Bonus Ball and Derby City

Will we see the Bonus Ball guys at Derby City next year?
I think at least one will miss the start of the DCC (the banks) due to BB. Weeks 4 and 5 of Bonus Ball overlap with DCC. BB runs Thursday through Sunday of each week, and each team plays twice each week, so some players may be able to juggle both.

Hope you're well Mark. I also hope to see many marquee names at the Derby next month. I think that there will be sufficient incentive for them to be there given the payouts of the main events and the nice payout (nice by pool standards anyway) of Jay's 10 ball tourney. Also should be action galore.

Not to knock bonus ball or anything, but I hope they all come to Louisville next month.

Cheers,

JL

I was thinking about going to the DCC this year, but now I'm not sure, if i want to do that or go to SBE. Is DCC worth going if a bunch of people will not be there?

I don't understand why Bonus Ball doesn't just skip a few weekend where major events are? Seems like it would be a great opportunity for the players to go out and share the Bonus Ball dream.

+1, right there with you!

BB is for 6 months. They will overlap with many major events. It is what it is. Should they skip every other weekend to accommodate every overlapping event? I don't understand why regular readers here are asking/making the same points about overlapping. The BB staff has made it clear multiple times that any player can skip any week to do something else. They will be replaced by an alternate for that week. This seems an extremely fair way to balance the availability of the pro players so they can play wherever they want.

There have been prior promotors/tours on both the men's and women's sides who have gone as far as suspending players for playing in a competing event. Here, you have the BB staff being extremely accommodating, IMO.

I have no affiliation whatsoever to BB... Just really surprised this issue keeps coming up repeatedly.

This sounds good on paper, but here's the issue. Previously the players had to cover their expenses to get to an event and now they must do that plus their 900+ BB pay. Door number 1, guaranteed. Door number 2, probably cash.

There are multiple events every weekend from all over. No one would even suggest trying to co-ordinate with every event. Major events though could be worked around without any issues.

Turning Stone, SBE & Derby City.

When the industry works together, the players and fans win.

NASCAR is the model. Stock car racing was in the same situation as pool before Bill France organized it. There were 2 or 3 major races on the same weekend, no set rules, no payouts and etc. Bristol had a few bleacher grandstands and look at it today over 150,000 seats.

Ray, you make too much sense. Unfortunately the history of pool is riddled with intentional conflicts and punitive contracts.

Are you sure about Nascar being a good model? You want professional pool to be OWNED by one man (family) and essentially run with an iron fist? You want your pro pool tour owner to hit players that attempt to organize with lifetime bans and threaten them with pistol shootings if that is not enough to discourage them -- it happened in 1961. I wonder how many competitors Bill France squashed on his way to building his personal NASCAR empire, lol. Yes, success has come with the France formula, but the model raises some serious questions for me. I'd rather see an NFL or NBA or MLB model where at least the ownership is spread out and there are strong player unions to provide some balance. I apologize in advance if I have offended NASCAR fans or misspoken any facts.

I think I've finally figured out this whole thing.. bare with me now..

Barry Behrman couldn't pay the players on time, right?

Bonus Ball was postponed, but the players were paid.

Bonus Ball was postponed, so revenue couldn't be generated. So, they needed to get that money from somewhere.

Barry Behrman is the shadow government of pool and had to rob Peter to pay Paul.

Bonus Ball is overlapping the DCC.

Bonus Ball will take players and spectators from the DCC.

Barry Behrman wants the DCC to fail.

The DCC will become.. get this.. the DBB.

Better yet, the BBC. Then he can piggyback off of the popularity of the real BBC.

Either that, or it's time for me to leave work and go home.. :o

you know where the opportunity was? It was having that week's matches at DCC. major exposure, have minis after the week's matches and get as many eyes and hands on their balls, while they've got 100% of attendees interested in pocket billiards.

I am sure that as a businessman, Barry does not want the DCC to fail. he might out of spite, but I don't know the man well enough to say that.

Oh, wait. you make joke.

Bonus Ball
noun

What happens when a man is overly aroused but not allowed to fully ejaculate.

Susie enjoyed her date, but all poor Toby got out of it was a long make out session and a really big bonus ball.

That has to be the best idea I have heard for BB and I can't believe they wouldn't do that! Perfect place to do it, right out in the open so everyone can see, don't charge anything and set up a booth right around the corner with matches on tv, the ball sets and some players talking about what it is and answering questions. It seems very simple and direct and if I go to SBE this year and don't see some kind of BB booth I would be extremely surprised. Where else do you think you would get fans. Good post Black-Balled

DCC is still going to rock no matter what. Lots of players are not a part of Bonus Ball. The action will still be great.

Honestly most of the top players don't gamble much at DCC anyway.

I would go to DCC every year if I could regardless of what else is happening. It's action mecca for a week and the three ring circus spectacular of pool.

See now I thought that the Bonus Ball was when you make out and ejaculate and find that you can go again right away, i.e. you have discovered that you have a bonus ball.

Must be one of those things like when you sing the wrong lyrics all your life.....

Oh hell yes.

Wow. What an opportunity, squandered.

A damned shame.
