Brunswick Superspeed Cushion Speed?

I installed new Brunswick Superspeed Cushions on my GC III, issue is it seems to play slower compared to other GC's I have played on. I checked everything else; nose height is at 1 7/16 all the way around, rail bolts are tight, rail cloth is tight, cushions are well glued to subrail. Cloth installed is Simonis 860 Tour Blue which is well stretched and always clean, I am also using Centennial balls.
I can't seem to figure out anything else. The cue ball just barely makes it to the 4th rail with a firm stroke from the foot spot. I know it is still within standards of the minimum travel of 4 to 4 ½ lengths of the table without jumping. I checked the cushion speed in our local poolrooms, Diamond Pros and GC tables and with the same stroke the cue ball makes it down to the 5th rail. Now, I am thinking I should have spent an extra $200 and purchased Artemis cushions. Any thoughts from the experts on this?

Forgot to add, old cushions I removed were the older embossed Brunswick Superspeed cushions, I replaced them since they were already dry rotted.

I'm guessing you got some rubber that was stored in an uncontrolled area for a long time before it was delivered.
I know of a local pool hall who had GC IV's. After barely two years, Superspeed became superthud.

You maybe right, climate here in VA changes so drastically and who knows how long these cushions have been on the shelf. Thanks for the reply!

You did everything right, so when you can't explain something, look for the unexplainable for your answer. The only variable you have....is the cushions;)

The Brunswick SuperSpeeds are too inconsistent right from the box. I love the Diamond Black cushions. They are k55 profile and make a table play ohhh soo nicccce!

In addition, Diamond cushions cost less than the Superspeeds. Dang, I didn't do enough research, all that work for this. I guess I am stuck with the Superslows until I am ready to re-cloth the table. Thanks to all.

I've also stopped using suoerspeed for the issues you mentioned above. I have gone to the Diamond black rubber that Pat refereed to with much better results. The top and bottom edges of the superspeed cushions have been very ragged and uneven making installation a nightmare. The Diamond cushions are perfectly finished and they're less expensive also.

For me it's a no brainer... No superspeed!

I agree. In the past week ive done two sets of superspeeds on a GC1 and GC2 and the cushions were very ragged canvas was overflowing everywhere. Had to do alot of trimming and sanding along the top of the rail. And i did a set of Tour Edition K66 on a Vitale and the Tour E.'s were so much nicer to work with and cleaner. Do the K55's have the canvas control strip on top or not like the new k66's and do the Diamond cushions have the control strip or not?

Will I be able to get away with replacing the cushion by unstapling the rail cloth from the subrail while leaving the rail cloth secured by the featherstrip?

No, you would need to replace the rail cloth. You would have to buy 1 yard of Simonis.

Replaced Superspeeds with Diamond Black

Just replaced my Slowspeed cushions with Diamond Black. Table now plays the way it should. I can get as much as 4 1/2 to 5 cushions striking the cue ball straight up and down. If I just had enough room around the table to not have to use a 50 inch troubleshooter I would have the perfect practice room. Man...just can't have everything.

Glad to find that out for free!

What does a set of Diamond black cushions go for and do they sell them for a ten foot table ?

7,8, & 9ft's only, as Diamond don't build 10fts...they have no need for 10ft cushions:smile:
