I think post count counts for something. At the very least it's a indication of how involved someone is in the forum and how faimilar other forum members are with them (ie how much of a stranger are they). Forums aren't too different than any other way of interacting. Regulars can take more liberties than newbies. That holds true for just about everything.HouseMan said:I was just trying to save you from some future embarassment if you planned to use that tactic again.
Oh well, I tried.

I'm a regular where I shoot. When I want a coke, I walk behind the counter and grab one. I can do this because the owner knows me (ie it's something I've earnt). Now if I was new to his establishment, I'm sure he'd be like what the heck are you doing behind my counter.
No, and that's the problem. You can only take liberties with ppl that know you and are familiar with you. If you don't post no one knows you, and if no one knows you, it's hard to take liberties (becuase the reaction wll be, who the heck is this guy?). Looks like a newbie, smells like a newbie, must be a newbie. It's a perception thing. Having said that, I'm a newbieHouseMan said:I'd probably look at their join date before post count. There are a lot of posters that do the "nice cue, wish i had the money" post a hundred times a month just to get their post count up. I've been around here lurking and posting for close to three years now and have seen many people come and go. Could you tell that from my post count?

dave sutton said:you both are right. i think looking at greenies is the best. the more respected members give a bigger total of points when rep is given.
it would take 1000 "newbie" reps to get me where 500 "respected member" reps might get me
atleast i think thats how it works![]()

Bamacues said:I don't mean this as a knock, so please don't take it that way. I am a regular at a couple of places...I also operated a pro-shop in one of them for several years until I retired. Believe me, everyone knows me in these places. Personally, I would NEVER go behind the owner's counter unless he/she asked me to. I respect their area and it is not appropriate for me to do that, IMO.

What new job are you referring too???brianna187 said:Craig we saw you the other night at the new pool hall. Sorry we didn't stop. I'll catch you soon, I promise. I'm looking forward to hashing over old times.
Your friend, "The Gimp"
Oh, P.S. Congratulations on your new job.
I agree that there are newbs on here that have been on for less then 6 months and have alot of post, alot of post can equal alot of rep.I like to get rep when i help someone out or post something pertinent but i do look at peoples join dates and pertinent post.I have been on for over 2 years as a member and around 3 if you count lurking, this forum is great and i enjoy the contributers to the sight. Its tough to get sponsors for billiards especially sites so i think Briana gets a pass,he has already stated he will post similar items like his cases in one thread so thats cool with me.HouseMan said:There are a lot of new people here. Some with post counts in over 1000, so that's why I would not focus on pcount. I know who the good guys are only because I've been here and seen the good, bad and the ugly. Most of the good people,(not all) have been here since or prior to 2004. Crappy people don't usually don't stay for long. I look at longevity and of course content first. Greenies are not that bad of a measure I guess. Unless you have ten accounts and "do" yourself all night long.![]()
