Just a quick shout out to Dr. Dave and everyone that made the site what it is. I woke up at 4am and fancied some reading. Went onto the site and I've read everything it has to offer. What a site. I learn something new every time I go onto it. If ever you have a problem, stop for a second before asking on here because the answer will be on the website.

So, cheers Doc :-)

I agree...

Dr. Dave's videos are an excellent resource for all levels of play.

He obviously put countless hours of work into the presentation.

The whole thing is quality.

If you read everything there in just 7 hours, you must be some kind of speed reader!

I agree. To read every topic on every FAQ page, to read every instructional article, to watch every one of the online videos (NV, HSV, and others), and to read or watch all of the other stuff on the site (e.g., the resource pages, the online glossary, and all of the Top 100 lists), it would probably take closer to 10,000 hours (a familiar number :grin-square:).

Regardless, thank you to everybody for the kind and supportive words about my site.

Regards,
Dave

To me, the real value of my site is that it doesn't take numerous hours to find the information you want. The FAQ resource page "table of contents" provides a useful road-map to quickly find information throughout the entire site in one convenient, organized, and structured place. In fact, I often use the FAQ page to quickly find information and links for which I or others are trying to find.

Dave

I didn't watch the videos, I'm saving them for another day!

It always amazes me how I manage to learn something new every time I go onto your site. Some of the stuff on there gets very technical and mind boggling but you've presented it in such a way that the likes of my self can understand. Again, thanks very much :-)

Thanks Pidge.

Honestly, I also learn (or remember) something almost every time I visit my site. In fact, that is one reason I created it originally. I wanted to be able to look up and find things as quickly as possible, because it is nearly impossible to remember all of the details and intricacies that make this game so awesome (and humbling).

Catch you later,
Dave

I took a speed reading course and finished War and Peace in 32 minutes.

um....it's about Russia

:embarrassed2:

I greatly appreciate the material and hard work Dr. Dave has put into his site.

Thanks again!

Dr Dave,

At the middle of this page http://billiards.colostate.edu/videos/index.html there is a link to "Great Pool Shots" between Preecher Ron and Scott Frost. When you click on the link it shows a video of a robotic horse. It's not what the link describes obviously.
Thank you for pointing this out.

FYI, I've fixed the link.

BTW, if anybody out there ever spots any errors (even spelling or grammar mistakes) or broken links anywhere on my site, please let me know. It is a big job to maintain such a large site, and there are bound to be errors (probably many) that I haven't found on my own yet.

Thanks,
Dave

I agree, thanks Dr Dave. I purchased many, many DVD and Videos from websites and the only ones I found useful are yours and Tor Lowry's. I really like your BU DVD and the VEPS DVD.

Thanks Tom.

I'm glad you like the BU DVDs. For some reason, they have not been very popular. I think it was mostly a marketing problem on my part. The BU DVDs contain lots of great instructional stuff (especially dealing with fundamentals, aiming, simple kicks and banks, cue ball control, and the break shot, with great drills for everything), but I think people might be turned off by the "university" and "exam" words, and maybe they think all of the good stuff is online for free (which I don't think is the case). I'd be curious to hear what other people think concerning why the BU DVDs have not been popular (compared to all of my other stuff).

Thanks again,
Dave

Good Thread Pidge.

I agree.

The Site is a Treasure Chest of Valuable Information.

:thumbup2: :thumbup2: :thumbup2:

(That's 3 thumbs Up) To Dr. Dave for all of his & his co-harts efforts & investment to create such a site.

Now when is the quick reference pocket book version coming out that can be taken to the pool hall with us. Will it fit on a zip drive?

Best 2 Pidge, Dave, & All,
Rick

From my experience, it is two things.
1. People don't like to be tested to find out just where they really are. They like to think they are better than they really are.
2. Too much like "work". Far too many want to get better, but don't want to do the work involved in getting better.
3. Just thought of a third- some people are embarrassed to let others know how they really play.

Dave, The main thing I like about it is that it gives me a way to gauge my game. I do your fundamentals and skills assessment every week and keep a graph of my progress. I also plot it against my league rating and what amazes me is they are both on the same upward trend. This is very helpful in improving my game.

Thanks Neil. To me those are reasons, why people might not like the BU Exams and the BU diploma process.

I was more curious about the BU instructional DVD series, which contains lots of useful instruction. Maybe people are so turned off by the exams, they might think the DVDs won't be of benefit. The DVDs do use the exam drills as a framework, but the DVDs also contain lots of useful instruction in all of the exam categories that could be helpful even to people who don't like the exam drills, IMO.

If others have feedback or a different take on things, please let me know.

Thanks,
Dave

I think people may not realize there is a different between the DVDs and exam and drills. It may not be clear that the DVDs are actual instructional material instead of the video version of the drills and exam. They may think it's the same thing as your BU youtube videos. I actually didn't know there was a distinction myself until reading this thread.

Also, I want to say how much I like your site. It's an incredible wealth of information. Also, I really like the BU exams and drills. It really got me on the way to making significant improvements in my level of play. I need to run through the exam again and get a new score. Also, that reminds me I need to get back to doing some of the drills. I feel they really sharpen a lot of important aspects of one's game.
