked with MORE...

That's some gambling for sure. With a couple of 3's playing you might as well only use one stripe, one solid, and the 8-ball.

just recently i've gotten to watch some high dollar one pocket. mostly races, in the 10-15 thousand a set range. that just blows me away when i see it. i just started playing pool again about a year and a half ago and i won't bet a dollar water is wet beacuse my game isn't close to good never mind great and to see guys do that is awesome.

I have only played 7 ahead for $5,000, and a bunch of 7 ahead's for $2,500 with the same person! Drugdealers are great action they don't care about the money as much cause they didn't work for it, and they all like acting bigtime!

The most I have seen was Shorty(tom d'alfonso), playing one of the locals for $10,000 a set, and taking all the side action in the room. he and his stakehorse left alot of dough in central FL that night!

Just recently $10,000 per game. Names and spot withheld to protect the innocent.

Saw Jose Parica wipe the floor with Fat Harold for 10K I believe it was. This was in Raleigh a long time ago (92-94). Jose was spotting him the 8 (If memory serves me correctly, maybe more). Seen a few other high 8 and 9K matches etc... But never 100,000K etc... in person.

M-man,
I've seen a race to 20 in 9-ball for $20,000.

A friend has played for $3,000 to $5,000 A GAME in 9-ball, and played several hours for $7,500 a game. Though I did not attend, I was invited, and received hourly updates from one of the principals. A large amount changed hands (but less than the 100K designated by the original poster). No exaggeration, just fact. It's not my place to give names and winnings, but several posters here know of it.

Other than the Detroit action in the old days, I'm not aware of anyone playing anywhere for sums reaching $100K....but I would love to hear about it.

I have seen in person $40K won in one night, playing 9 ball at Shooters,,,,many years ago.
