Black Boar Question

I'll probably catch a ton of sh!t for saying this but... here goes.

You can't really compare a Black Boar to a PFD on any level except playability. And the ONLY reason you can compare them on that level is because hit and playability are subjective. What one person loves, another might hate.

As far as doing what Tony does inlay-wise, Paul just can't. If he can, he hasn't done it yet to my knowledge.

As far as Tony's cues go, I have zero idea what the resale value is. If you shell out $20k for a Black Boar direct from Tony, chances are you won't be flipping it for an enormous profit because, let's face it... the guys who can afford to pay $20k for a cue will likely give that money to Tony (or some other cuemaker) and get one made specifically for them.

As for Paul Drexler's cues... you could spend $4,500 on that cue in question (though I'm not sure why you'd want to). But I'd guess you won't get $4,500 if you sold it.

Regardless of what you spend, you may take a loss on either cue. You may get your money back. You may make a little more. It all depends on the cue AND the market. I guess the moral of the story is, if you buy a Black Boar, it'll likely be WAY more attractive than a PFD.

Just sayin'.

- B <--------- hasn't seen too many attractive PFD's.

funny to read this thread- completely.

I own an older BB RS 3 and a newer PFD made to my design.
I never played a newer BB- no opportunity for that.

I can state both cues play great, but in a different way.

Are you sure about that?

I think you are doing Paul a disservice by your words... :nono:

Maybe Paul can comment on if HE do this type of work?

These are Tikkler's pics:

I have owned both, and can say Paul's cue played pretty good and I sold it for almost what I paid for it. But when I got ferrule-less shafts for the Black Boar RS3 in my avitar, though, it was like a restomod, hot rod with new components. This cue is not in the same universe as the one pictured (Tikkler's), but it plays really, really well. Also, this cue does not, nor has ever had a buzz anywhere, nor have any of the other bb's I've owned.
:p

Wow,

This Monster Dude Really knows how to set off Napalm in this forum! He doesn't know they are circling the wagons to have him burned at the stake for such blasphemy. Good thing we are not back in mid evil times! They would be sharpening the pitch forks as I type.

I love my Boar!!!

I guess im down on your list but i played with your cue also.I also said to you next to my Lomax your bb cue was the best hitting cue I have ever hit a ball with.
I couldn't put it down once I started playing with it.(and after I got done drooling over the looks of it)
Fatboy took it away from me after a coupe of hours,LOL
I don't know this Tony guy from Adam but I do know he makes an awesome playin cue!! I'm postive his cues will only go up in value. That's all from me,I just had to say how impressed i was of how good that cue plays and looks.Carry on.John B.

your my buddy:D, you can use my cue 8 days a week. Your Lomax is a fine playing cue, it plays every bit as good as my cue with out a second thought. Thats a fact!!

The only problem is I cant make it work as good as you do.:( Looking forwards to seeing you again, I'm fixin on taking a road trip this summer, if i do i'm gonna pop by to see you.

best

eric:smile:

PS: sorry i didnt put your name on the first list, your only the best bank player alive-you should have been first on the list(sorry).

I'm definitely not trying to pick a argument with you .
But, I am pretty sure that their isn't 4-5 cues in the world that are as big as Eric's,Eric P's, and Steve's. Meaning who else consistently buys 20-40k cues from Tony? Maybe Lucky back in the day. But he wasn't paying that kind of money. Like I said, no disrespect to BB they make some of the best cues in the world. It will be interesting to see how it all washes out in the end. Right now they are definitely for the wealthy cue collector. These are just my opinions.
Take care

I play with mine, for me they are my players, i collect Barry/Gus cues. Boars are players. the super fancy one I have I dont play with, i'm saving that for later. I have 2 identical butts(one is 2 grams diferent from the other) so when one is in the shop or God forbid I lose one I have a back-up. I have had other ones but didnt like how they played compared to the one i play with and my back-up.

For anyone who cares, perhaps no one, i'll just say this, i have never used a fancy cue as a player. If I played like Shannon does or Shane or JB I'd use the fanciest cue possible, but I dont, so until my Boar I used plane jane cues for over 20 years. i'm kinda uncomfortable with using a flashy cue. I dont ding cues or worry about that, i just figure since i'm a average player a regular cue is cool. Owning fancy cues is cool, but for a player i perfer a PJ cue. problem is my BB is so good I have to use it, it brings out the best in me, i shot 1000's of shots and took notes, the numbers dont lie, i had higher success %'s using the boar over any other cue's I own. so the cue dont make the player, but it a cue can bring the best out in a player.

I accidentally fell into using a Boar, I'll save that story for another day. I did speak to tony about painting mine black if I go to the PI for a few months someday, I think he has is figured out, we would just buff the black paint off. I mite paint it black anyways, Its too much attention.

Never played with one of his newer cues, but they look great and all I have heard about them are good things. Good luck to you.

One day !

I have never owned a Black Boar Cue before however I was lucky enough to hit with one on 3 or 4 occasions. If I can ever afford one I will have one, and have wanted one since the first night I hit with one.

NOT more PFD's

Kam's Maserati Cue was well over 20K;) and Ken Kerner's Cue was also NOT cheap. Sad we can NOT see all the Beauty's from Tonys Shop:(

No Black Boar is cheap. Does that make them worth what they cost? Not really. Maybe to the owner but that's about it. If you pay $45 grand for a cue direct from Tony, you probably won't see that money again if you were to sell it. Guys who spend $45 grand on a cue spend it with the cuemaker. But... they also tend to hang onto their BBs. Still, that doesn't make them worth the cost.

That being said, guys who spend $45 grand on a Black Boar are envied largely because they can afford to spend $45 grand on a cue, regardless of who made it. Guys who spend $4,500 on a PFD... not so much. Cause they usually spend that money on other cues.

Back in 2005 while at a tournament i met Rico Diks, I saw his cue in his case,I recognized it immediately, I knew it was a black boar.He took it out the case.(Fancy 8 point,Ivory over steel joint) It was incredible to hold it in person, He got that direct from tony, Never got the chance to hit with it though, it was a conversation I will never forget, I will get one some day:smile:
