I have been filming bonus ball for the last 2 weeks and it's the real deal, for all the people that knock this game go out and play it and tell me you don't like it.

We need to get behind each other in this industry, and not fight and slag each other off, support each other and work together for ONCE!.

This game has had some great matches, with some amazing shot making and the players love the game, the studio is the best ive ever seen and the camera work is top notch, just wait for the promo by runoutmedia, it will be like nothing you ever seen before.

This is going to happen so lets support this game and give us all a chance at finally getting somewhere.

Gonna wait for the knockers, well know who will reply with his 2 cents already but won't name names, got nothing good to say then don't say it.

The league will be starting the first week in November so lets get behind it, great job by everyone this week, we all worked together and are looking forward to the 6 month season.

I try to play the game, and i love it

Anyone want to explain the rules, or give a link. Thanks.

Edit: Nevermind, just watched Archer's video.

I'll give it a try. My initial thoughts are that making a new game is not the answer. 'You can put lipstick on a pig and it's still a pig' seems to apply. I love the game, as do most on here. Selling it to non-players I guess is the question. I am not aware of all the efforts made to promote the game, and get sponsors, but I'll just say this about the Galveston tournament of a few years ago. There was very little advertisement done that would draw fans to it. I saw it on the net, and most people I told about it had never heard anything about it, even though the best players on the planet were there. That may be a bad example, because it was done by what I'll call 'first-timers'. But I think you have to advertise and promote to the general public. The game needs deep pocketed sponsors willing to take a risk, not a new game. But, as I said, I'll keep an open mind, and wish this new venture the best of luck.

I hope it takes off and works very well. Like the poster above I hope they do not make the same mistakes that those in the past (like Galveston) have made. You cannot just pour money into something and expect it to work. You need some intelligent marketing.

If this is going to begin in November why have there been no press releases here on AZB to begin to get us interested? (Have there been?) I have seen no ads here or anywhere else promoting the project. I hope whomever is in charge will not once again ignore the need for marketing. That has always seemed to be the factor that has killed us. I understand that during the heydays of the Camel Tour that you could walk into any poolroom in the towns where the events were held and no one in there would know that the pros were playing a tournament just down the street.

I am very glad the studio is fantastic. If it is RunOut media doing the filming then we know that will be excellent. Now let's hope the promoters will do their job and promote and not just expect folks to somehow hear about them and become fans. Even the most popular of all sports like football, baseball, basketball and Nascar know that they have to keep up the promotions. You can never rest when it comes to the public as they tend to have a very short memory. Send out some press! Get us motivated before it starts! Create a hunger! I don't even think spending a ton of money on ads is required. I see press on this site from folks all the time who do not advertise here. And I read it.

Best of luck to everyone involved.

I can see why you'd like that game, Lee.

Improvements I can think of is that you could have 15 balls worth a single point and several bonus balls of varying points and then you could play on a bigger surface with tighter corners.... :p

But seriously, it does look like a fun game.

I just watcher the video and I didn't completely understand it. Can you run out. or do you just pocket three balls and sit down? How does the score board work, do you need a scorekeeper operating the board?

The first time I saw it I thought it looked a little cheesy, just like power snooker.
However It could be a great game, I don't know.

I think, Barry and the pros are doing a good job promoting it on Facebook.

Glad to see a new game like this one. Perhaps it will generate more interest in cue sports. I like the format and the difference between the game and what we're used to seeing on this side of the pond. With the smaller ball count it can be played on any size table which should help. I'll have to look up the details about the defensive side of the game.
Nice post.

This must be a joke. You get on here and criticize but to the communities defense open communication and information hasn't very forthcoming. And why doesn't Bonus Ball support the others trying to do things in the industry? You are something else..!

If Bonus Ball keeps me informed and cooporates with the others in the industry I will support to the fullest.

I tried the game a couple years ago when they had a demo at the US Open 9ball, I thought it was completely stupid. But that's just my opinion, though I think many will agree.

Now, these guys are going to be paying players... that is awesome. I just wonder how it's gonna work. Aside from being a cheesy and doesn't appeal to the players who ARNT getting paid, I wonder how long they can pay the players as they have said.

Apparently they will be paying the players $1000/week $1000x32 players=$32,000/week. For 6 months! That's roughly $768,000 for the season payed to the players, not including prize funds. Again, don't get me wrong. It's awesome these players are getting paid and I cannot blame them for showing support for something that's gonna pay them.

On top of paying the players, crew costs, studio costs... I just don't understand how they plan on making that work. I've heard one of the plans is to do PPV streaming, but I don't know how they plan on recouping OVER $32,000/week in PPV sales.

Best of luck to all the players involved. I hope you make a score and hope it doesn't turn into another IPT type of situation. I wish they could have invested that kind of money into a fun game like 9ball or 10ball... but whatever. Hope I'm wrong.

cleary,

In all due respect, there has already been plenty of money invested in 9-Ball and 10-Ball, but that fact still hasn't advanced our sport all that much. If we are to ever appeal to the masses - that is, people who do not currently play, but might be enticed to play - then we really must change the game, and change the way it is presented. The people at Bonus Ball think they have the game and the plan that can do that. They also have the money to get it all started. Will they be able to keep it going? They will, as long as their game plan works. But even if they fail, it is their ideas, their efforts, and their money to fail with, so who is to say that they are wrong in trying it their way?

Don't get me wrong; 8-Ball, 9-Ball, 10-Ball, 14.1, and 1-Pocket are all great games and their standing in the pool community is solidified. But it has not always been that way. Each of those games had to be introduced at one time, also. But there is plenty of room for more. Now is as good a time as any to introduce a new game, and from what I've seen, Bonus Ball is a great game to be bringing in.

Lee is right! I was there while they were setting up the arena to film, I went and played too, everyone there played much better than me, but thats not the point , point is it was fun, Larry the top dog(boss) has pumped tons of $$$ into this, I know the figure-its over 7 figures. Its for real and we need to get behind him, it and everything to do with it, if it puts cues in peoples hands we win-all of us.

I find it interesting that it's "our" job to get behind something. As a guy who sells pool, the way I look at it is that it's my job to give people something they like first and get them excited enough about something to support it. If someone doesnt support it they shouldnt get a guilt trip. Pool isnt a charity its a business.

I also find based on history that the group or groups claiming we all need to support something in pool really mean we need to support whatever it is they are involved in at the moment.

I've been to the bonus ball studio and lots of what they have to say sounds good. No one has explained to me how its a viable business yet so I am skeptical how it makes it but I dont think there is any malice on anyones part involved. I think they are just taking a big leap off a cliff and gonna try to learn how to fly on the way down. If they succeed it could be huge but the odds are against them. All I ask everyone talking about "support" is to remember that it is a two way street.

Best of luck to Bonus Ball. If they can make it that means others can make it too. More money and interest in pool is a winner for everyone. Its good to see many different players coming together to try and get something off the ground. They have put serious money into a facility. Hopefully something good comes of it all.

Roy Steffensen has the real rules for "bone us" ball - I found them

I think this is the rules of the game.

The Unofficial Official Rules of Bonus Ball

Permanent Rule: You may not play Bonus Ball the same way twice.

Primary Rule: The following rules are subject to be changed, amended, or deleted by any player(s) involved. These rules are not required, nor necessary to play Bonus Ball.

1.0. The following words in these rules are mostly freely interchangeable, the Primary Rule applies:

§ Can

§ May

§ Must

§ Shall

§ Should

§ Will

§ Would

1.1. All players must wear a Bonus Ball mask (See Bonus Ball Equipment - 2.1). No one may question the masks (Figure 2.1).

1.2 Any player may declare a new rule at any point in the game (Figure 1.2). The player may do this audibly or silently depending on which pocket (Refer to Rule 1.5) the player is aiming at.

1.3. A player may use the Bonus Ball (See Bonus Ball Equipment - 2.2) in any way the player see fits, whether it be to incur injury upon other players or to gain benefits for himself.

1.4. Any penalty legislation may be in the form of pain, embarassment, or any degradation the rulee wishes to execute upon the other player.

1.5 The Bonus Ball Field (See Bonus Ball Equipment - 2.3) should consist of a pooltable, with zones, which are governed by a set of rules declared by players. Zones may appear and disappear as often and wherever the player decides. For example, a corollary zone would enable a player to make a corollary (sub-rule) to any rule already made. Or a pernicious poem place would require the intruder to do what the name implies. Or an opposite zone would enable a player to declare reverse playibility on the others. (Remember, the player would declare this zone oppositely by not declaring it.) (Figure 1.5a and 1.5b)

1.6 Flags (Bonus ball Equipment 2.3) shall be named by players whom shall also assign the power and rules which shall govern that flag (Figure 1.6).

1.7 Songs are an integral part of Bonus Ball and verses must be sung spontaneously through the game when randomly assigned events occur.

1.8 Score may be kept or disregarded, on the official Bonus Ball Score Card. In the event that score is kept, it shall have no bearing on the game nor shall it have any logical consistency to it. (Legal scores include 'Q to 12', 'BW-109 to YU-34, and 'Nosebleed to Pelvic Fracture'.)

I dont think its a "Job" I thinks oits a smart thing to do, Just like the people who have been behind you and done their part. You have done a lot for pool alone and with the support of others. same thing for Larry.

Pool fans IMO should give support to people who are trying to make something of cue sports. Thats not a "Job", a Job is work and is due compensation.

With respect,

Eric:smile:
