Billiard University (BU) playing-ability-exam scores and ratings

I have recently been setting up and working on the Exam I. It was pretty humbling at first as I thought I had better fundamentals. I just wanted to say thanks, Dr. Dave. Just by repeatedly doing each drill before marking my scores, I am already seeing improvement. A big thank you to Dr. Dave for putting this together. I find it just as fun as playing racks by myself and I've already seen improvement when playing actual matches.
Thank you for the positive feedback. I look forward to seeing your scores and improvement. Please post them (and video if possible) when they are available.

Good luck,
Dave

I'm still here too Dave. Just been very busy, all our leagues started up and I don't have as much down time for the drills. I am confident I can improve them, I'm playing better now than when I first took them.
I look forward to seeing how much you and others can improve your early scores. Please post them when you find time to take the exams again.

I hope your league season goes well,
Dave

For people who plan to post videos of exam runs, I recommend you do not have music playing in the background. Originally, the BU required this to help ensure the run is uninterrupted and unedited. However, it can create Copyright issues with Youtube. For example, the latest Exam II video I uploaded is not currently viewable because Youtube is working out the Copyright issues. It should be viewable again soon, after they add advertising for the companies who own the music Copyrights. It is best to just avoid this in the first place. As long as you stay within the frame of the video during the entire exam session, it should be clear that the video represents a continuous, uninterrupted run.

Good luck on the exams,
Dave

I worked on Exam II about 10 hours this weekend and was only able to increase my Exam II score by 1 point (from 68 to 69)! I guess that must be close to the limit at my current level of ability.

My best totals to date are:

Exam I - 88
Exam II - Masters-level (due to 8' table) - 69

BU Score = 88 + 69 = 157.

I can't imagine doing much better than this on my table, but I certainly plan to continue trying. (My wife thinks I'm obsessed and have pool CPD.)

I would also like to see how well I could do on a 9' table with dedicated practice. I'm sure my score would be lower; although, I would expect to qualify for the Doctorate Exam II, which offers more points (albeit tougher points) than the Masters-level Exam II I'm forced to take on my 8' table. I would also like to see how high of a Masters-level score I can get on a Valley bar box with fast/slick cloth. I'm sure I could get a higher score than on on my 8' table with slow and "sticky" cloth.

Here are the details and scores for all official BU graduates.

Good luck on the exams,
Dave

Wish I knew that earlier today, oh well... I felt better today so I tried the fundamentals again. Still not happy with it. Still making stupid mistakes like missing a ball in the side on the wagon wheel drill.:o But, I did get a higher score than last time.:D I got an 85 on it, so that brings the total to 152. Won't be happy until I get in the 90's at least. If I'm hitting them good, I should be there. Need to get in some practice. Here's the links to the videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kinxws_Qf4Y&feature=youtu.be and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvOobP8OvVs&feature=youtu.be

edit: If you listen close, you can hear a cricket that came in out of the cold last night. Now I have to find out where the little guy got in.

Sorry. I think Youtube eventually allows the videos to be viewed (with ads from the music companies), but sometimes this takes a while to happen.

I'm glad you're feeling better, and I'm glad you still seem motivated to work on and improve your exam scores.

I know you can do better, but that's still a respectable score.

I don't think anyone has gotten a 90 yet. That would be impressive, and I look forward to seeing it.

Unfortunately, part 1 isn't currently viewable, but hopefully that will change. FYI, I've added your new score and video links to the list at the top of the thread, and I will quote it in my next post (... it is too long to include here).

Catch you later,
Dave

I think there are two "levels" of copyright.

1st level: you "acknowledge" you have used copyrighted material. You do this on the upload page somewhere. I've had to do it on each of my videos. Once you "acknowledge" the copyright, the video plays fine.

2nd level: The copyright is completely blocked from playing in certain countries, even if you acknowledge it.

So questions are:
1. Did you do #1 above? If not, try to do it, and then see if it plays.
2. If you did #1 above, I think your only way out of it is to use a video editing program, and turn off the sound track.

For part two, I acknowledged it, and I believe that is viewable. Part one was totally blocked. So, I just put it back on my computer and re-filmed it off of that with no sound from it. Sucked because my stupid camera doesn't even have a way to mute the sound, so I had to try and be as quiet as I could just sitting here for a half hour. Anyways, filming is done, and it's uploading to youtube now. Will be available for viewing tomorrow if all goes well.

I took exam I again today and improved my score considerably from 53 to 71. This was mainly due to stroke improvements I've made that helped me do better on the stop and draw shots, and I knew I underperformed on the pocketing section last time instead of what I knew I was capable of. I hope to take exam II again soon.

Doesn't you tube still have an audio swap feature where they will swap your copyright audio with some random elevator music and process it for you?

I just looked into this. To clear a video that is currently blocked, do the following:
1.) Log in to your Youtube Account.
2.) Go to the Video Manager.
3.) Click on "Edit" for the blocked video.
4.) Click on the "Audio" tab.
5.) Click on "Remove" next to any identified song that is causing you video to be blocked.

I hope that works (for you or anybody else who needs to do this),
Dave

FYI, I just did this for my most recent Exam II video, and it seems to be viewable now (where it wasn't before).

FYI, even if you are faced with "2nd level," you can still make the video viewable by doing the following:

1.) Log in to your Youtube Account.
2.) Go to the Video Manager.
3.) Click on "Edit" for the blocked video.
4.) Click on the "Audio" tab.
5.) Click on "Remove" next to any identified song that is causing you video to be blocked.
6.) Click on "Save"

Regards,
Dave

I took exam I again today and improved my score considerably from 53 to 71. This was mainly due to stroke improvements I've made that helped me do better on the stop and draw shots, and I knew I underperformed on the pocketing section last time instead of what I knew I was capable of. I hope to take exam II again soon.
Good job! I look forward to seeing how much you can improve your Exam II score. It would also be nice if you could post videos. Is that possible?

Dave, here's the link to part one with no sound to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83IWYmnB7yQ&feature=youtu.be This replaces the part one you weren't able to see.
Neil,

I've replaced your original Exam I "part 1 link" with this new one.

Try the procedure I posted this morning on the original video. If it works, post the link for the best version (hopefully the original with most of the audio restored) so I can update the link.

If that is the case, the video should be viewable. Could you post the link again? I can try it and let you know if it works. If it does, I'll also update the link on the BU scores list so people can hear the cricket along with your shooting and occasional commentary.

Catch you later,
Dave
