I just finished reading Grady's book and thought I'd share my opinion.

First of all, I love reading books about pool. Also, I love adult entertainment:thumbup: This book gave me a chance to enjoy both at the same time. That's right, Grady's book is not for children.

Grady's book recounts a man's life story in more detail than I've ever thought possible. It starts off with Grady as a young man in San Francisco and recounts every memorable story from the road until the book was written. He goes into great detail describing the circumstances of the bets and his opponents, as well as the women he met along the way. While reading this book I laughed, cringed, and shook my head more times than I can count!:D I enjoyed every minute of this book.

It's no secret that I am a fan of Grady's, but this book review is being written as a fan of pool and gambling. Also, I believe many interesting threads could be started about some of the content. Go check it out!

As much as I like Grady's pool playing and his great videos, I have to draw the line at his book. Well at least half of the book. His stories are great and his writing ablility would be even better if he had let an average editor proof it prior to publication...

But the x-rated subject material was way too much... I mean... Grady isn't ugly...but the visuals just made me kringe....

I remember one of grady's women... She called herself sister sledge because she thought she had a powerful break..
She was very entertaining..=)

I read that book in 1 sitting - I couldn't put it down. That's a documentary of REAL pool. Big bets, getting women to come back to the pad, drugs, pills, etc.

Grady's and Buddy's books are two of the only pool books I have not read. They are hard to come by and expensive when you do find them. What a great Christmas present they would be!

IIRC, the book was self-published, and if so, there may not have been a professional editor available.

Yes it was 'self' published and I got a copy from Grady when he was selling them ($15) at the US Open in 2001(?). IMO, He really needed an editor.

rossaroni...Unless I'm mistaken, Grady's book is neither hard to come by, nor expensive. I suggest you PM him, and buy a copy. Buddy's book is another story.

I bought a couple of copies from Grady at the US Open...2001 is the correct year. I gave them out to friends of mine that I knew loved Grady's wit...he penned personalized greetings on them. Like spiderweb, I couldn't put it down.

Got mine for the same price, from Grady after a group lesson at his home.

I'm not a prude, but I found Grady's lothario stories a bit cringe-inducing, or more than a bit. I can't speed read, but I set the Evelyn Wood memorial record when those sections came up. Overall a disappointment.

But let me light a candle rather than curse the darkness. Freddy the Beard's Gospool is a delight and Danny D's Road Player (written by Jerry Forsyth) tells a great life story. And my favorite of all time is McGoorty by Robert Byrne. You can't go wrong with any of these three.

Book critic #3

Having known them both quite well, I offer the following observations on both their books, (which I have, and have read)
Grady's book is a diatribe that tends to bring out Grady's love for pool and action, and his obsession for women (sex) in more detail than I really wanted.
Buddy and Woody's collaberation tends show Buddy's love for pool and action, and much more bible thumping than I really cared for.
For a pool buff, they are both great reads. However, once you've read them, you will never see either man in the same light again. JMHO.

My guess would be that Grady can see a "$25 sell" coming better than most. :)

He had five books left (that he was carrying at the time) and offered all 5 for $50... I told him I only had $15.. so I got one.

I bought my copy in 2001 straight from Grady and he gave me a "Special Price" of $25.

I'm going to get some "White Out" for the dirty parts.

There's also an excellent book about Cornbread Red out there somewhere.

I borrowed it from a friend years ago, and don't remember the title, but if you can find it, it's a good read.
