Bill Stroud's Design Contest - Who'd you choose?

I know I am. I don't always get everything right and after years of hustling pool I can take about anything that comes my way.

Thanks again for all of you that took part in this thread. It was fun.

I voted for Chrisl1802's cue. I really wanted to see this one made and I thought it was totally unique. The winning design would have been my 2nd choice.

Bill,

It was a brilliant way to interest pool enthusiasts in the custom design cue market. Maybe this will motivate them to have their dream cues built.

There were a couple of designs that I would love to have seen built - some that didn't make it into the top 5.

By the way, I already own my dream cue and i play with it every day - an ebony and pink ivory JW.

Chris's is very worthy but I'd have to put a vote in for, Through the Eyes of Galileo. Well thought out and a stunning concept.

That was my choice as well, Chris. I'm in total agreement.....overall it was the only one of the five (imo) where I thought the design elements and "look" had not been done before. That would have been a seriously challenging design to pull off and achieve the look chrisl1802 was after. Maybe we'll see his dream cue come to life one day. Great contest, Bill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I voted for mhaimi.

I thought underclockeds' was to nose heavy - seemed out of balance aesthetically. Get rid of the steel joint or make it a half joint and lighten up the 'points'.

Chrisi1802 had a nice design but it seemed to Lord of the Rings for me. I also thought to much would have to be changed from the original design to actually make the cue.

Dagwoods cue seemed to much like something an airbrush artist would pull off.

And Peter_Gunns was a feather...Not sure what esle to say about that one.

Thats my $.02!

Chris

I won't go into the reasons i did or didn't vote for someone.

On that note, I voted for Chris. While i think it would have been a challenge to put that drawing onto a cue, i would have liked to see what Bill could have done with it.

Congrats mhaimi, I hope you enjoy the cue when it gets done !

I voted for Peter Gunn's feather design. I don't know how many of those axes Mr. Stroud has, but he would have needed them all to pull off that wrap-around design.

I voted for Chris's cue as well. I also liked mhaimi's cue and that would have been my second pick.

I voted for the winning cue......congrats, Email me a $20;)

I must say Underclocked was a toss, I really like that design as well.

The big feather would look great and would tickle me to death to play with it.
( It would look wicked with a silver leafed feather )

As stated above, Dagwoods design would look better airbrushed than cut in with materials, imo.
( A talented airbrush artist could make his design rock )

Thanks, but I\in retrospect, I don't think mine integrated enough into a full cue (too segmented) . If he has another contest, I'm going to revise it so that the entire cue comes together much better and uses more typical materials to cue making. It was too radical.

I voted for Chris... I would have loved to have seen what Bill did with that design. I thought it had the most potential to be a seriously unique looking cue.

In what regards do you think yours would have been the most difficult to make?

Chris

Filigree feather with hundreds tiny silver veins ... size around 60cm isn't complicated to manage in your opinion?

There is answer to KC regarding complicity of his design:

Brian,

Not choosing your cue had nothing to do with the complexity of your design. The feathers cue would be much more difficult to make.

I think the domino idea would make a beautiful and elegant cue if it were redesigned and the "humorous" details were removed.

Sincerely,

Bill Stroud

I'm not suggesting it wouldn't be hard. But any more difficult than the ringwork in mhaimi's? And the degree of difficulty has little relation to the aesthetic nature of the design.

Chris.
