Brickyard Billiards in Indianapolis.....Bar Table 9 ball Classic

Updates

Can someone please update today with a list of the players in this event. I know last year's event was well updated regularly. I would have liked to go but The Break is closer and I could not make it to Indy for this one. The Indy event I went to last year was great and there was a TON of action.

I updated it last year and put up pics, but couldn't get staked this year so I'm not going.

Full field , Brian got an amazing 12,500 in the 1st calcutta! Next calcutta is tomorrow when they get down to the final 16 players.
Many strong players there. I did not play and come home tonight, but the place was packed and funds were a flying!

So the house got their added money back on the Calcutta alone - nice for the house.

Does everyone PEEL from the Calcutta?

I guess you Cannot call it an added event if the players are adding the money via a peel from the auction.

HOW MUCH DID THE BLIND BIDS GO FOR??

Anyone know???:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Added money is added money.

If Tommy and Bill choose to take their rake from the calcutta and not keep it, rather put it into the tournament, than it is money which would have not been there had they not added it.

Any chance of results being posted?

Sure plenty of people would be interested in who won.

I would have went for Groce? But I bet he went for quite a penny in the auction.

The wild bid in the 1st calcutta went for $1300 or $1350 and they took Hennessee. There was about $3400 in the 2nd calcutta but I cant remember all the payouts, 1st was $1550 I think then maybe $900. The 2nd calcutta paid 4 spots.

1st Billy Young
2nd Brian Gregg
3rd Tommy D
4th Brian Groce?

The next tournament should be sometime in October if its the same as last year.

0$ was added to that tournament by the house

People were talking about this there and you can look at it several ways. The entry fee was $75 and basically $25 came out per player for a 2 day green fee I guess, which is 1600 and they put $1500 back into the tournament. It might help in the future to make it more clear on the flyer's, not just this tournament but for any in general. You can also look at it if there were only 32 players and $800 was taken out then $700 would have been added to it. Im not exactly sure about the money taken out of the calcutta's.

I don't think this is right

There was a limit of 64. 64 players at $75 each=$4800... there was $4700 paid back from the tourney. NO money taken from the entry fee's... As long as I can remember, every calcutta I have been a part of, has taken some cut, usually 10%.. The pool room, DID NOT charge quarters or a green fee for this event. They added $1500, and took approximately $1400 out of the calcutta. This is a great tourney, and Mac always runs a smooth tourney. It has a great payout, and there is always action available. I can assure you, everything about this tourney is on the up and up. The money the pool room made, is from renting the 9 footers during the day, and the food/drinks served. Plus, unlike most places where they have you trapped and waiting, the matches are on a time schedule, so you can leave for a little while if you like. And they don't raise prices on stuff to gouge the players.

The Calcutta was amazing. Around $14,000 for a 64 player field. That averages out to over $200 per player. As far as the house taking 10%, I had no problem with that. $75 to play including green fees in a tournament with players to this caliber was cheap.

This was a great tournament. I really enjoyed palying in it. Mac runs as good a tournament as anybody. I was one match out of making to the money and drew Hennessee. I don't feel bad. Lost to him and Young, the top two picks in the Calcutta.

It was also cool to meet up with several guys from AZ.

Thanks to the owners of Brickyard Billiards, Mac Ashby and everybody else who helped to put on a first class event. I will definitely try and make the next one.

Mac Ashby runs this well. Not throwing rocks at anyone but I think the guys at DCC would be well served to sit down with Mac and discuss how they can improve. I never heard one thing bad about Mac's handling of tournament, and I heard alot of grumbling each year at DCC. Again not throwing rocks, and I know DCC is a big nut to crack. But WE need to live and learn.

Brian Groce is a character running the calcutta.

Food was great, action going on, great time for all.

Thanks for all who made it happen.

Sam,

As pointed out by Stake Horse they did take out $1600 (64 x 25 greens fee). You had $4800 taken in minus $1600 (greens) plus $1500 added gives you the $4700 in tourney payouts.

Is the $1500 really added money? Depends on who you ask. You could say they deserve the greens fee or you could say they charged the players $100 to play the tourney (4800 in only 4700 out).

The calucutta is whole different issue. If you get a great auctioneer who generates extra cash it is probably worth paying (peeling) the 10% in my mind. Sounds like Brian did a great job from all accounts so he (or they) earned the money.

Good field, good numbers so everyone is probably happy either way. What would people be doing if they didn't have this tourney?

The terms "added " or "guaranteed" money have always been subject for discussion in the pool world. Feel free to check with Grady

Thanks for catching my mistake Duane.........
I forgot to add the added money in. It's still a great payout for a weekend tourney. They have other expenses too. I am sure they pay Mac, and he has a great mailing list that he mails out, which I assume they paid that. I'll bet they paid Brian something for his working the calcutta, and whatever it was, he's worth it. Look what he gets out of a 64 player field...I've driven 5 or 6 hours to tournies with 128 players, that didn't get close to this payback for a weekend tourney.

Added money or no added money.....

This is one of the best run events in the country. Always has been, always will be. If a player thinks they got shafted at this tournament, they need to quit playing pool. Mac ran a great tournament, Brian a great calcutta. I won't say that everything was perfect, but you don't find perfect every day. Troy and I get to play in only a couple of events a year and we try to always make this one.

Action, yes. Great calcutta, yes. Nice payout for a $75 tournament, hell yeah. AND - the winners were paid cash on the spot. Nuff said.
