Biloxi Mike Murdered!!!!

Hi,
Mike's brother is going to Biloxi to attend to Mike's affairs, if we
can tell you what is going on we will.
There has been no confirmation that any of Mike's cue's have
been taken, the story is not folding out very well. But no one
at this time has said what he died from.

We are still in shock. We will give you what ever
information we can when we can so the rumours don't get
to crazy.

Mike Surber was a normal guy that was polite, a great golfer
and one of the best pool players he was funny, and very smart
he loved his family and they loved him, he has friends everywhere
he has travelled.

I can't even begin to tell you how much he will be missed.
The last pics I have of him is he is standing on our roof with a
chain saw, lol, he really was the perfect all round guy.

lots of hugs
Clay Alderman and Barb

Mike's AZ name was scenario

Barb:

We're all ears (and eyes) out here. Perhaps when all is said and done, we might want to honor Mike by entering him into the AZB Hall of Fame?

Just a thought,

I spoke with one of Mike's close friends earlier today. I wanted him to come on here and tell what he knows. I will tell you what he told me. Mike was playing at the pool room and this guy (and a friend) were sweating it. Mike was playing for money and flashed a bankroll. After he was finished playing these two guys struck up a conversation with Mike. They wanted to know all about the local casinos and Mike was an expert.

The one guy, who went by the name Jericho, went with Mike to his house so Mike could drop off his cues. Then they were going to go to a casino together. Mike was just being a good guy, helping them out. It seems that the moment Mike opened the back door to go in the guy whacked him in the back of the head, and robbed him. He then took Mike's car back to the poolroom and jumped in his truck (a black Ford F-250) with his buddy, and they high tailed it out of there.

They got a days head start before people realized something was wrong, with Mike's car still in the parking lot. They went to his house and saw him laying on the floor near the back door. Jericho is described as about 40 years old, 6' tall with a pony tail. He is clean cut with a little paunch on him.

Let's all help the police find this guy! He's out there somewhere, maybe in a casino or a poolroom. If I find out any more I'll let you all know. As far as I'm concerned this takes priority over everything else on here.

Thanks for the great info Jay... I hope they find this guy quick and he gets what's coming to him. Pieces of shit like that need to just be thrown off a cliff. He took a man's/husband's/father's/friend's life for a wad of cash... this makes me sick to my stomach.

Mike Surber

I got the opportunity to play Mike Surber in the Banks at DCC 2008. When still at the Executive West. It was one of earlier rounds. We played on one of the main tables downstairs.

I do remember that he had me stuck pretty good and I got kinda lucky to get back in the game and we ended up hill-hill with 4 balls each!

I had a couple of chances that rattled. But Mr. Surber performed like the great player I found out him to be. He beat me and he did quite well in the event that year.

He later made the comment that I was about his toughest game. I am sure I wasn't his toughest opponent - but I got lucky and it became a close match.

Maybe I ever scared him a little! lol

As everyone has mentioned, he was a perfect gentleman! Never complained when I got a little luck (or he got unlucky). I found out he had done quite well in the 1-pocket previous years.

I looked forward to seeing him in the next years event. If more players had his demeanor, the pool world would be a lot better.

A REAL good guy and this makes me just HOT!!!!

RIP. Wish I could have known you better, my friend.

Yep in a few days, there are tons of Mike stories, he ran with some
of the greats Allan Hopkins, Tommy Galley, Weanie Beanie, Albert
Clay, lol, lots of folks, he was in Alantic city as a dealer in the early 80's
then in Vegas for I think 12 years, he often said the mob treated the employess better
then the corporates today, then he went to Biloxi and was working in the Beau Rivage.
There are lots of great Mike stories.

A little more info about "Jericho". Maybe a little older, late 40's or 50'ish. He had a goatee or chin hair. There may be a suspect, who is known in pool circles, but it's a little too early to say yet. I'm still in touch with Mike's buddy Joe Wilkens.

Biloxi Mike

Sad news

Didn't know Mike, but just the fact that people on this forum did makes me very sad...for his family, and everyone that knew him.

I have faith that the criminals responsible will be caught.

Mrs G,

When did he live in Vegas, He looks very familiar to me. I didnt know him. When someone posted a pic with 2 men in it at the beginning of this thread I recognized him right away. This is just aweful, hard to believe. Desperate people do desperaite things. I know he was a gentalman of the first order, He looks way to familiar for me to just have seen him at the Derby-I had to have seen him here in Vegas around 91-93.

thank you,
eric

I feel mad as hell right now, I's big supporter of a eye of a eye. Life in the joint is too easy for who ever did this.

Here's a little more information from the press.

deleted because Gunn_Slinger had already reported this story. I missed her post.

Mike at the table shooting, Cliff looking on, semi finals in 07

We were hit with a small tornado in 06 and Mike and his chainsaw were there to help
I have one of him on the roof but I can't find it, lol

Mike and i talked occasionally since he was from Maryland originally. He was a fine and gentle man who loved playing pool and collecting cues."shorty" will be sorely missed. r.i.p.

Mike was a class act in every sense of the word. I live in Biloxi and would see Mike every week at the pool hall. Even though i`m nobody as far as pool players are concerned (i`m just your average once or twice a week player) he still would say hello and speak to me as well as everybody that played pool no matter what their skill level. He will be greatly missed and i hope they catch the bastard(s) that are responsible for this!!!!!!!!

That's very sad news... Bastards. You wonder why it's so hard to find a trusting human being anymore, because most of us have lost all trust due to all the scumbags running around in the world.

It's especially sad when another one of the nice, trusting people pays for that character trait.

If cues were stolen, here is a list of what he said he had back in Feb 08.

Let me see if I can be of any help - 02-20-2008, 04:41 AM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that I have given it some thought, I do not know if I can help you. I have 7 Scruggs, 6 Joss West, 5 Tads, 4 (1968-72) Joss cues and no Runde cues. So not having any Runde cues I cant give a fair and balanced evaulation

Just another piece of FYI

I called the Sheriff's office to inquire if they had made any arrests and they said they were doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death, so I don't know what to say about the story of him being bashed in the back of the head. BTW, that's the same story I heard. They have no idea when the autopsy results will be in and they indicated that they apparently won't be sharing those results with the public since Mike's death is under investigation.

It wasn't supposed to end this way. Mike was one of my best friends in the pool world, such a great guy. I'm really angry right now. I want to start a reward to help find his killer(s). I'm putting up the first thousand for any information leading to the arrest of his alleged killer.

Heads up to everyone in the Dallas area and all over East Texas. Be on the lookout for someone selling high end cues. Mike had several --- and many other nice cues. Cue information deleted by request. You name it he had one. High alert areas - Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio! Keep your eyes and ears open. This guy is out there and he's on the run.

Look for a black Ford PU, probably a F-250 with Texas plates. This guy is known to frequent casinos, pool rooms and bars. "Jericho" is the name he used. Wears his hair in a pony tail. May be graying and dyed black. Around 50 years old, about six feet tall. Had some facial hair on his chin. Traveling with an accomplice. We can catch this guy. He doesn't have time to check the internet right now. He's trying to hide.

I didn't know Mike, but I don't remember ever being so touched by a story on this forum. To any who knew him, please accept my condolences. What a loss, what a terrible loss.

Sincerely,
Steve
