BREAKING NEWS: Francisco Bustamante Inducted in BCA Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Francisco!!! Well deserved!!!

I saw that Ralf Souquet and Jose Parica was close too, and I sure hope they get in sooner than later!

He has been one of the best players for a long time, but this kind of came as a little surprise. I thought Parcia would have gotten the nod before Busty, just because of his age, and the fact that he lead 'the invasion'. Both are better players then their 'major' tournament wins show, and that is a major factor at what the BCA looks at. Maybe the BCA is trying to change that, and that maybe be a good thing for certain players. Congrats to Busty-he deservesd it!:)

Django, ALL THE WAY!

Heck, yeah!
:clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping:

I'll bet his winning the 2010 World Pool Championship this year might have been timely for him being inducted this year. ;)

Picture taken right before Bustamante won $25,000-added Joss Tour Turning Stone tournament in 2005. :)

You know, I'm sitting home reading this ,and I can't be happier to see that one of the all time great champions finally got the recogniton he deserves more then MANY other players out there.

I chatted with Fransisco a few years back and it was like talking with your life long buddy. I am joe no one, but that didn't matter.....we had a few similar interests and that is all it took.

to shed the "best without a world title" thing makes me happy for him.....

way to go Django...

G.

I've never met him, but he seems like a nice guy, and a good personality for the game. Congrats to him.

Francisco, a great guy and a great player, gets a well deserved induction into the Hall of Fame. Congrats Busti !!!

Francisco and Jose are my favorite players from the Philippines. Great as it is to hear Francisco's induction. What's the story behind the scene with Jose? Did he fail to contribute to somebody's favorite charity?

Congratulations for Francisco's induction he is an exciting player.

Congrats to Busty! I'm happy for him!

However, I also have to say that I am extremely disappointed in the voting committee that Parica was not inducted. In my opinion, and many others, he was the best player of his generation. Bar none. But, just because he didn't win a world title, he is not in. That's B.S. He has many, many titles, and everyone knows that many of those wins of his had the same players as the world championships, just a different name on the tournament. For the cash, no one, not even Efren, wanted a piece of him. He deserves to be in, and this was his last year to be eligible under the greatest player category.:(

"According to BCA Hall of Fame voting rules, this was the last year of eligibility for Parica and Jim Mataya in the Greatest Players category. Both individuals will be past the age of 60 in 2011, which means the Veterans Committee will consider them for possible induction in future years.

To be eligible for consideration in the Greatest Player category, a player a) must be 40 years old by Jan. 1 of the year of their induction; b) must have a professional playing career of at least 10 years; and c) must have recorded significant achievements in U.S.-based events."

If you read the article on the Main Page, Roy, it explains why: According to BCA Hall of Fame voting rules, this was the last year of eligibility for Parica and Jim Mataya in the Greatest Players category. Both individuals will be past the age of 60 in 2011, which means the Veterans Committee will consider them for possible induction in future years.

I never even heard of a so-called "Veterans Committee" at the BCA.

It seems like each year, they make up the rules as they go along. One year, they induct two players, another year they induct three players, another year they induct one player. Sheesh!

Is there an echo in this thread? ;):p:):grin-square:

A well deserved accolade for a great great player. His break still amazes me to this day when he is on song and hitting them sweet

I think Francisco is my very favorite active player. This is well deserved, imo. The guy is a power-house.

My heart is a little heavy for Parica - he should be in by now 10000%.

I think many people feel the same way, Dave.

On a good note, though, Jose Parica was inducted into the One-Pocket Hall of Fame earlier this year, which is noteworthy. Jose is a proud man, and I know he appreciated that very much. :smiling-heart:

The BCA Hall of Fame selection process for the Hall of Fame is a political machine. There is no way to know what goes on behind the curtain. Sure, BCA-selected people, the majority consisting of industry members, can submit their votes. If the same names were submitted for a popular vote in the pool public, I am almost positive the outcome would be quite different.

Though I am happy as can be that Bustie got the nod this year, there are many pool greats that have been ignored and forgotten by the BCA, but, hey, that's pool politics for you. :(
