Black Boar feeler

This Black Boar belongs to a friend who is interested in seeing how this cue fares in today's market. It is a 6 point with old logo. There has been some inlays added by Parrot cues which would be the spears on the points and the mop diamonds on the butt. It has 2 non original shafts made by Parrot Cues as well. The engraving on the stainless joint was also added. All the added inlays were done several years ago. I don't have any specs on the cue as it doesn't belong to me. Your comments are appreciated. Sorry for the bad pics as they do not do this cue justice.

Great looking cue. I do not think I have seen a Black Boar like this style.....didn't read about the added inlays. Maybe that is why it looks so unique. Either way, I like it.

In my opinion, the cue is now worth about 50% of the untouched value. By having someone other than Tony work on this cue, this cue has been devalued greatly.

I'm sure this thread will get pulled anyway... LOL.

devalued black boar

This cue belonged to my best friend who passed away in 2003. He originally only wanted to have it refinished by Tony and have a new shaft made. He tried several times within a years period to get Tony to commit to a refurbishing, but to no avail as I guess Tony was to busy to mess with it. The cue is gorgeous but value deminished by having others work on it. The widow is not selling at this time but was wanting to get a rough idea of the cues dollar value in the event she should decide to sell in the future. Please feel free to price the cue as seen as that was the purpose of posting this article. Thanks Rod

Only my opinion

I don't know why someone would do this to a custom cue but the owner had his reasons and probably enjoyed it.As a Blackboar collector this cue would be worthless to me.Blackboars are known for their play-ability (No shafts) and artistic talent (design is altered).

Value was destroyed with additions. Without them, I would say 3500 ballpark. With the changes, I would say less than half that. JMHO.

It's nice of you do this for your friends widow.
Since this is just a feeler, with all due respect a realistic value would be $1300.
With no custom inlays and with the original Black Boar shafts, $3500.00.
Someone could buy a Black Boar shaft and have a nice cue to play with if they can get past the modifications.

Hi Rod,

Sorry to hear this about your friend.

I would guess at around $1500 to $2000 if I had to take a guess. That's taking into consideration no BB shafts. From what I've seen, most BB collectors are pretty die hard, and they don't like changes, etc.

You never know what the market will do though, it may be possible to find someone who just loves the cues new design and be willing to pay closer to what it is worth.

Just my humble opinion..

Bummer

I just can't understand why people butcher their cues. Why not just sell the cue and buy something more to ones liking jmo

Just a thought...

Why doesn't the OP contact Tony and see if he'd be willing to rebuild the cue with two shafts for her. You never know until you ask...

Neat blank.

I would buy it. I never thought about it or looked but have to ask are they all built like this?

I don't know any 6 point BB selling for 3500!!! There are so few and so few that have the original boars head emblem. Tony does not do that any more!!! It is a super rare cue if untouched.

The tooling to make 6 point cues is much different then 8 point cues. Tony made the switch and indicated he is not changing back. the few 6 pointers are all that will exist from what I heard but he could change his mind.

Given a soft market i would say 7000 if untouched!!! A basic 8 pointer was for sale at omega for 12000 and had NO RECUT POINTS like this one. Those colors are not veneers they are recut points and a TON of work.

Counting recuts it has 12 points more than most 8 pointers done now.

Actually the cue kind of grows on you after you look at it a couple of times.
I'm bumping up my valuation to $1700 as is, and $4200 if original.

I'm sure the cue plays great, but it would be nice to get a Black Boar shaft for it.

If it were one of Tonys newer cues I would agree. The Mataya BB, which was a 6 pointer as well, was being sold for 4500. It was all original, owned, signed and played by one of the all times biggest names in pool. So I stand by my original appraisal, with 2 BB shafts and all original, 3500. And also, if you count recurs, it would be a 9 pointer. Not 12. In its present condition, I would say less than half that. As for the owner, I hope you get the most out of it as you can and things turn around for them.

i saw that listing for the mataya cue and thought it very low and a steal at that price. these are very rare and nothing else out there for price comparison. the nearest other comparable is the 8 point at omega for 12000. you split the difference between 4500 on low end and 12000 on high and get 8250 - 1250 for soft market very close to 7000.

as far as point count it is 12!!! The big point has 1 ebony then 1 bacote then 1 ebony thats 3 in one point times 3 points = 9 plus the 3 stand alone points gives 12.

compromised value

Eight day bump. Probably back to page 30 by now. Deceased owner did not realize the mistake he made. Cue still hits-em pretty sporty. Ivory ferrules and Moori medium tips, although not original shafts. All comments appreciated, good and bad. This is a price feeler.
