Anyone heard of intentionally breaking a certain part of your wrist so that you can have a straighter stroke? I would think that taping up the wrist area would make more sense...LOL...heard this from an old road player.

Anyway, I figure in Karate...my sensei told me he used to burn his knuckle to kill the nerve so that he can punch harder and not feel any pain.

I figure there might be some truth to his tales. I don't think I would go to that extreme...but I imagine some might have tried this.

Lol that's crazy. Why resort to that much trouble just to improve your stroke? I would think hours upon hours of table time would be more sufficient for your stroke. I've learned that there are no shortcuts to anything you want to be good at.

I think you know some uhhhh, what's the word, interesting people

Why am I the Colonel? Because I always get the chicken

I guess that some of the sacrifice he had to make to be a world champion.

Maybe it worked for him but I've never heard of a World Champion pool player breaking any part of his body on PURPOSE to give him an advantage.

I guess that was my whole point...does something like that even exist? The closes I've seen was Earl Strickland strapping weight on his arms...not sure if it's to keep him more stable.

Well...I guess...there not enough money in this game for someone to go to that extreme...heck professional players in a lot of professional sports/game ect..take steroid and performance enhancement drugs that is detrimental to their health and life but yet they do it. You would think that would also be the case...if this tales was true but good thing...there's no money in pool now. LOL.

world champion or not, if you break a bone to fix your stroke in pool ur a retard, to do what? get a pay cut. its silly.

I agree that's retarded and doesn't make sense. Even if you burn your external skin there are still nerves, joints, etc that would still have active nerves and feel pain.

Yeah...to us it may be retarded...but it's his life and his passion.

Many Men have sacrifice more in their life in the pursuit of their goal and happiness.

I wouldn't be too quick to judge anyone.

I don't know about a wrist, but only after getting his thumb broke did Fast Eddy beat Fats:)

we weren't put on this planet to play pool (according to the majority of humans)

The wrist motion is very important....pre setting the wrist/arm/shoulder correctly is what seperates the great players from the advanced ones.

Pool's not a "natural game," we weren't put on this planet to play pool (according to the majority of humans) - so "if it feels right it's probably wrong" in pool, that's the rule of thumb.

I might as well break it. I've almost broke my hand hitting a wall
after missing a shot. I should have felt the wall first to rule out the studs so I would
of got a soft spot:)

You'd have to remove a large section of Earl's
frontal lobe to even begin to stabilize him.

Anyone else hear the story of a pitcher having one of his fingers amputated so he could throw a certain pitch to Babe Ruth? No idea if it's true.
