Brandon Shuff

Shuffy!

It has been my pleasure to call Brandon the VA State 9 Ball Champion for 2 years now. But the greater pleasure for me is to call him my friend for years before that. When I was out trying to get the State Championship on the map as the showcase of talented poolplayers in Virginia, Brandon was one of the first I met on the road promoting. He was always polite, showed interest and was willing to help. He would come to the event every year and say "I am gonna win this year". He didn't always make good on his promise but was always of good cheer and was complimentary of the event. It's funny when I think about it now. The last 2 years he came to town quietly and say "I am just here to play and hopefully do well." Those were the years he played, won and defended his title.

Can't wait to see what this year's championship will hold for Brandon and us all.

Good chatting with you the other night, Shuffy! Let me know if you are back in Richmond any time soon.

I'm proud to call Brandon a friend. Thought I might share a story. Brandon and I traveled to the Planet Pool US Open Warm Up event one year and we both were eliminated before Sunday. We decided to head to DC where a new pool hall had just opened and they were having a 1p tournament. We go to the tournament expecting to rob it but a couple really good 1p players showed up. I played Bus Driver Ronnie in the first round and he beat me. Brandon went on to play Bus Driver in the finals and when I say he didn't know a thing about moving, it's true. Neither of us did. But he could always shoot straight and was a fast learner. During the match you saw Brandon change from a shooter to a strategist. I believe that his 1p game jumped two to three balls through the course of that one match. Anyway, he tortured Bus Driver and won the tournament. Little did we know at the time, but the late, great Strawberry Brooks had strolled into the pool hall and watched the finals. Some woman was filming a documentary on Strawberry's life and they actual filmed that final match. I don't think Brandon was ever able to get a copy of the match, but he played so well. Anyway, Strawberry comes up to us after the tournament and proceeds to tell Brandon how he's a good shooter but doesn't know anything about 1p. Brandon, humble as ever, was like a little kid in a candy store asking Strawberry for advice about the game. Strawberry probably spent an hour or so with us and showed us all kinds of 1p shots. At the time I figured Brandon and I played close to even 1p. After that day, Brandon probably could have given me 9-7 at least. He absorbed all the knowledge that Strawberry had to give and immediately started applying it. I'm happy to have shared that memory with him and to have been in the presence of a legend and a future legend. Brandon, keep hitting em straight and as hard as it gets grinding it out, don't sacrifice your character and never give up.

I ve knowen brandon now for a few years,i knew after the first time i have played him he was going to be a top player, well this year we rode together to dcc,the weather was bad so it was a long trip 12hours or more, you can learn a lot about a man in a 12hour car trip, what i learned about this young and up coming great pool player was that,he doesnt care who he plays,he thinks he is going to win,and he knows he is going to be the best pool player in the world one day,so i really think he is going to step it up now, this young man has all the confidence in the world and to go with his giant heart,he will be on that mosconi cup team one day you can bet on that!and also he is a true pool player for life,he is grinding out a living playing pool today,i just hope he makes it big one day, because the boy really has the talent! plus one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, clean cut,no drugs and very respectable to others!good luck brandon i know you will be a champion many times over in your life your friend, richie adams.

Sounds like Brandon already has what some other poolplayers need, Character!

"one pocket is an epidemic and there ain't no cure"
to this day I still love to reflect on that wonderful experience you and I had. Strawberry was all about spreading his years of knowledge to the young guns you and I. And your right, I transformed into a superior strategist of the game almost overnight it seemed lol. I'm thankful to say that I had the pleasures of hangin w the late great Strawberry Brooks quite a few times.

Thanks for all kind words buddy. Hope your doin well down there. I'll be in contact with you. Keep playin hard!

Shuff enuff!
I'm always glad to see Brandon at any event I'm working. He shows up at the players meeting, pays attention, checks the board and makes it on time for his matches. He plays hard but fair, and never forgets to congratulate his opponent after the match, win or lose. Never complains, just goes about his business taking names and kicking ass. The man can play too. No underdog against anyone!

Brandon is a great guy. Even though I'm not on the pool radar, he always says hi and is cordial with everyone. He certainly doesn't have to be that way, but I really appreciated that. I wish him the best of luck (except when he plays me!)

Brandon Shuff, guys yall remember that name cause yall will be seeing it alot in the pool world. I meet brandon through big truck about a year ago and i really enjoy sponsing this young man. He is all action when it comes to the game, and then away from the table he is a good friend. So Brandon kept that big heart in the game and dont give up u will be up there with all the great players. Youe friend Keith.

This is really cool Brandon

Geesh buddy...Enjoy this thread.. Print it out and put it in your scrapbook old buddy. Refer back to it from time to time :) Known Brandon (Like JAM) since he was a pup playin Sunday afternoon $5 tournaments in Hagerstown MD. He might not remember but he may have been playing me in 1 of his first ever 1 pocket games on table 1 at HT Billiards years ago. We have been blessed to have had 2 current top pros have roots at that now closed room. Mike Davis spent countless hours on that tight table 1. Saw Brandon a few months back in Frederick MD. Still the same gracious young feller he always was but noticably more confident. Likewise had a chance to speak with Mike breifly at Valley Forge the other day. I live vicariously through them now!! LOL... Soak it up gentlemen. You both earned any & all praise you recieve.

What few people remember about that tournament is that Brandon's first round match was such a dominating performance that his opponent actually swore off one-pocket for years afterward.

Well, okay, it was only maybe the 3rd one-pocket match I ever played, but I did find out that day that it was NOT my game. I looked up Brandon Shuff when I got home, and felt a little bit better to find out the guy who beat me so badly was a player with a known name.
